Physical stores my Grandma can visit - size 20

Can anyone help me please

Basically she's a plus sized lady who needs new clothes but doesn't have internet access and likes to feel fabrics etc. She said she used to use catalogues and order things with the option to send back if needed. But she's not sure if physical catalogues still a thing. I don't think they are but happy to be proved wrong!

Her only option at the moment is the supermarket but they very rarely have her size in. I think she's tried Marks and Spencer's too but that was unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance

All shops not designed for teens have size 20.

Morrisons
Asda
Tesco
Sainsbury
Matalan

Roman Originals - have plus sized but may not have any/many in store
but their normal clothes goes up to 20 I think
There is a catalogue - Damart which I think is still going - it's very old fashioned in style though and I'm not sure how old your grandma is.

TK maxx often has larger sizes

NancyJoan · 06/05/2022 22:03

Damart still do a catalogue; if you go onto their site you can order one to be sent to her.

NancyJoan · 06/05/2022 22:05

Lands End will send you a catalogue too.

doggiescats · 06/05/2022 22:06

Our local garden centre has some really lovely larger sized clothes. In fact I am wearing a top from there tomorrow when out for lunch!

Aconitum · 06/05/2022 22:12

They are online now and don't think they actually have paper catalogues any more but JD Williams and Very (it's actually Littlewoods) are still going. You can order as much as you like and return any that aren't suitable.

Bon Marché does exist in some places, but their quality is shit since the administrative restructuring.

I've bought some items and they were awful.

Mark & Spencer, ❤ Yours (very 'fast fashion and also shit quality), Peacocks (ditto), John Lewis (expensive, but you might find some higher quality plus size brands) and supermarkets - Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda all do plus sizes.

I went in an m and Co today. Can’t remember the last time I went in one. They seemed to stock up to a 22 and lots of different styles so should be something suitable for most styles.

it was a bit on the pricey side I thought but then I’m tight when it comes to buying clothes for myself.

Damart looks good. I will order a catalogue for her, I'm sure she will be thrilled. She's in her early 80s. Thanks so much!

Thanks. Just checked their branch locator as was interested but the closest branches are all about 30 miles away 😅 will save it as a back up plan tho. Thank you!

Thank you. Think we will try this and it's possible to do so locally 😊 Grandma has mobility issues that why I don't want to take her too far

Could you order clothes with her on Next? Then she can pick them up in the shop, and touch/try them on immediately and return the ones that don’t fit/she doesn’t like?

Agree with garden centre suggestion - inspired! 😀 It does seem that physical stores often don’t stock a good range of plus sizes, and shopping online is easier. Lots of excellent suggestions already - would add the Able Label, particularly for easy dressing, if that might be helpful. Not cheap, but excellent quality. They have a catalogue.

Just to echo the garden centre suggestions we have quite a few different ones near us and all of the bigger, nicer ones have a small no of wheelchairs at the entrances, which may be helpful for your Grandma to get around the shop. You could always phone ahead to check.
I take my mum round a few on rotation, so far she has managed with her stick but if she gets less mobile a wheelchair would be very helpful for us. In fact we were at one at the weekend, amazing meringues in the cafe, and I noticed they had a large Edinburgh Woollen Mill in it even though our high street one disappeared ages ago.

Amazing! Thank you so much. This looks great, especially for her getting older. I've just ordered a catalogue 😊

Glad to help! If you are interested in the Able Label, do check re VAT exemption. It’s worth calling them - they are very helpful, and although I didn’t think my relative qualified she did. Some really nice clothes too. I think some companies do realise that stylish women do not lose interest in fashion as they get older - fabric and design are still important. Damart has improved, and Edinburgh Woollen Mill was a great shop to have on the High Street, but ours has closed too.
I’m just posting a link to another company your grandma might find useful - not clothes, but really helpful things for everyday living. grannygetsagrip.com/ Some nice products, and ideas. grannygetsagrip.com/back-story/

Wow, that site is fantastic! I had never heard of it before. I bought my grandma one of the Uccello kettles a couple of years ago, was a real game changer for her. I might get one of those teapots for her as well 🫖 Thanj you again.
