Are Parlux hair dryers worth it.

Plump82 · 27/05/2022 14:47

I have long hair which is quite fine but I have lots of it and it also takes ages to dry with a hairdryer.
My current one is about to give up the ghost and I'm considering a Parlux. Are they worth it?

My current one is ok, think it's a Panasonic but I really don't want to get another cheaper priced one and find it's rubbish.

Does anyone have any recommendations if not Parlux.

Just to add, I'm not getting a Dyson or anything in that price bracket. I'm looking at max £80.

I have a parlux and also have fine hair. Best hairdryer I have owned. Bought my mum one and cousins used it at her house and commented on how impressed they were.

HimalayanSnowcock · 27/05/2022 15:06

I've got a parlux and I don't think it's anything special. It's quite heavy too.

thinkfast · 27/05/2022 15:08

Quite heavy but great. Very powerful. I've used Parlux driers for the last 15 years or so. Wouldn't swap.

BlessedByTheShitFairy · 27/05/2022 15:08

I have an expensive Parlux and no, I don't think it was worth it. I fell for the hype.

I found this out after travelling for 6 months with a tiny cheap one from Boots. It was the same to be honest. I have difficult, frizzy hair and I notice any improvement!

SergeiL · 27/05/2022 15:08

I read about them on here and coveted one for ages. Finally splashed out and it was nothing at all special. And it then broke shortly after the warranty ran out. I was not impressed.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/05/2022 15:17

My last one lasted 6 years iirc and the one I have now must be about that too I think.

Not heavy for me and I have issues with my arms/using heavy appliances.

I have used a Dyson and didn't rate it at all on comparison.

I have really thick medium length hair which takes about 25 mins to dry with a bog standard dryer and the Parlux takes less than ten minutes .

LittleAvocet · 27/05/2022 15:24

I don't think my hair looks any better but drying with a Parlux is quicker for me.

Bluenigellas · 27/05/2022 15:24

I’d say definitely worth it. I have thick, long hair and it cuts my drying time significantly and really smooths my hair. I tried my sisters dyson and wasn’t impressed at all, didn’t get the hype!

Plump82 · 27/05/2022 15:43

Oooh a real mixed bag. I'm not overly fussed with how my hair looks after it as it's more or less straight. I'm mainly after cutting down drying time and if it's nice a smooth then that's a bonus. Like @mrspelligrinopetrichor my hair takes about 25 mins to blow dry so 10 would be amazing.

I think mine is great - drying time is much faster than my previous one. It says 'advance light' on so I think it's a light weight model. I bought it in 2018, although it rarely got used in lockdown. No issues with it, I would recommend.

florianfortescue · 27/05/2022 16:09

I love mine! Best hairdryer I've ever had.

Gensola · 27/05/2022 16:12

I have very thick long hair and I love mine - recommended by a hairdresser. I’d definitely get another one when this one gives up the ghost.

Paddingtonthebear · 27/05/2022 16:15

Yeah I’ve got one, the power light model and it’s decent. Had it about 6 years and no signs of replacing any time soon. Prior to this I was probably buying a new one every 2 years. I’ve had some proper crap ones so I do think there is a difference between them all. I wonder for frizzy hair if you need to use a particular type/ model and with less power. Mine is light but powerful. I have straight hair which is fine but absolutely loads of it. Cheap hairdryers take forever to dry my hair but my Parlux gets it done in no time.

ArabeI · 27/05/2022 16:16

Mine's approx over a decade old now I'm sure. It is heavy, as a pp said, but the newer models might not be? It's very good, I would recommend.

I'd like to upgrade but nowadays rarely use a hairdryer, so would be frivolous.

Paddingtonthebear · 27/05/2022 16:18

The powerlight 385 is the lightest model but has all the ceramic plates so no frizz!

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 27/05/2022 16:20

Parllux is better than bog standard one but if you want to splash out GHD Helios is amazing

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 27/05/2022 16:22

I currently have a Dyson, which was given to me as a gift. When it eventually dies, I'll go back to Parlux. I had one before and loved it. I'll definitely got for one of the lighter weight models though.

AmbushedByCake1 · 27/05/2022 16:24

I've got one and I love it. Must have had it 8 years and still going strong.

I have really thick hair and it cut my drying time in half.

Arnaque · 27/05/2022 16:25

I've had mine for 8 years , I wouldn't use anything else. I have shoulder length hair and it's dry in 10 minutes.
I find other makes leave my hair frizzy.

EggRollsForever · 27/05/2022 16:41

I have one .It was about 100 - not heavy and dries quickly. Very pleased with it and it has a long cable compared to my previous ones.

Plump82 · 27/05/2022 18:44

You've convinced me that I should buy one!

TheBeardedVulture · 27/05/2022 18:48

I’ve got one and it is fairly heavy. It’s alright, but nothing special in terms of functionality. If hadn’t spent so much money in it I would jack it in for a lighter model. My hair is thick and wavy.

it has lasted ages though - at least 8 years.

Buttons294749 · 27/05/2022 18:50

YES!!!
IT TAMED my frizzy main and gave me silky tresses.

SuddenArborealStop · 27/05/2022 18:51

I won my parlux when I was 16 , I'm 37 and still using it 😯

It is definitely great for quickly blasting my thick hair

boniobiscuit · 27/05/2022 18:56

I love mine, best hairdryer I've ever had!
