I am craving simple clothes. Anyone else?

Whenever I’m shopping I feel like it’s so hard to find good basic clothes. Menswear seems so much simpler! I go in a shop and everything is crazy patterned or flouncy.

I want a well cut white t shirt, and stuff that all goes together so that I don’t have a headache at picking an outfit.

Am I alone in this?

I’m size 12 for tops and 14-16 for bottoms and the size L in Uniqlo fits well. I sometimes go down to M for tops. The size finder tool is very good.

missmoon · 16/04/2022 12:54

Also agree with others re. Rapanui, and Finisterre is also good for knits.

Cos and arket fit the bill, plus both are amazing quality

Simple clothes perfection:

Old Town.

I’m saving up for some of their trousers, and maybe a dress. Their clothes of glorious. My lockdown weight gain is not.
stickanotherlogonthefire · 16/04/2022 20:53

Weekday
Arket
Cos
Toast
Superdry & Gap (avoiding the pogoed stuff)

I think there's loads of 'plain' clothes in the shops, the patterned stuff is often polyester throw-away crap.

100problems · 16/04/2022 21:00

Uniqlo is great, I'm a 16.

Basics try Anyday at JL, also and/or

You can't beat an M&S men's T-shirt. I buy the small, great neck and sleeve and not too long in the body.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2022 08:42

@100problems - I’m a 16, and I’m always a bit hesitant of getting anything from Uniqlo. No shops within a million miles, have to do mail order. What Uniqlo size do you order? How tall are you?

100problems · 17/04/2022 13:55

I am 5,9 with a 32 inside leg

I buy XL

They have £10 off your first internet order

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2022 14:01

Thank you! You are an inch taller than me, so I’ll try XL. @100problems

I think that Cos quality has really gone down hill this year
BlueBlueCowWondering · 18/04/2022 05:43

I've been impressed by the quality of People Tree clothes. I looked at the website because of their ethics and bought a denim dress and plain long sleeved top in the reduced section. Both are a really good weight fabric.
Nothing high fashion and I avoid the patterned clothing but it suits me for quality.

NevaehMind · 18/04/2022 05:57

White company
Cos
Uniqlo
Gap
Seasalt
La Redoute

valerianaofficiana · 18/04/2022 08:42

I have never understood the need to look like everyone else and thus always given fast fashion a miss.
The utter monstrosities that High Street churns out year after year should be banned on aesthetic and environmental reasons 🤬.
I wear simple things that suit me and pay quite a bit for the pleasure, however, can wear them forever.
I would never do mum-jeans or true skinnies for example, as find both styles most unflattering on pretty much anyone. Love slim leg and have some reasonably high waisted jeans that look good on me, so not completely ' old fashioned '🙄.
My philosophy consists of a nod to 'current' colour or a small detail that can be cheaply acquired from High Street to bring outfit to date, but the foundation of my wardrobe enhances my figure and colouring and acts like a canvas for splashes of fun bits.

sunshineforest · 18/04/2022 08:53

Having suggested Cos I do agree with pp that quality is really going down. I saw a black top with a beautiful cut, bell sleeves, perfect neckline but it was 100% polyester and looked really crap because of that. Also all the interesting prints they used to do have gone. Such a shame

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/04/2022 08:54

I’ve had some gems from Crew Clothing in the last couple of years. There’s a lot of patterned stuff, I’ve had several nice plan cotton shirts, tunics, T shirts, cashmere jumper. The colour palmette tends to be quite pastel-y, but that suits me fine!

TottersBlankly · 18/04/2022 09:03

valerianaofficiana

But where do you shop?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 09:12

@TottersBlankly

valerianaofficiana

But where do you shop?

Quite.

You sound rather self satisfied too. Do let us here mortals in on the secrets of your nods and splashes. 🤔

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 09:13

And us mere mortals too. Stupid fucking kindle.

valerianaofficiana · 18/04/2022 09:25

Very satisfied with my choices, thank you 🙄.
Trousers and skirts are from Gucci, Joseph and Dolce & Gabbana as the cut suits my figure.
Jackets and coats from Dior, Max Mara and Ralph Lauren for above reasons.
Dresses D&G again and Laurel.
Other stuff from whatever takes my fancy.

valerianaofficiana · 18/04/2022 09:28

As for you, mere mortal Remus🙄, my 'splashes' come from random places, often from H&M and Zara.
I hope I have successfully proven my 'self-satisfied twat' credentials?😵‍💫

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 09:33

Well I didn't say twat, but yes.

Floisme · 18/04/2022 09:33

Well that's disappointing, I thought you might be a genuinely alternative dresser,

valerianaofficiana · 18/04/2022 09:50

Where have I given impression that I am alternative dresser, quite opposite of that.
Greatly admire the true fashionistas and I mean people who are brave and adventurous with clothes, who know quality and can carry off their alternative choices!
I'm quite boring and conservative but it works for me and makes me feel great.
