I am craving simple clothes. Anyone else?

Whenever I’m shopping I feel like it’s so hard to find good basic clothes. Menswear seems so much simpler! I go in a shop and everything is crazy patterned or flouncy.

I want a well cut white t shirt, and stuff that all goes together so that I don’t have a headache at picking an outfit.

Am I alone in this?

No, you're not! I've ordered fabric samples and I'm going to make myself a dress and some t-shirts as I can't find what I want.

SpeedofaSloth · 15/04/2022 11:20

Agree, Uniqlo is good for this.

FeelMyBicep · 15/04/2022 11:22

Completely agree. I love Gap for this as well as Uniqlo. Everything seems a bit flouncy recently, for me anyway!

CharSiu · 15/04/2022 11:24

I often buy teenage boy clothes.

For some inexplicable reason everything seems more patterned and frilly than ever this year. I would quite like a summer dress or two but struggling to find anything even remotely ok. I haven’t bought any new clothes apart from underwear since the pandemic hit.

emsyj37 · 15/04/2022 11:26

I am considering ordering some stuff from Cos for the first time ever as I am also not really suited to frills, patterns etc. I've ways thought the clothes in Cos look a bit austere, but I saw a try on that doesmybumlook40inthis did on Instagram and a lot of it looked amazing.

I've recently bought a few things from Everlane, shoes are not good for my feet shape, but I find the clothes simple but fit well. There's a sale on at the moment.

Floisme · 15/04/2022 11:37

Well I do enjoy picking an outfit but otherwise I agree - I'm not a fan of frilliness.

One problem is that when simple clothes are badly made, you can't hide the mistakes behind a flounce. I would guess that's partly why the high street loves them so much.

Menswear or teenage boys wear sometimes works for me. My husband, who's extremely fussy, regularly finds stuff in Sainsbury's.

This is also the point where I recommend Community Clothing for no fuss, well made functional basics.

Oh. You all beat me to it!

Londontown12 · 15/04/2022 12:18

Yep ! Been London for a few days literally no basics In the high street shops first time I’ve come home empty handed 😂

lomoloko · 15/04/2022 12:38

Go to Zara. You might not know from the website but it's all simple basics in block colours in the shop, and lots of cotton and linen.

dogsandcoffee · 15/04/2022 13:13

Community clothing is a good shout!

Does uniqlo only suit slim people?? I’m currently a 14-16 on my bottom half and I feel like Uniqlo’s aesthetic might only suit Japanese-style straight up straight down types.

YANBU. I only wear simple clothes.

Blue jeans, white T-shirt, cashmere jumper.

PandoraP · 15/04/2022 13:20

Try Benetton.

BiBabbles · 15/04/2022 13:48

I crave simple clothes, in rich colours.

I walked past some clothes shops yesterday, and it seemed to be either neons or in weak dull colours. Even the whites seemed almost dingy and yeah, it's all frilly or a lot of weird patterns.

AmericanStickInsect · 15/04/2022 14:03

For simple t shirts DH and I both bought a 7 pack from Rapanui when they recently had a sale, lovely quality and fit for me, choice of colours.

I wear their XL or XXL and they are fine - I am 16 top, 18 bottom at the moment. The fit finder in the website is useful.
Mercurial123 · 15/04/2022 14:57

The clothing I've purchased from Everlane has been disappointing. T shirts and trousers were poor quality. Shoes and handbags are decent.

COS is always good for basics and their quality is the best the high street has to offer.

Svara · 15/04/2022 15:00

I wear straight cut 100% cotton dark blue jeans, breton tops, both men's and women's plain t-shirts, and men's merino jumpers (easy to get second hand). I don't have a problem finding what I like.

Agree with this, Rapunai are great. Can even mix sizes so I got a 7 pack of men's split between an XS for me and a S for DS.
woodhill · 15/04/2022 15:04

Yes, my blouse ended up with a torn seam after 2 washes and not easy to repair so back it goes

Don't like a lot of the clothes at the moment and the quality is very poor
