Drinking water

I keep seeing references on here and elsewhere to how drinking lots of water is really beneficial to your appearance. I really struggle to drink enough at the best of times - every year I make the resolution that I'll drink more water and I fail every time. I think I need some pep talks in the shape of positive stories about how you drank a load of water and veritably transformed 😉or at least to understand a bit more about the benefits as people have actually experienced them. Also, erm, does squash count? I have to admit I find water quite dull.

Also meant to say, any tips and tricks for actually drinking enough welcomed!

The thing that has made the biggest difference to me is keeping a jug of water in the fridge. I find ice-cold water much more palatable.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/05/2022 16:56

It definitely helps.

Have you ever been drinking alcohol all night and woke up and noticed how dull and odd your skin looks? You may not feel thirsty but your skin will be.

I'm 32 and have very soft skin on my face from all my lotions and potions but noticed a huge difference to the skin on my arms and legs once I kicked up my water game.

It is very full so I do sometimes throw in some cucumber, strawberries and/or mint.

Fitterbyfifty · 09/05/2022 16:58

I have started keeping a bottle of water next to the bed so I drink as soon as I wake up. I used to not do this as I was worried about knocking a glass over in the night although the solution was obvious! I also used to wake up parched in the night and couldn't be bothered to get a glass of water from the kitchen. I am trying to drink more in general and I think it has made a difference - not earth shattering but my skin doesn't look quite as dry.

Clementine183 · 09/05/2022 17:08

Thank you! I'm early forties and look reasonably young for my age but am a bit prone to dark circles under the eyes etc. and my skin has always been "OK" but never amazing, so thought this might help. Ice-cold is definitely nicer, in hot weather anyway. Keeping some by the bed also a good plan. I do quite like cucumber water, maybe I should try that more...

I love water. I've always drank litres and litres. I didn't have a single spot as a teen (I know it wasn't down to this alone of course) but it just makes me feel so much better. I really notice it if I don't drink much. You can add stuff if you find it boring.... Mint, strawberry, cucumber etc. I just have a glass about every 30 mins

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 09/05/2022 17:34

I'm 38 and have been drinking a lot of water since I was 18. I literally turned 18 and said "I'm going to drink 2 litres of water a day for a fortnight" as some kind of beauty challenge, and never stopped! It makes my skin look plump and I've rarely had spots in my adult life.
I find it boring, so the only way to get it down for me is to stand by the sink and down an entire glass straight away, then do the same regularly throughout the day.

Blone · 09/05/2022 17:45

I don't always drink loads of water and my skin looks fine!

catfunk · 09/05/2022 17:48

When I don't drink enough water I get spots and cracked lips and dry skin

cookiemonster2468 · 09/05/2022 17:58

Staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your health and appearance.

Yes, squash counts of course, although you might want to keep an eye on the additional sugar/ sweeteners you are drinking.

Water is the best for your body.

AdaColeman · 09/05/2022 18:03

I've been thinking I should drink more water too.
I've started to take a bottle of water to drink through the night, another idea is I'm going to have a glass of water with lunch and dinner every day.

In the summer I often make a jug of herbal tea, and keep it in the fridge to have drinks through the day, so I'm going to do that every day.

I was reading that keeping a small bowl of chunks of watermelon ready in the fridge to snack on through the day was a good idea, so I'm going to try that too.

Hotmess1 · 09/05/2022 21:25

😕 think I must just be unlucky - I drink loads of water and always have done, prob 5/6 pints a day but still have acne and dark circles!

Xztop · 10/05/2022 07:53

I just can't drink water! Or squash or anything other than tea. I'm 43 and have good skin-so far- BUT I really need to drink water so I'm following with interest...

Roominmyhouse · 10/05/2022 08:22

I definitely feel like drinking lots of water has helped keep my skin young looking. I’m 40 in 3 weeks and don’t really have any lines. But I also gave up smoking a long time ago and don’t spend masses of time in the sun. It could be genes but I’m so used to drinking loads of water I feel really thirsty and dehydrated if I don’t!

peridito · 10/05/2022 08:47

I liked the look of these en.waterdrop.com/collections/waterdrops but too expensive for me .
Maybe a cheaper version will appear .

Clementine183 · 10/05/2022 09:38

Oh yes I like the look of those waterdrop things too. Glad I am not the only one struggling, and good to hear that others have (mostly!) benefited from drinking lots of water. I do agree it is partly luck of the draw. I have never smoked either and think that does help.

I had a few glasses in the wake of this thread yesterday, but now it's gone 9.30am and I've drunk nothing... better go and get some!

Fitterbyfifty · 10/05/2022 09:48

@peridito I think there are already cheaper versions. Just put a bit of fruit / mint in a bottle. Or use teabags for cold (iced) tea. I am not in the UK but we can get them at any supermarket. I am drinking one now which is Spirulina and Lime and it is nicer that it sounds!

peridito · 10/05/2022 09:58

Thanks fitter ,good call .

Although I'm such a sucker for the waterdrops presentation ,cute little boxes ,neat little cubes ,adorable patterns ...

Personally I'm a big fan of Robinsons Watermelon and Strawberry squash ,though it can be hard to find in shops near me .

Drinking water
MrsDThomas · 10/05/2022 10:30

I love my chilly bottle. I can only drink cold water.

if i don’t drink enough i feel dehydrated from within.

ArabeI · 10/05/2022 11:16

I don't like squash or cordial much. I drink one effervescent vitamin C and one of those rehydration tablets dissolved in water (science in sport usually). I find it easier to drink plain still water with a meal, or drink it quickly rather than sip over time. Sparkling water when eating out. It does make a difference, I find.

Though I still like my nice coffee, and won't give those up (approx three a day) and green tea. Also kombucha once a day.

ArabeI · 10/05/2022 11:19

I find it boring, so the only way to get it down for me is to stand by the sink and down an entire glass straight away, then do the same regularly throughout the day.

That's what I do.

Newestname002 · 10/05/2022 11:27

I keep a 70ml water bottle at my side all day and sip on it whenever I feel thirsty. I get through about two or three of these daily - more in hot weather or after exercise. Also a smaller bottle in my bag for when I'm out and about. I also drink 2-4 large cups (approx half pint each) of herb or ordinary black tea daily plus milk for my breakfast cereal or pre-bed drink. I do feel tired and lacklustre if I'm under hydrated and my skin suffers.

As others suggested, make your own flavoured water and/or also try something like Pukka teas, either drank separately or mix and match the tea bags. Good luck! 🌹

Newestname002 · 10/05/2022 11:29

Oops - 750ml!! 🌹

mamakoukla · 10/05/2022 11:29

Glass of water first thing on waking. I keep a glass filled up ready to go. As I enter the kitchen, I drink it and refill. I find that after awhile my body gets used to drinking more water and then it’s become a habit again

BigDayToday · 10/05/2022 12:11

I try tondo this too - I do notice a difference when I remember (but I often forget) so I try to make a habit of it.

I drink a lot at night so always keep a glass by the bed. Weirdly, I also get thirsty in the bath so I always have a glass there too!

Another one for me is to down a glass before I have a cup of tea!
