Backless jersey dress - would you add support or can someone recommend a stick on bra?

I have a dress I love in thick cotton jersey. It has a scoop back with ties that doesn’t work with a bra. I’m around a 30D so my boobs aren’t big but I’m more comfortable with a little support. They’re also uneven from breastfeeding which going braless emphasises.
Has anyone added soft cups or a supportive panel to a casual dress?
Or can anyone recommended stick on cups/bra that are comfortable and stay on even if you’re fairly active? A lot of reviews focus on bridal or formal wear, I’m more likely to be chasing my 3 year old round a playground so I need something that stays in place. Thank you!

Can you do a low halter neck wrap around bra with it?

LeeMiller · 30/04/2022 17:51

It’s not a halterneck dress, it’s spaghetti straps. So it has to be something at the front only.
I’m half considering bondawebbing in some cups but I’m scared of ruining it.

Sorry but I used a stick on bra once and it was awful. Really uncomfortable, not much support. I wouldn't use it again. Could you get away with a little bandeau type thing? So you would see it but it wouldn't look like a bra strap. Like This

LeeMiller · 30/04/2022 18:44

I think a bandeau wouldn’t look right, a bikini at the beach would be ok but for everyday I think I’d have to wear it with a cardigan or shirt.
It’s a simple jersey dress so not really worth the fuss in some respects but it’s a really comfy and flattering cut and I could potentially get a lot of wear from it so I’d like to make it work.

I thought that might be the case @WhereAreWeNow :(

I had a backless bra which had a really low back down just at my waist. It was from La Senza but somewhere like Primark probably does something similar these days?

LeeMiller · 30/04/2022 18:55

Thanks @HighInPolyunsaturates . I know there is stuff out there, just wondering if any of it is comfy enough for everyday wear or if they fall straight off/down as soon as you move.

Mine was ok from what I recall. What made of proper bra material, not sticky or plasticky like stick on time ones.

In the past with tricky dresses or tops for summer I've worn a halter/tie bikini top under, say bright pink or blue or something. It's deliberately 'on show' and looks summery/beachy. Maybe try something like that?

WhereAreWeNow · 30/04/2022 20:52

I reckon either go down the deliberately on show, strappy bikini route or go bra-less.

DailySheetWasher · 30/04/2022 23:03

Oh it's lovely, it would be a shame not to wear it.

A triangle bikini top is a great idea.

Solasum · 30/04/2022 23:09

Can you find a bra with a transparent back strap?
Like this one? from M&S

SleepingStandingUp · 30/04/2022 23:13

I'd buy a cheap string bikini. Gotta be preferable to stick on cups running around a playground on a hotty sticky day

DailySheetWasher · 01/05/2022 01:13

It could look cute over a tight white tshirt too.

Slowgrowingelm · 01/05/2022 01:34

Honestly I think your best bet is to follow pp’s suggestions with the ‘on show’ string bikini or something similar as a bra. Make it part of the look. Halter bikini or thin strap, complementary (or contrast) colour bra. It’s a summer dress so it will work and it will be more supportive than the stick on things (I’ve tried a few but they haven’t worked for me, DD to E). Also with a lot of late 90’s looks starting to come out now you will be very ‘on trend’.

I have a hot pink mesh bra with thin straps (sounds awful, I know) that works so well with awkward summer tops and dresses. It’s completely obvious but somehow ‘fits’.

pastypirate · 01/05/2022 01:37

Stick on bras fall off when you sweat they are a nightmare

Rina66 · 01/05/2022 04:51

What about the triangle bras? I know it will show at the back but the straps are so thin. The skims brand are excellent...

SonicWomb · 01/05/2022 05:49

That skims one looks so badly fitted and uncomfortable… I can’t believe they actually put out pictures like that? The strap is pulling half way up her back

LeeMiller · 01/05/2022 07:17

I live somewhere hot so if stick-on bras are incompatible with sweating they’re a definite no!

ok it seems there’s a consensus… I will try a triangle bra and not try to hide it. And ignore my mum’s voice in my head muttering about visible straps!

I have a couple of skims scoop neck bralettes and they’re amazingly comfy and supportive despite looking really flimsy so maybe I’ll try something from there.

I have to wear a d cup and have used Braza stick on things in the past. You definitely would not want anyone to see you naked from the front Confused but they didn't come unstuck and did hold everything in place!

LeeMiller · 01/05/2022 08:09

Thanks frisky. They do look weird and like you couldn’t lift your arms up without it falling down… I think I’d have to do extensive garden trials before I dared wear it out.

So do people think adding cups or a panel to the dress itself just isn’t worth the hassle, or it wouldn’t work on an unstructured dress?

I’m going to dig out my bikinis from the back of the wardrobe today and see if anything could work.

There is no problem (at least I didn't have any) with lifting arms up. The braza ones are throwaway one-use self adhesive stickers. You literally place/stick it around the bottom of your boob and hoik boob up to broadly the height and perkiness you require: then kind of sellotape the whole affair in place. So not great for the environment as single use, (can't remember how much they are either as it's been a while) but they really dont shift as long as skin is clean and dry when you first apply them.

jytdtysrht · 01/05/2022 15:49

I would take it to a dressmaker and get them to stitch something in

opensunflower · 01/05/2022 16:42

Cant you get a strapless bra and pull it down low?

LeeMiller · 01/05/2022 16:48

A strapless bra is too high opensunflower (I have a short torso so the back is much lower on me than on the model).

Yes I’m contemplating asking a dressmaker to sew something in, does it matter that it’s unlined?
