Crest teeth whitening strips or going to the dentist?

I've had a recent dentist check-up and I don't suffer with sensitive teeth. I was thinking of going to my dentist to get my teeth whitened. They are not very yellow, just a bit duller than I would like. I just want to brighten them up slightly, but still be natural. My family member has some Crest whitening strips from the US that they have said I can use.

I'm not sure which option to go for. Obviously the white strips are easier and will save me a lot of money.

I have a dentist hygienist appointment coming up, so would it be best to wait for that first before doing any whitening treatments?

Surely you didn't believe that? Charcoal isn't a whitening agent.

I hope lots of others didn't fall for it.

Go to the hygienist for a clean.

I got tooth whitening at the dentist and my DH got an airflow clean at his dentist. His teeth were very yellow (smoker/coffee) and his were far more white than mine in the end as I hated using the at home whitening trays.

I'd go for the crest strips. I've used them many times and all my American friends use them and have done for 15 years +. No problems I've heard of. You will likely feel sore/ sensitive though temporarily with either crest strips or dentist treatments.

Crest strips are the only home thing that has worked for me! I use professional effects

Felicity42 · 04/06/2022 12:01

Can you use them if you have sensitive teeth?

letsjustnot · 04/06/2022 13:11

I decided to try the Crest whitening strips, so far I've used 5 treatments and I'm really happy with how they've worked. My teeth look brighter and whiter and I've not had any sensitivity.

I wouldn't use charcoal

Thinning enamel. When you use activated charcoal toothpaste, your teeth may look whiter at first. But after continued use, your teeth may start looking more yellow. If this happens, it’s because the activated charcoal has worn down your enamel and revealed the dentin layer of your teeth.

More surface roughness. In a lab test, researchers found that activated charcoal powder on its own increased the surface roughness of teeth and even changed the enamel surface. The study also showed that activated charcoal powder didn’t whiten teeth.

Anyone tried Zoom laser? Around £400 so I'm wondering if it's worth it

LondonQueen · 04/06/2022 13:32

Where can I buy crest strips in the UK? My teeth aren't super yellow but they're not as bright as I'd like.

CookPassBabtridge · 04/06/2022 18:00

I get mine from Ukteethwhitening

LondonQueen · 04/06/2022 19:03

thanks both, I shall have a look

CookPassBabtridge · 04/06/2022 19:38

No worries Smile I look at pics from my warly 20s and my teeth were yellow tinged. They are a lovely white cokour now (not hollywood fake white!) and I probably do them once a year. I get 10 treatments which I think is £30.. for the year that is great. Half an hr each evening for 10 days, no sensitivity.

There are several different crest whitening strips. Which ones?!

growandhope · 05/06/2022 20:17

@Smartsub you are correct, there are several versions. You can buy them even from alibaba.com or the website mentioned above Ukteethwhitening.com but they are not the same as the US version. Because the level of hydrogen peroxide used is different. Not an expert at all at all but I have used both and this would explain it further:
www.cosmeticsdesign-europe.com/Article/2020/07/30/Teeth-whitening-regulations-across-the-globe-EU-US-and-Canada

So the American Crest Whitestrips differ slightly in packaging, image 1 and the alternative version looks like image 2; the difference being the sparkle around the C and the text and the background. You can get the American versions on amazon.com: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AHAWWO0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

but your lower teeth at least will definitely feel the sensitivity with the US version, much harder, but probably more effective, but if the others work use them, not as harsh on your enamel.

apologies, link was incorrect: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AHAWWO0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4thtimesthecharm · 05/06/2022 20:31

I've looked at these before but got lost on how many I should buy. What pack size would users recommend?

JinglingHellsBells · 05/06/2022 21:04

I've had mine done professionally using trays and gel at home (provided by dentist.) I was told that you use it for 2 weeks and my dentist doesnt allow another go at it for 2 years as she says it can destroy enamel. They have also reduced the percentage of peroxide in the whitening gel compared to a few years ago, for safety reasons.

With strips, if your teeth are not even, surely the strips don't fit round the teeth in the same way you would if having it done professionally?

JinglingHellsBells · 05/06/2022 21:05

Bear in mind that the Crest strips are advertised as 'removing stains'.

My teeth were not stained. I've had creamy coloured teeth all my life and wanted a whiter shade.

It depends what you want to achieve.
