HELP! I need a foundation for my dry, dry lizard skin

I have really dry skin - I moisturize religiously and drink gallons of water, but I am still so dry, especially in the winter.

I used to love Becca's aqualuminous foundation, but since it got discontinued, I haven't been able to find anything that works for me. I am willing to throw some serious money at the problem Grin.

I'm looking for: Sheer coverage, moisturizing/not drying, available in yellow undertones because not only am I dry, I am sallow.

So far I've tried Nars Sheer Glow and Mac Waterweight and they both either dry me out or just sit, cakily on my skin and that's with a moisturizing primer.

Any suggestions?

Try adding a couple of drops of facial oil to the foundation and then applying.

Works wonders for dryness.

I have extremely dry skin, and the only foundation I can use is Clinique's Superpowder Double Face Makeup. It is a pressed powder compact, and doesn't come in that many shades, but seems to really suit yellow undertones, I use the matte honey shade.

It is also the only foundation I have ever used which covers well but still looks sheer and natural, and lasts all day, no matter if its 45 degree heat and humidity in Thailand, or -45 degrees in Norway with icy winds.

Its so quick and easy to apply, always looks perfect and natural, and never dries out my skin, no matter how long I wear it for. It never cakes or flakes, just stays in place even without setting spray. Over the years I've tried so many other foundations, but always go back to it as nothing else compares. I was v v skeptical about using a powder foundation with my lizard skin, but its a miraculous product.

@MrOllivander

Estée Lauder futurist is lovely. Really dewy
I was going to say the same. I think the shades are really well thought out too

Are you exfoliating enough OP? I find my dry skin can look worse when I'm not keeping up with either physically exfoliating ( buffing with flannel when cleansing) or using acids ( AlphaH a couple of times a week.)

I find my skin, which is also dry, accepts oils much better once the loose skin has gone.

PAFMO · 06/04/2022 06:02

The Futurist looks wonderful.
I happen to be passing through 2 airports over the next 3 days, very tempted...

OP- there are different kinds of toners:

The traditional wipe your last traces of make up off, the ones we were always told to include in a cleanse-tone-moisturise routine- these aren't considered essential really by skincare experts, especially if you've used a hot cloth/double cleansed. I still like one. Some are hydrating.

The other type are acid toners and are a big buzzword in skincare, though have been around for years (Clinique 3 step system toner is an acid toner and had been around for at least 30 years) They've replaced those gritty scrubs we all used to rip our faces off with. Grin They work in the same way and exfoliate, but more gently than a scrub. (don't be put off by the word acid) Glycolic acid is good for dry skin as it resurfaces, while salicylic is good for blemishes as it penetrates the top layer of skin better to get the gunk out. Everyone makes them now. Pixi is a well known one but Superdrug, Aldi etc all do dupes with exactly the same ingredients. I also like Olay anti wrinkle toner, which is also an acid toner and cheap as chips.

I had some glycolic acid toner knocking around from when I used to use it religiously then lockdown kicked off and I never really went outside so stopped using it.
Used it this morning after my shower , then moisturised , then put on bb cream and it’s so smooth and not dry! Will see what it’s like later after work to see if it holds up.

Yes!!!

For me it's the hero product. And cheap stuff from Aldi is just as good. It's the right exfoliation thing for my skin.

www.rmsbeauty.com/
Rms uses coconut oil, it is very moisturising and has good tones for sallow skin.

muppamup · 06/04/2022 12:50

@allfurcoatnoknickers - I'm not sure what your facial spray has in it, but the spray I make (glycerine / rosewater only) has a humectant in it (glycerine). This helps the skin retain moisture. That is why I use it. It must be used before and with the moisturiser. Maybe give it a try. Could be the ingredients in your facial spray are not right. So simple to make (about 2/3 rosewater to 1/3 vegetable glycerine). I buy the glycerine from boots and the rosewater can be from any supermarket.

muppamup · 06/04/2022 12:57

PS in case I am not being clear, my toner IS the glycerine / rosewater spray I make. (I don't use a separate toner). Just spray on before moisturising.

If you want a more moisturising spray add a little more glycerine to the mix. See what the spray feels like - if it's too watery it may need a bit more glycerine.

Shake then use!

I have dry skin
Combined with less cell.turnover due to age. I now use good genes to re surface skin .. its costly but good .it really helps shift old skin in my view!
