Physical stores my Grandma can visit - size 20

NoHeavenNoMore · 06/05/2022 17:06

Can anyone help me please

Basically she's a plus sized lady who needs new clothes but doesn't have internet access and likes to feel fabrics etc. She said she used to use catalogues and order things with the option to send back if needed. But she's not sure if physical catalogues still a thing. I don't think they are but happy to be proved wrong!

Her only option at the moment is the supermarket but they very rarely have her size in. I think she's tried Marks and Spencer's too but that was unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance

Evans, Dorothy Perkins, Matalan have a little plus size section, I think bigger department stores EG John Lewis stock plus size ranges but I'm not 💯 sure.
Monsoon have a plus size range and I think NEXT go up to a 20 or 22 now.

CuriousCatfish · 06/05/2022 17:13

Matalan.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/05/2022 17:13

Bonmarche
Yours clothing
Matalan

Not sure of your nans age and style, mine is in her 90s and likes below knee skirts/dresses and floral simple blouses/tops. There's a couple of garden centres near us with a lovely boutique type shops attached that sells lots of that style of clothes so worth checking those too.

I can add M&S to the list.

You could just buy her a few items and bring the store to her. Then return / exchange what she doesn't like. Obviously this has to be within stores policies like 30 days return, receipt and tags attached.... I do this for MIL. Works really well!

twilightcafe · 06/05/2022 17:20

Bon Marche?

LIZS · 06/05/2022 17:31

Evans and dp no longer have high street stores. John Lewis?

BlanketsBanned · 06/05/2022 17:33

SimplyB

Size 20 won't need a plus size section, a lot of shops will stock that size as standard. Sainsburys are pretty good

NoHeavenNoMore · 06/05/2022 18:10

Yes, She used to love Evans but that's gone. So has her local Bon Marche. Sounds like we might have to travel a bit further afield.

Yes, I suppose we could do this ordering online. I'd just like her to have a shopping experience if possible because Sainsburys is as exciting as it gets for her and it just makes me feel a bit sad!

Evans have online with free returns, where does she live.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/05/2022 18:18

Where are you?

Doveyouknow · 06/05/2022 18:18

My local M&S has loads of size 20/22, Next also has clothes in those sizes. I don't think size 20 is plus size anymore

CheeseComa · 06/05/2022 18:20

H&M are quite size-inclusive even outside their (often online-only) plus-size section these days. They have plenty of floaty tops and dresses this year that are very generously sized and should easily fit a size 20 or larger.

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/05/2022 18:21

I know you wanted further sfield but sainsbury does good plus size clothes

elbea · 06/05/2022 18:40

I There are still catalogue stores but they are expensive. There is a catalogue group - James Alexander Clothing and Cashmere Centre near me. You can request a catalogue and they have a call centre that you can order through if you aren’t computer savvy. It’s aimed at older people that aren’t tech savvy.

Avon do clothes up to a 20-22 as well.

Also Classic Boutique send out catalogues still too up to 24.

Yes you are right but when we go they have always sold out of her size. Happened again yesterday, one thing she fell in love with and wanted and her size was all gone. Think they only get a couple in of each of the bigger sizes so if she's too late she misses out. Anyway I'm going to see if I can try and order the thing she wanted on their website now. I personally love sainsburys clothes too so I'm sure I'll find something for me as well Wink

Okay, that's a good shout. I could show her items on my computer I guess and do a big order like others have suggested. We're based in NW

Went to order said item online and it's sold out in her size 😂😂🫣 the only size that's sold out! Damn

Agree with a previous PP. Garden centres often have Cotton Traders and Edinburgh Woollen Mill concessions onsite. Easy parking, a good selection of clothes and sizes for mature customers, loos nearby and usually a great cafe for lunch or afternoon tea. Makes it an enjoyable trip instead of a chore.

Undertheoldlindentree · 06/05/2022 19:11

Or even just a PP 😀

This sounds great. Thank you for the lovely idea

Both Yours and Roman Originals have stores as well as websites.

MenaiMna · 06/05/2022 21:44

Sainsbury's tu is online at Argos if she sees something in person but they've run out of her size.
