HELP! I need a foundation for my dry, dry lizard skin

allfurcoatnoknickers · 04/04/2022 21:51

I have really dry skin - I moisturize religiously and drink gallons of water, but I am still so dry, especially in the winter.

I used to love Becca's aqualuminous foundation, but since it got discontinued, I haven't been able to find anything that works for me. I am willing to throw some serious money at the problem Grin.

I'm looking for: Sheer coverage, moisturizing/not drying, available in yellow undertones because not only am I dry, I am sallow.

So far I've tried Nars Sheer Glow and Mac Waterweight and they both either dry me out or just sit, cakily on my skin and that's with a moisturizing primer.

Any suggestions?

I’ve got similar skin (apart from the yellow undertones) and I’ve just bought Clinique Even Better glow. It’s sheer, moisturising and seems good so far…….,

belimoo · 04/04/2022 22:19

I also have lizard skin and use Clinique dramatically different moisturiser followed by Clinique even better glow. Unbelievably I have no dry patches of skin following this (despite a slack skincare routine).

eyeoresancerre · 04/04/2022 22:27

I'm on my second bottle of this foundation - not cheap but my lizard skin likes it. Sheer but buildable coverage for my middle aged skin. I've attached pic.

I have mega dry skin and eczema if I deviate at all from this routine , and have to use: Clinique dramatically diff moisturiser, Eucerin non fragrance super rich cream on extra dry patches then just a quick buff in of The Ordinary serum foundation using a very soft bristle foundation brush

stayathomer · 04/04/2022 23:00

I use glossier primer and Rimmel foundation (wake me up or perfect match) and it does the job. I'd also recommend bb creams as you get that moisturising element- my best are clinique, clarins and no 7. I'd stay away from rimmel and Estee lauder, both cake horrendously! Ps skin routine is moisturiser avene skin recovery cream and cleanser is cetaphil gentle wash. I wear roche posay spf daily

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/04/2022 03:02

Thanks all! So lots of votes for Clinique then. I'll have to pop down to a counter and try some out...

I'm so dry it's awful. I look great in the summer and spend the whole winter looking scaly and crone-like. I want some glow!

Oh, Nars "Sheer Glow" is awful- I bought some a couple of years ago after reading people raving about it on here. It's neither sheer or glowy. Just flat and dull.

I have the Bobbi Brown one linked to above and it's nice and moisturising. I'm not a huge fan tbh as I find the consistency a bit gloopy. Boots N7 do a serum foundation which is nice but not much coverage. The new Estée Lauder Doublewear Sheer is a lovely smooth liquid foundation (don't be put off by the Doublewear name- imo it shouldn't have it as it's nothing like the cakey DW)

Agree with others though, it's probably your skincare that needs a boost of hydration. What moisturizer do you use? Cleanser?

isthismylifenow · 05/04/2022 06:09

I have been using Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish and I won't change. It definitely gives a nice glow and doesn't highlight dryness. And the shade I have is an exact match as they have such a good range.

I still have some Double Wear and tried that a while back and my goodness I looked dreadful. And the shade isn't right for me now after having a proper match with EA.

I did also get a tester of the new DW Sheer and I really did not like it. It had hardly any coverage so I ended up putting so much on.

eyeoresancerre · 05/04/2022 07:41

@PAFMO - that's why I love the BB foundation - the gloopiness sticks my dry skin bits together. Yuk!Grin

EA is great. I used to adore their "dippy pot" foundation, a lovely smooth cream. I'm going to investigate flawless finish now. (Can recommend the Visible Difference moisturizer as well, got huge jar from Look Fantastic or somewhere and it's a really good all-rounder with ingredients that Lancome/Lauder/Clinique would charge you £50 for. I paid £17 for the EA.
allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/04/2022 13:23

@PAFMO Super helpful! I would have run a mile at the sight of DoubleWear, but I might see if I can blag a sample of this one.

I feel like I was conned by Nars sheer glow. So drying, so patchy after about 20 minutes Angry

Estée Lauder futurist is lovely. Really dewy

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/04/2022 16:35

RIGHT. I bought the Bobbi Brown serum foundation and an overpriced CC cream. We'll see how I get on.

Currently shriveling up in a conference room in my office which is drier than the Sahara.

I have dry skin . Revlon colorstay £12.99 also usually on offer. LOADS of shades I'm whiter than white and it's great!.

They do a dry /normal skin one that doesn't cake. Or they do a combination/oily one so make sure you get the dry skin one If you try it X

lms2017 · 05/04/2022 16:39

Also to add I have spent hundreds if not thousands over the years on foundations and always go back to Revlon colorstay . It never breaks me out either and if I fall asleep in it (I have severe migraines ) then the next day I look decent and could go out if I chose in an emergency and look ok !

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 05/04/2022 16:48

I have never been able to wear foundation. My skin doesn't look dry, however if I put foundation on, it just goes all flaky.

I swear by Rimmel Hide the Blemish. It comes in a stick (looks like a lipstick). Just roll it over any imperfections, It's so creamy and the coverage is amazing (I have very red cheeks, which it covers). It's only about £5, so well worth a try. I use Golden Beige, which is very hard to get - Boots and most chemists do not stock this shade, so I get it on Amazon.

desperatehousewife21 · 05/04/2022 18:48

I have mega dry skin too.

I use Nars tinted moisturiser (which also has spf 30) and doesn’t go cakey at all.

I’ve added Clinique even better glow and Revlon colorstay to my shopping list to try!

QuebecBagnet · 05/04/2022 18:53

No 7 hydrolouminous or whatever it’s called

Phormiumjester2 · 05/04/2022 18:59

I know this isn't what you asked but my lizard face is infinitely better with regular use of a glycolic toner and I can reliably use foundation more than I could before I got into that routine.

What I can say is don't try IT because it seems to have changed formula and L'Oréal colour match is grim

Bare Minerals serum one is nice. As is Laura Geller balance & brighten. I was sceptical with it being a powder but I tried my mum's and it worked a treat.

muppamup · 05/04/2022 19:01

you definitely need to use toner, I like alcohol free (make my own with rosewater and glycerine - mix, that's it!), apply to skin after cleansing and before moisturising (spray on or splash on), while skin is still damp - moisturise! will get rid of your dry skin, because it helps hold the moisture in (you need the wetness of the toner as well as the glycerine (humectant) with the moisturiser to do this). really works!

I second Clinique Even Better Glow. Do you find its getting expensive now though? I must admit it does last a long time. I'm tempted to try the Clinique moisturiser too but again worry about the expense, do you think its worth the cost? I also like No7 hydraluminous which is cheaper by far but I still prefer Clinique as it covers more.
desperatehousewife21 · 05/04/2022 21:20

Added bonus can get Clinique on ASOS!

Cheermonger · 05/04/2022 21:23

Yet another for Clinique even better glow. It’s great

So, I don't use toner, but I do use facial spray before I moisturise. Is that the same? Or does it specifically need to be toner?

I seem to be fine for about 10 minutes, but any time outside and a day in the office and I am reptilian again.

Mac studio fix foundation.

It's the best foundation for me and is amazing on my dry skin.
