What do I do with this awful overpriced haircut?!

So gutted - I treated myself to a cut & blow dry with a senior stylist for £90 (the most I've ever spent at a hairdresser) but I've come away with the worst haircut I've ever had. This pic is before and after (colour hasn't changed - just different lighting): he trimmed a couple of inches off the bottom, which was fine, but instead of the fringe I asked for, he told me my thin hair wouldn't take it and instead cut random short choppy bits at the front Shock It all looked reasonable enough after a fancy blow-dry but a total mess in the cold light of day! Any advice on how to deal with this? I'm torn between just leaving it to grow or going back to complain but risking it being made worse. What could even be done now that the front bits are so short and a fringe is apparently out of the question? Help!

It looks fine to me. Ot just looks, sorry to say this, like you've not done a very good job at blow drying it and brushing it. Its all frizzy. Use a big barrelled round thermal brush

Abaababa · 14/04/2022 23:07

I have to agree, it looks weird, and not in a hipster way ;)

Would ring the salon asap and explain you aren’t happy with the outcome, your wishes weren’t respected, you and would like another stylist to fix it.

ElenaSt · 14/04/2022 23:08

I think the hairdresser wanted to make your hair look like this but their skills weren’t up to it.

Can’t tell until you wash it. Don’t freak out until then

ElenaSt · 14/04/2022 23:09

You could have someone more professional cut it again to look like this but the chances are you won’t have to find someone and it will cost you even more money so you probably are better off letting it grow and trying different ways of styling it.

I like it. What am I missing?

hairdisaster22 · 14/04/2022 23:22

@ElenaSt that is the hair I want!

Admittedly my hair isn't great to work with - it's fine, frizzy and thinning - so the stylist's options were probably limited, but I've had WAY better haircuts from trainees in the past so I don't think a fringe is an impossible ask...

I have the babyliss brush in a drawer somewhere so will give that a go and see if it helps!

Do you use conditioner? If you do don’t overdo it and only use sparingly on the ends.

ZenNudist · 14/04/2022 23:32

It's OK. I preferred it before but the shaping at the front is nice. Get an air styler and blow dry it. Dead cheap Remington one, as good as a Dyson airwave.

I think you'd look better with the length cut away and graduated front section down to a mid length / bob cut.

Get a hot tools - changed my life!

curlymom · 14/04/2022 23:40

Go back and tell him to fix it!

SadLittleLife · 14/04/2022 23:46

I would go back to salon after paying that much. Your hair is a lovely colour but there's too much difference between the length and layering and it needs blending more. If your hair is thin this has highlighted it more.
It will take ages to grow out.
Go back with a picture of what you wanted.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/04/2022 23:50

I'd go back and if want a refund,I wouldn't trust him to correct it. It's like he's done half a hair cut and not blended it in properly.

SquirrelG · 14/04/2022 23:56

I like it.

hairdisaster22 · 14/04/2022 23:56

Yes, I don't particularly want to let the same stylist near my hair again! I'll ask the salon for either a refund or someone else to sort it out. It makes me angry every time I pass a mirror atm so I think I need to do something!

Google - ‘how to style curtain bangs’ and there should be loads videos with different techniques.
I had mine cut very similar and it does take a bit of extra effort to make it look nice. But it’ll be fab once you get the hang of it.

artisanbread · 15/04/2022 00:35

I gave my own hair a trim, cut too much off the front and ended up looking a bit similar! I am too embarrassed to see my hairdresser until it's grown out a bit Grin. I've found straightening it and directing the front pieces away from my face helps a lot. Or you could go back and ask for more off the overall length so it doesn't look so dramatic.

artisanbread · 15/04/2022 00:36

Having said that, I don't think it looks bad , that kind of style is quite on trend. It does take more fussing about with than your previous style though and is a bit of a shock when you're not used to it.

Goldfishjones · 15/04/2022 07:04

I didn't realise hair could be too thin for a fringe??? Oh, it's so awful paying for a haircut and not getting what you want. Can't advise but just wanted to say that 1) I do know how you feel (been there) and 2) you have a lovely colour and texture to your hair!

pilates · 15/04/2022 07:18

Am I missing something they both look the same to me 😳

Imabouttoexplode · 15/04/2022 07:42

I think it looks lovely. It far from awful. Plus, you're young.....everything looks good on the young!!

hellokittyhello · 15/04/2022 09:17

It's still lovely hair. I would get a refund and grow it out. When the bits he has cut are a few inches longer it will blend in more.

5128gap · 15/04/2022 09:31

@Minoloso

I really like it, it looks more tousled and a bit french.
Thought it was just me, I like it too! Think the problem is it probably does need styling and he should really have discussed how much time OP wanted to spend on it before hand, and shown her how to get the look he gave it. Personally I'd go back and ask him to demonstrate the styling technique he used as I think its got the potential to look great.
NotMeNoNo · 15/04/2022 09:40

I would go back and ask for it to either be sorted or for exact instructions on how to style it including products. If it needs 30 minutes expert volumising blow drying and a ton of hairspray it won't really be practical, but maybe a Big Hair styler or something might help?
Precise instructions like "take this section and curl it forwards round a brush/ the back can just be dried straight and flicked out " etc

CorsicaDreaming · 15/04/2022 10:37

It looks lovely hair. Really glossy and beautiful natural colour. V envious!

It needs softening a bit I think. I'd be tempted to ask for a different stylist at salon and it should be free. I had this once and they were really keen to sort it and I was happy with the final result. And mine looked a right state before!
It is surprising how little actual hair needs to be cut off to have a big impact of softening it and blending in.

I'm tempted to get one of those Babyliss big hair brushes now...
