I took the one recommended by a Kardashian for 3 months. It was supposed to be good. Didn't see any difference so I stopped.

Thanks

My mum swears by them but she buys them online because "Holland and Barrett don't have high enough dosage" so I can't really recommend that to you because I'm fairly sure you shouldn't buy drugs online!

My dad reckons his arthritic knee is much improved thanks to the collagen. My mum has a scar on her face which has faded noticeably since she started taking the supplements.

SoCollagen

Absolutely rave about it and my friends and mum are all converted

I get it on a monthly subscription now for C.£20/mth.

Seen huge improvements in nails, skin and hair and I'm very cynical about such things!

Agreed the Kardashian recommended 'Dose & Co' doesn't work for me. Avoid.

But...others are life changing and I can't recommend Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides enough.

I am peri menopausal, have auto immune issues and used to have crippling body pains from inflammation - to the point I struggled to sleep and relied on ibuprofen. That's all changed. The pain has dialed down from a severe 10/10 to an annoying niggle 1/10. Also, my peri menopausal constipation has disappeared, my auto immune condition is in remission, and as an added bonus my thinning hair is filled out again and I have strong nails for the first time in my life.

In the past 2 years I have tried 4 different brands.

1st attempt: 😐BeautyPie (Vegan) (OK) Worked amazingly within days on severe body inflammation pain and constipation - but I didn't like their flavoured product.

2nd attempt: ✔😄Ancient & Brave. (Bovine) (Loved this). Used it for 18 months as it rid me of all my problems - as long as I kept taking it. I had a heaped teaspoon in my coffee twice a day. If I stopped for a few days I'd notice the pain and other problems creeping back.

3rd attempt: ✔😄 Hunter & Gather (Bovine) (Loved this). Tried this as it was on offer and cheaper than Ancient & Brave. It was just as good.

4th attempt: ❌Dose & Co (unflavoured). (Hated). My body started to complain within days. Couldn't continue after just 2 weeks as my body inflammation was disrupting my sleep, I was constipated and my auto immune disorder flared up and needed steriods for the first time in 2 years.

Went back to Hunter & Gather and within one day noticed big improvements.

My favourite is Hunter & Gather as it works for me and is reasonably priced (espeically on offer).

Hope this helps.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 12/01/2023 21:53

@Acqua oh that's really interesting to read about your experiences with Hunter & Gather and Ancient & Brave. I've been looking at both of these and wondering which to try. Think I might give Hunter & Gather a go!

HermioneWeasley · 12/01/2023 21:55

I’ve been taking it for my nails and I’ve seen a big difference. I buy whatever is cheapest on Amazon!

IveForgottenAgainFFS · 12/01/2023 22:00

The science behind this was on a BBC podcast recently.

You swallow the supplement, you digest it where its turned into amino acids (iirc) then your body uses it wherever it wants not necessarily your skin unless that's your body's top priority.

Possible it could help but most likely no noticeable difference.

Wallowingwendy · 12/01/2023 22:05

Can men take it?

I tried Absolute Collagen for 6 months but the only change I noticed was to my bank account 😢 Lots of great reviews but did nothing for me.

user1262085 · 12/01/2023 22:30

Interested to hear if anyone else has found it helped with joint pain as mine is bad just now. I tried collagen serum for my skin and Health and Her supplements for joints, both did zilch so I'm sceptical about wasting my money as these things aren't cheap!

KangarooKenny · 13/01/2023 07:56

I’ve been watching a nutritionist who believes in eating the thing you need before taking supplements, which is my way of thinking too, and she recommends eating around 1.5 grams of protein per kilo.

I’ve been taking cod liver oil for my joint pain and it’s definitely helped. But I’m just about to swap to an omega 3 supplement with high EPA and DHA that I’ve seen recommended by a nutritionist.

Acqua · 13/01/2023 08:18

@GiveMyHeadPeaceffs It's currently on offer at Ocado, £18.40 instead of £23.

Just note that I take it daily to help. I could go without for a week, but the best results come from daily consistency. My mother said it didn't help her, but that's because she would only remember it once or twice a week.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 13/01/2023 09:08

@Acqua oh I'll check that out though I don't think we have Ocado in Northern Ireland ☹️

feralcat19 · 13/01/2023 21:51

I take ingenious which is recommended by Liz Earle Well-being. She usually has an offer code if you look on her website. I've taken it for a couple of years and really can see the difference it's made to my skin etc

I have ordered a bottle of So Collagen to try based on @Neu's recommendation. At least it's less expensive than Absolute Collagen.

@Needanewnamebeingwatched Yes it's that one. Your picture with the green packaging confused me (as my one is black) until I realised that they've changed the packaging. See image. Perhaps explains why they're on offer at Ocado. The sell by date on my black one is BBE 10/2027 so it's OK.

Meant to not be of any use as the amount you would need far exceeds any amount in a supplement. Ergo they are snake oil. Eating protein regularly is better.
