What beauty treatments have you found a waste of time?

Is there anything you have found a waste of time/money? I personally love the relaxation element of facials but find I can do them myself at home at a fraction of the cost. What have you had done that you wouldn't try again or just found didn't help your skin?

micro needling. Hurt, red faced for a couple of days and skin looks and feels no bloody different. Waste of money.

FlummoxedFlowerpot · 08/04/2022 18:29

That's good to know @Comeback25, my beauty therapist has been trying to persuade me that it's a miracle cure for ageing skin.

bucksfizzrock · 08/04/2022 18:32

@Comeback25 also know a few others that had microneedling and they found it didn't help them at all and was pretty expensive too

Brow lamination.
It looks great the day I had it done and the day after.
Then the tint seem to wear off after a couple of days (always happens when I tint my eyebrows) and they seemed back to their normal shape.

Everything. Accept who you are, how you are.

Love micro needling.

I’m not a fan of massages unless they’re being done by someone who really knows what they’re doing and isn’t afraid to get right in there.

Beauty therapists who did a term on it during training can do one. Do not stroke me.

I had a series of wraps to firm my skin about 15 years ago (when I was 22, WTF). They alternated between hot and cold, in the series of 8 wraps. The hot was relaxing (if sweaty), the cold was torture.

They made zero difference to my size 10 body, and cost 400 Euros.

Dermaplaning - it was awful for my skin

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/04/2022 20:26

I would say cut to the chase. See a dermatologist rather than have facials. A podiatrist rather than having ineffective pedicures.

Do your research on topical ingredients that work.

MrsPerfect12 · 08/04/2022 20:32

@Comeback25 that's unusual, I've had scarring that's vanished with micro needling.

bluejelly · 08/04/2022 20:56

Facials feel nice but have had zero results in my experience

SecretVictoria · 08/04/2022 20:59

Dermaplanning; made zero difference. I found threading much more effective at removing unwanted hair.

PlainJaneEyre · 09/04/2022 01:05

Olaplex

madmomma · 09/04/2022 01:15

Facials. Waste of money.

IchBinAnnaOfCleves · 09/04/2022 06:33

Microblading. Expensive, painful and my eyebrows are too oily for the ink to hold. Looked fab for a few months but I won’t have it done again.

DealWithTheDevilAtTheCrossroad · 09/04/2022 06:35

Yes, facials are relaxing and enjoyable but not much benefit otherwise

MiddleParking · 09/04/2022 06:47

LVL lashes do nothing for me at all, annoyingly. Also agree with PP that a strokey massage is unbearable.

Innocenta · 09/04/2022 08:27

Briogeo hair mask. Really hurt my scalp!

PermanentTemporary · 09/04/2022 08:30

I thought facials were useless when I was in my 30s but at 52 I had one a few months ago and looked so much better, I had compliments for about a week. Iwoukd definitely have one for a big occasion now. Essentially beauty treatments are for the old Grin

Coord · 09/04/2022 08:32

I've always found facials pointless.

On the other hand the best things I've done are dermaplaning (do it myself), laser hair removal on legs, and photorejuvenation to face (to remove pigmentation). I prefer things that are either very cheap or very longlasting (sadly you don't often get a combination of the two).

Had an Elemis facial before my wedding and it was ok, woman who did it was great etc but if you want an effective facial it needs to be a CACI facial really.

Yet I could never see the difference after a course of CACI treatments
Roseglen84 · 09/04/2022 09:59

I had ultherapy a few years ago - painful, expensive and I didn't really see a difference.
Also had two sessions of microneedling on my chin where there was some mild acne scarring. I didn't see a difference, and I was told it would take at least 6 - 8 sessions to notice anything, which at about 200 quid a pop was not going to happen.
Interestingly, a few months later I got a 10% AHA exfoliator from Paula's Choice, and after a week or so of using it, my skin around that area was smoother than it had ever been.

I firmly believe that your day to day skincare is more effective over the long term (retinol, spf etc.) than most salon treatments - fillers and botox have more of an obvious effect, but the rest are hit and miss.

A bit like diet and exercise - if you eat well and workout regularly it's far better than doing nothing for months and then having a big gym session and expecting it to work miracles. But I suppose we always want the quick fix.

FlummoxedFlowerpot · 09/04/2022 11:29

What about Profhilo? I've heard mixed reports, I wonder if it's down to the skill of the practitioner.

NotquitewhatImeant · 09/04/2022 11:33

Profhilo did nothing for me annoyingly @FlummoxedFlowerpot - I really wanted it to work but I just had lumps for a week and the same dehydrated skin
