Which zip colour for this dress (pictures)

Got a lovely new dress which is not particularly well designed in practical terms and is very hard to pull off once on, so I want to add a zip because otherwise I know it will end up ripping when I'm taking it off.

I have two zip options - pictured. Which one is better? I'm going for a fairly obvious zip look. Can't decide between red on white or white on red.

White tape red zip

growandhope · 22/06/2022 23:16

red one and fair play to you for being a zip in at all, much admiration, wish I could do that.

TheElderleyBrothers · 22/06/2022 23:39

Am I the first to swoon over your very impressive solution to the problem. Impressed whichever u use. Star

Bimblybomeyelash · 22/06/2022 23:45

I’m sure that either would look fab. The dress looks lovely. I’m impressed that it’s from Tesco and double
impressed that you are altering.it with apparent ease.

Tadaaaaaaaaa · 22/06/2022 23:47

Definitely red with white zip

Verite1 · 23/06/2022 00:02

White tape, red zip

Anothernamechange3 · 23/06/2022 00:08

How much of the tape will be showing? If you’re sewing the zip onto the outside of the dress I think white tape red zip, because the width of the tape is similar to the white stripes on the dress. If not though, and you’re turning over the hem of the cut you’ll make in the dress and sewing it like that on top of the zip with less or barely any tape showing I’d go red tape.

Anothernamechange3 · 23/06/2022 00:10

Actually ignore my last comment it would look shit if you sewed it on the outside but I’ve changed my mind and even doing it ‘properly’ I’d go white tape

hedwigismyowl · 23/06/2022 00:23

White tape red zip

waltzingparrot · 23/06/2022 01:02

I make that
13 for the white zip and 12 for the red one.

Has that helped you decide OP? 😁

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 23/06/2022 06:37

Ha! Not really. I will ponder and if I do it well enough I'll post the result 😬😂

See it well enough I mean - not ponder well enough.

@BewareTheBeardedDragon When you critique your efforts remember that loads of us wouldn’t attempt it all.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 23/06/2022 06:45

Red tape, white zip

Oomph · 23/06/2022 06:50

White tape. Red would be garish

mewkins · 23/06/2022 06:56

Red tape

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 23/06/2022 06:57

White tape red zip. At a distance the red tape looks better but when you zoom in it’s not the same red and doesn’t work.

OldTinHat · 23/06/2022 07:05

Red tape, white zip.

Red tape, white zip

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 23/06/2022 07:36

I meant sew in my last post obv...

Just examined both options carefully. The red isn't quite the same, but the white tape is actually cream and also not quite the same. Having said that I'm not great at keeping whites white so maybe the dress will end up more cream anyway 👀

White tape, red zip

The white teeth of the other zip would presumably stay a very bright white if the white in the dress pattern went more cream with age, so would end up not looking as good.

Very impressed that you're making the alteration at all, though!

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 23/06/2022 12:36

Done it! I chose red tape in the end because when I tried the cream tape properly it looked grubby next to the current white of the dress. I'll take my chances of the white zip ending up brighter than the dress 🤞😀

Next to see if I can add pockets. It's a lovely design but fairly cheapo crappy loose weave cheesecloth type fabric, so cutting into it is risky and much reinforcement is needed but pockets make life so much better.
