Hard skin on feet

MoreProseccoNow · 12/06/2022 10:30

My feet are in need of TLC - the skin on the soles is hard.

Rather than going for an expensive pedicure, are there any good DIY sets for a home pedi?

I think I'll need a blade for the hard skin, as well as a file.

Any recommendations?

Do NOT set about yourself with blades.

Pay for a half decent chiropody appointment and do the 'pampering' at home

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/06/2022 10:36

Newton’s chiropody sponge and Soap and Glory foot stuff works for me 😉 Just go quite gently!

Footner will get rid of the hard skin then keep on top of it with a foot file and lots of moisturiser

MoreProseccoNow · 12/06/2022 11:05

I think it's beyond the foot cream stage - the hard skin is very thick.

I'd start with the footner peeling socks.
I use the NYX foot file and heel balm - can't remember the name

Arnaquer · 12/06/2022 11:20

Flexitol heel balm. It's the best

Colossal Foot Rasp File and... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KPYNW24?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is amazing!

Works really well on dry and wet feet. Then buff with a foot file and put the flexitol cream on overnight. Some people just get more hard skin than others, I have to do the above every 2 weeks in sandal season

SpringIntoChaos · 12/06/2022 11:25

I recently bought a small electric foot file (when I say 'electric'...it's one that you charge by either batteries or USB). It's fab, and very easy to use!! My feet feel like a newborn baby's after just a couple of minutes 🤣 I follow up with Flexitol balm overnight...smooth as silk! And my heels and big toes were seriously manky!

MuchTooTired · 12/06/2022 11:36

@SpringIntoChaos which one did you get if you don’t mind me asking? I was looking at them recently for my hooves feet but as usual got overwhelmed by the choice on Amazon so gave up!

ParadiseLaundry · 12/06/2022 11:47

A footner type treatment, definitely, although don't waste your money on the branded one, the £1 from Savers works just as well.

Then after all the skin has peeled off use a pumice every time you shower and apply cream every day, it's time consuming but really effective.

I also like those sock type moisturising treatments also from places like Savers. I get about three days use out of them.

Danikm151 · 12/06/2022 11:50

Foot peel socks work wonders. It’s gross for a couple of weeks but the results are great. £1 from savers/home bargains

Electric Foot File Callus... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09CKN3G9H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I got this one. You can but spare rollers for it easily too 👍

SpringIntoChaos · 12/06/2022 12:54

Sorry…my link above was for @MuchTooTired 🤦‍♀️ (Which is what I am today!!)

snowgirl1 · 12/06/2022 12:59

From personal experience, I wouldn't recommend trying to tackle hard skin yourself with a blade. I'd recommend going to a chiropodist or finding somewhere that does a medical pedicure - they do full on hardskin removal and then paint your toes.

I laughed at the descriptions of the sanding heads on Amazon 😅

The soap and glory file is fantastic.

CHiSOCG · 12/06/2022 13:10

Gosh be careful because you do need ‘some’ hard skin. I once filed raw and it was bloody painful!

go to a proper podiatrist and get your foot seen to! You could have corns or anything within that hard skin

Azizai · 12/06/2022 13:10

Cheap electric foot file from Amz and O'keeffe's healthy feet. This was the only combination that worked long term, having spent a small fortune on all sorts of socks, peels and creams/moisturisers for almost two years.

bbcweather · 12/06/2022 13:15

I agree with @BEAM123, I have one if those foot files, it's fantastic and sooooo satisfying. I collect the trimmings on a tea towel and throw them over the fence because I don't like my neighbours. You can also use them if you've run out of Parmesan. My ex husband didn't notice the difference.

@bbcweather hilarious!!
i use the £3 metal foot file from Superdrug and aqueous cream. Need to do almost weekly which is a pain but feel like I have new feet after!

Mumof31981 · 12/06/2022 15:25

I used the foot peel socks, I bought them from Amazon then I follow up nightly with Flexitol. My feet are quite smooth now. My DH was saying my feet needed his angle grinder to remove the hard skin but no longer thanks to what I used as a safer alternative to a power tool
