I think you need to change your thinking. Would you describe someone else so negatively? Try using words like rounded, womanly, statuesque. Try thinking of yourself as a whole person, vibrant , grounded, adventurous? rather than as a collection of body parts.
Ask who you are judging yourself against, and if that is necessary. I don’t know you from Adam, but I do know that I would not be thinking any of those words if I met you. I’m sure you are wonderful, also , wtf are hipdips?

Loopytiles · 08/04/2022 18:35

‘Hip dips’ is misogynistic internet shite. Your language about yourself is v sexist!

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 08/04/2022 18:43

I’ve started calling myself voluptuous, more like a Reubens woman and oddly it really helps! I don’t think I will ever be a size 14 again (medical condition and medications) but bugger it, life’s too short to still be fretting away when I need to crack on with living!
A friend suddenly dropped dead a few weeks ago and it’s shown me just how unpredictable life is.
For what it’s worth I am 68, size 16-18, 5’6” and silver haired. Hearing aids and glasses are permanent accessories 🙃

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 08/04/2022 18:45

P.S I’ve never heard of ‘hipdips’ either!

Kittykat93 · 08/04/2022 18:49

So called hip dips weren't even a thing before all this Instagram model fitness bullshit. Same as it didn't used to be a bad thing to have a small bum, now apparently it is, and women are undergoing dangerous surgeries and squatting 3000 times a day to try and get a big arse so they can be desirable. In reality, not many of us have a flat stomach, big bum and small waist, as that is quite a rare natural figure.

It's all bollocks

I have a wobbly tummy, it will never be flat, I've tried. The one thing that is flat is my arse :) and you know what that's just my body shape. And that's okay. I try to be as healthy as I can but I no longer feel depressed that I don't look like the perfect model.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 08/04/2022 18:55

Hip dips is a new term but not related to size at all - they're down to the muscular skeletal structure so that's just way we're made.

Why are you feeling so down about yourself at the moment op?

Antarcticant · 08/04/2022 18:55

Just googled 'hip dips'.

That would be 'normal hips' then Hmm

Please pay no attention to this misogynistic rubbish, OP. There is no such thing as the perfect body.

If you give an idea of the sort of clothes and style you like, I am sure the knowledgeable people here will be able to suggest clothes that you'll look great in.

Me neither! I've just had to Google and I've definitely got some big dips going on, I never knew they had a name! 😄
RaininSummer · 08/04/2022 19:11

Well who knew ..hips dips and side booty. Had to google. I feel sorry for young women.

Sux2buthen · 08/04/2022 19:13

I'm following and with you OP in case any actual styling advice appears.

bellac11 · 08/04/2022 19:19

Never heard of hip dips, how strange. Luckily my stomach is so massive I cant see my hips from looking down, so all is well

Is it?!
I honestly had no idea.
And I am very much a feminist, I’ve just always heard of them being called that 🤷‍♀️
What are the origins behind it?

Yes quite.

I appear to have completely inadvertently caused much outrage with my terminology.
I had no idea ‘Hip Dips’ was an offensive term at all.

I literally just posted hoping for advice on how to style my body which is unfortunately despite the suggestions of ‘womanly’ and ‘curvaceous’ and all that exactly how I described; huge sticking out stomach, breasts that sag (I cannot wear a bra for health reasons) and bizarrely shaped hips with a very noticeable and extreme indentation that makes most dresses/skirts/trousers look quite odd and very unattractive.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 08/04/2022 19:50

Ah op don't feel bad, at least we all knew what you meant!

I find being choosy with underwear helps smooth out dresses over hips. High leg knickers are your friends. Buy a size up so they rest against your skin rather than cling/dig in.

Slips/shape wear will also help.

Can you use bustiers or stick on bras to help support your breasts?

Really though, you need to stop being so hard on yourself. You language about your body is very harsh, and alright we've probably all been there, but others opinions of your body (if they have any at all) would be so much more positive than your own! The only thing you're achieving in focusing on your perceived flaws is to make yourself unhappy and that will affect the way you carry yourself and the image you present to the world.

We all have hip dips, we have tummies and we have all breasts that at some point stop being pert. None of these things make anyone unattractive. Flowers

DomingoinLittleOakley · 08/04/2022 19:51

OP - if you are on Facebook or Instagram and find James Smith PT and look for his video on Hip Dip Bullshit.
It's very informative.

CompassPoint · 08/04/2022 19:51

I had to google hip dips too, looking at pictures, isn't that just what you get if your knickers are too tight? So perhaps size up in knickers, or buy ones with a wider top band bit?

Beyond that I'm not really sure, I agree with PPs that you need to be more gentle on yourself though.

I wasn't outraged op, was trying to improve your confidence and stop you feeling shit about not having the 'perfect' body. 👍

WildOnce · 08/04/2022 19:58

I also have hipdips! I didn’t know that’s what they were called but I have ‘em big time as I have really wide hips. I find high waisted jeans with no stretch smooths them out and focuses the attention on my waist rather than the width of my hips which seems counter intuitive but works.

I will agree with other posters though and say this is the latest bullshit ‘body problem’ that is being used to beat women with. It was cellulite, bingo wings, the thigh gap blah blah blah. I don’t think I could reel off a list of male body ‘problems’ with these ridiculous names.

WildOnce · 08/04/2022 20:00

I also have bit boobs which are not quite as they were since breastfeeding two kids. To be honest I’d be totally screwed without a bra. I can’t think what to suggest here - a supportive vest? I have a sucky in one from contrive which has some boob support too which does an ok job.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 08/04/2022 20:04

You could try dresses with a raised waist, v-neckline and a wrap bodice - helps to support your bosoms and elongate your neck. Choose something with a skirt that skims your hips rather than clings too tightly. If you can wear a soft bralette rather than a bra, it would help give shape and support (M&S do some good ones, like little vest tops). I've linked a couple of dresses in the style I mentioned . direct.asda.com/george/women/dresses/in-the-style-jac-jossa-blue-floral-wrap-dress/GEM935508,default,pd.htmlcgid=D1M1G20C1

Literally this!😂

I’ve never heard of ‘hip dips’ being called misogynistic at all. I didn’t think there was another term for them unless I’m mistaken?

@HotnSunnyRainbowRoses I personally love hip dips on women (don’t have them myself) as I think they’re so nice but ofc if you don’t like them on yourself then that’s totally understandable.

It depends what sort of help you’re looking for? Are you looking to loose weight and get a flatter stomach? Or are you looking for ways to embrace your body and feel confident with what you have?

nzeire · 08/04/2022 20:17

Can you wear a supportive vest top?

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 08/04/2022 20:29

Hip dips used to be know as ‘dancers hips’ and were coveted.
