This is interesting as I’ve just started taking it, so keen to see peoples success stories. I’m mainly taking it for my Fibromyalgia and auto immune issues. I’ve just bought one off Amazon it’s called The pretty Smart Food Co, says it’s 100% marine and has blueberry and turmeric which is supposed to be good for my fibromyalgia and other issues. I’d been thinking about it for a while then I saw my first wrinkle and was on Amazon like a flash.

@HundredMilesAnHour that one took about 6 weeks before I saw a tangible difference but 18 months later I'm still so glad I started it! Hope it works for you.

I have been using Wellgard Bovine for a while. I was skeptical. But it’s definitely made a difference to my joints.
I have noticed differences in my skin and hair. But I am 6 months into 12 month plan for my hair, so it could be that finally kicking in. And I am paying more attention to skin care. So it’s hard to judge.

But my joints are definitely better.

I do want to try the hunter gatherer one next.

collagen is an incomplete protein. You would be much better off increasing daily protein levels.
I have tried drinking bovine collagen on and off but the underlying taste makes me gag. No way is it flavourless!

HoppingAndHoping · 14/01/2023 07:53

I use collagen like a (regular) protein powder.

I am lactose free (and low dairy in general) and I never found a vegan protein powder that works for me. They're either full of sugar and or other additives (aromas, sweeteners etc) or they taste like crap.

My one measuring spoon of collagen is just a little boost of extra protein and I am very happy with it.

I personally have good experiences with hyaluronic acid supplements btw.

I'm having at least 90g protein everyday, so might be ok then. Just need something for my hair as it's a bit dry, I'm taking HRT and in 52

I’ve been taking mobu marine collagen supplements. I’ve been taking two a day. So costs about £6 a month.

I have noticed a difference in my knees (which is the main reason I’m taking them). Pain that has been ongoing for about 8 months is feeling much better and I noticed a change within a few days of taking them. Maybe coincidence, but there is a lot of research online to say that collagen does help ligaments and joints.

There is actually lots of research out there that also says it is beneficial for skin. You’ll always get people saying that it’s the same as having protein and that your body will just break it down and then when we use it the way you need. But it is quite different to protein and has much more of certain types of amino acids, which generally aren’t found in meat. Also Collagen peptides are small and aren’t broken down so your body can use them. It’s also theorised that other mechanisms are going on in your body to produce collagen when you take collagen.

Dr Brad Stanfield on YouTube looks at a lot of studies on Collagen and how it might cc work.

I also rate award winning Ingenious Collagen. Developed by scientists. Interesting science behind it ( I am not in anyway financially connected to this company, just a happy customer).

I have ordered a bottle of So Collagen to try based on @Neu's recommendation. At least it's less expensive than Absolute Collagen.

Any update on this ? How’s it going

@Cath2712 To be honest, I've noticed zero difference. I'm still taking it in case it's helping 'invisibly' 🙄but that's mainly because I tend to get lots of sports injuries as I'm getting older rather than for any 'cosmetic' benefit. I haven't noticed any difference with my hair, my nails were strong already and I use Dermatica so my face looks relatively youthful anyway so 😏

What a shame - Ive just ordered the hunter gatherer for £30 - but I am started to think all this stuff is just snake oil.

Me too. I think if you have a serious deficiency it might help but who knows?!
