Are Salt-Water sandals worth the price?

Shufflebumnessie · 08/06/2022 22:04

I'm contemplating buying a pair of Salt-Water sandals but just wondering if they are worth the price tag?
I'm looking for sandals that are comfortable to wear for long periods, in hot weather and good in the rain (our holiday destination is hot and humid with a likelihood of heavy rain).
Thanks in advance.

Yes they are.

Mine are 4 years old but still look like new. I’ve been in the sea with them on and it didn’t make any difference to how they look.

Gardenerboo · 08/06/2022 22:07

Mine have lasted 6 years. I wear them a lot and find them very comfortable.

I know some people say that they are very flat with little cushioning which is true but I walk miles in mine.

Beamur · 08/06/2022 22:08

I love mine. Only downside is they are very flat. Smart and durable though..

houseargh · 08/06/2022 22:08

I have some and honestly don't think they are that comfortable. Arch support is not great. They look nice but I definitely wouldn't want to walk around all day sightseeing in them

DinosaursEatMan · 08/06/2022 22:09

They were too flat for me and gave me agonising foot pain. Shame because they looked great.

superram · 08/06/2022 22:10

Just thinking about them hurts my plantar but they sound ideal for your purpose. They gave me excruciating heel pain.

WrinklesShminkles · 08/06/2022 22:13

I've recently bought some of the thicker soled ones but not had a chance to wear them yet thanks to a very cold Spring up here. The flat ones are incredibly kind to my wonky feet - the straps don't rub at all. But I agree they're uncomfortable for walking if you need arch support.

blitzen · 08/06/2022 22:14

They definitely don't rub or hurt in that way - the leather is nice and soft. However, the sole is ultra thin, and you can feel every lump and bump below. There's absolutely zero support in them and they bring no comfort. Great if you are wearing them for max a couple of hours at the beach, but beyond that, they're turd!

blitzen · 08/06/2022 22:15

Ps I've found much comfort in Esska sandals

CarrieMoonbeams · 08/06/2022 22:16

It's funny but I wasn't expecting them to be comfortable when I saw them, but exactly as a PP said, I've walked for miles in them.

I've had mine for 5 years, have worn them in high humidity in India and in the dry heat (and the sea) in Abu Dhabi, they still look brand new.

Afterfire · 08/06/2022 22:16

The original ones are far too flat for me to do any proper walking anywhere in them. They’ve done a new style with a thicker sole though which you can find on their proper website.

Petal7 · 08/06/2022 22:20

Yes, I think so. I've had mine for years and they still look new. So versatile and useful, as getting them wet doesn't cause any damage. They are very flat, but I don't find them uncomfortable. Expensive, but worth it.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/06/2022 22:24

They look good forever so I'd say they are very good value. I have no feet issues and think my saltwaters are incredibly comfortable, they aren't officially barefoot shoes but they are very similar in feel with their simple thin sole and so are much more comfortable for me than e.g. fitflops which people rave about. I have worn them for days walking in the countryside, days walking all over our large site at work, days climbing over rocks at the seaside, and days walking round big cities, and they never let me down. Love them.

VivienneDelacroix · 08/06/2022 22:24

Absolutely- I wear mine all the time in the summer, both at the beach and walking around generally. As others have said, I walk miles in mine and they are very comfortable. They are very flat, but some people find that okay.

Inklingpot · 08/06/2022 22:29

Mystified by the MN love of saltwater sandals. I bought some and they are clearly made for people with the narrowest feet on the planet who don’t mind blisters.

familyissues12345 · 08/06/2022 22:30

For someone whose feet normally fall apart at the thought of breaking in new sandals - Saltwaters have been absolutely amazing!

They are flat though, I wear them out and about and they've been fine at weddings etc, but I don't think I'd be able to walk miles in them

OutDamnedSpot · 08/06/2022 22:33

I didn’t expect them to be comfortable (too flat) but they are. I can walk for miles in mine. I’ve had them about six years and they still look like new. Definitely worth the price!

crosbystillsandmash · 08/06/2022 22:33

What size are you op?
I'm a 5 so buy the kids ones, loads cheaper!
My favourite pair are 5 years old and still look brand new

Beamur · 08/06/2022 22:39

The sizes are American I think? So try them on if you can.

Same here! Liked the way they looked but my arches were agony.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 08/06/2022 22:48

I love mine! They typically last me around 5 years, and that includes lots of going in the sea.
I have wide feet, so find it interesting that a PP thought they were better for narrow feet.
Having seen the new styles with a soft sole I’m very tempted by some mustard boardwalks

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/06/2022 23:01

I found them really uncomfortable - also wide of foot. I sold mine on Depop.

Tigofigo · 08/06/2022 23:24

I've had mine 6 years and they still look great. They are very flat but ideal for beach / wet conditions.

For comfort I love my Tevas, which are fine to get wet but take ages to dry.

downtonupton · 08/06/2022 23:47

They look good forever and are comfortable but I found them too flat with a lack of shock absorption - great for wearing around a festival, campsite, beach etc. Not great for wearing all day walking on pavements etc

This! I don't understand the love for them either. Totally flat, no support and wafer thin soles so you feel every stone. I bought a pair after seeing them constantly recommended on here. Wore them a couple of times and then they went on Ebay.
