Cream for hard skin on feet

I'm approaching 40 and the skin on my feet (particularly heels) has turned increasingly thick and looks like a layer of yellow acrylic 😷 My DM has feet exactly the same and gets them 'shaved' every three months at a place but the build up happens again very quickly.
I've started soaking them weekly and attacking the hard skin with a file thing, which helps, but within a day the skin is coarse again and builds up quite quickly. I moisture my feet and put on socks which helps but is not a solution by any means.

People used to recommend creams that podiatrists use, but I can't remember the name of it. Anyone? My feet are healthy with no cracks or anything so I'd rather just treat it at home.

I use CCS heel repair cream. Works for me together with soaking and filing regularly. Boots sell it.

Joyfulflowers · 22/06/2022 11:46

If you have time, do a foot soak with Epsom salts (or any bath salts) and use a foot file regularly

CCS cream is very good as is Body Shop Hemp foot cream - this is my favourite and try to put on several times a week before bed

Palmers foot magic. Apply after filing, poo on some socks and leave it to do it’s thing. It really is magic!

Joyfulflowers · 22/06/2022 11:48

Just re read your post and you do already soak your

EBearhug · 22/06/2022 11:48

Flexitol or any similar product containing urea (said my diabetic nurse last week.) The Boots equivalent is just called "hard skin and callus reducing cream," and I would assume most pharmacies will have similar products.

MrJi · 22/06/2022 11:49

I like the This Works foot cream.

BruceAndNosh · 22/06/2022 11:49

Flexitol or any other cream containing urea.
Might not be life changing but it is foot changing!

Poo on some socks?? A novel approach

Soap and Glory foot file after a good half an hour foot soak.

Poo? I think you got confused, it's pee (urea) that dry skin needs. 😆

Sorry posted too soon!

Check out Footlogix, my beautician uses this range and have bought one of them for dh (can't remember which) and they seem very effective.

Mufflette · 22/06/2022 11:57

Yes to the urea stuff - I like the Eucerin one.

Oops! 😆 Pop on some socks! Pop!

Please don’t poo on your socks, that won’t help.

Yarnasaurus · 22/06/2022 12:17

Callous forms in response to friction, so filing and whatnot will just encourage more, even if it improves things temporarily.

Use Flexitol or equivalent urea based cream every day, ideally overnight under socks.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/06/2022 13:53

I use the CCS cream too as it's cheaper than Flexitol

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 22/06/2022 15:17

Newtons Chiropody Sponge and Soap and Glory Heel Genius for me.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 22/06/2022 15:24

I would say use something like Footner (it's amazing) to get rid of the dead skin and then keep moisturised

Foxgluv · 22/06/2022 15:24

Margaret Dabbs foot file is astonishingly good at removing hard skin & easy to use. Creams are fantastic too. Callus Peel is also amazing but more time consuming. Urea based cream with that one.

lightand · 22/06/2022 15:28

E45. But I dont have it bad and never seen a podiatrist.

123ZYX · 22/06/2022 15:30

I find the O'Keeffe's foot cream works well

TattiePants · 22/06/2022 21:14

Another recommendation for Flexitol.

Riverlee · 22/06/2022 21:35

Avon foot cream is very good.

Theoldwrinkley · 22/06/2022 21:52

My diabetic nurse says glexitol. I used to get it on prescription but no more. Amazon see big tubs.
Do take care of your feet. I had a flesh-eating bug get into my body through my split skin on feet (necrotizing fasciitis) and was given a 50/50 chance of survival after surgery to get rid of dead tissue...sorry if tmi! But def flexitol.

Allsizes8to14 · 22/06/2022 21:54

I’m 3 days in to using a cheap cream with urea (£4 in Tesco) and can already see big difference 🥳

My chiropodist did an amazing job on my feet a few years ago, took off all the hard skin etc. She recommended slathering feet in vaseline before bed, then putting on cotton socks and sleeping in them.

The socks don't stay on all night, presumably I pull them off in my sleep. But this definitely works, I've been able to maintain very nice feet ever since.

It's something I always notice, especially in sandal weather. So many nicely dressed women with rough white or yellow soles. For me it was so easily sorted out. Hope whatever you do works out for you OP.
