Why is my foundation doing this?!

Weird pic of my nose attached! This is after a few hours wear but it's pretty much like that when it's applied. It's expensive foundation, I'm moisturised and with primer....help!

Why is my foundation doing this?!
OP posts:

Sometimes foundation does this to me. One of the make up artists in bobbi brown said it’s dead skin and to exfoliate more.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 04/04/2022 21:39

Can't really tell from pic but do you need to exfoliate? Or perhaps skin got a bit oily?

duckie3 · 04/04/2022 21:39

Im not sure if it's the same problem but whenever I didn't let my moisturiser set into my skin for a good few minutes, this happened to me too. Especially around the top of my nose and forehead area. How long do you leave your moisturiser and primer on before applying foundation? Maybe try letting your moisturiser sink in a little more before applying?

QuebecBagnet · 04/04/2022 21:41

Ahh, pressed too soon. But I’m not sure as one foundation can be ok and others not. I did read about how some foundations will react with some primers and moisturisers. www.myimperfectlife.com/features/foundation-pilling

Sprucewillis · 04/04/2022 22:12

Mine does this. Watching for advice Thanks

MerylSqueak · 04/04/2022 22:18

Mine used to do this and doesn't any more. The things I changed were:

Letting any moisturizer/ SPF sink in really well ( I put it on, go and do my breakfast and packed lunch the do my makeup).

Use much less foundation and touch up with a little concealer

Use a much lighter formulation foundation (approximating a CC formulation as was)

thesnaleandthewhail · 04/04/2022 22:21

Oily skin I think, and probably too many products on it. Could defo do with some exfoliation too, light acids and/or retinoids. Some foundations don't work for your skin, its trial and error

pumpkinmash · 04/04/2022 22:22

Is it pilling? Like you could roll balls of it off your face?

If so it's caused by too many layers. Either you need to drop something from your skincare or use lighter products that absorb more easily or use less/wait longer.

Blaenwgwynfi · 04/04/2022 22:29

I had this until recently.

I’d say you might need to exfoliate your skin, as it could just be dead skin.

Alternatively, you might just need to blend more. I used to only blend for about a minute, I now use my beauty blender and blend for about 5 minutes to really get my skin to absorb it. I then use some setting spray - nothing expensive, I just use BarryM.

MrsPerfect12 · 04/04/2022 22:43

Pat the foundation into your face.
I get this when my face is oily. So don't brush or sponge across Patting very gently let it dry and then go over again.

PAFMO · 05/04/2022 06:23

Dehydrated skin which is flaking off. (Oily can also need moisture)
Try a chemical exfoliant (like an acid toner) and a thicker moisturizer.

WhyOfCourse · 05/04/2022 06:26

I think it depends on what primer and foundation you are using, like PP said.

User76745333 · 05/04/2022 07:12

Too much product. Skip the moisturiser

KeepThinking · 05/04/2022 07:20

I had this due to using a silicone primer/moisturiser with a water based foundation. Oil and water don’t mix. If one is silicone based they both need to be silicone based, or if one is water based they both need to be water based.

KeepThinking · 05/04/2022 07:23

😱 don’t skip moisturiser! Change it if needed but don’t skip it. (You could skip primer though if you wanted to reduce the number of products.)
User76745333 · 05/04/2022 07:28

Why not skip moisturiser? I never moisturise in the morning. I cleanse, use liquid gold and then go straight to foundation or primer and foundation if I need to know it will last for a bit longer.

I moisturise at night.

Everyone’s skin is different and if the foundation is doing that it’s because of a build up of products on the skin

RockStarMartini · 05/04/2022 07:30

Watching with interest, mine does exactly this too.

Inklingpot · 05/04/2022 07:37

This.

I changed my moisturiser recently and I’ve found that it reacts with my primer and foundation, causing pilling and the same issue as the OP.

Exfoliating, leaving moisturiser to soak in and not using too much of all products helps too as they create a layer on your skin.

Mostly because it’s the main/only source of SPF for many people. But like you say everyone’s skin is different and if you have a routine that works for you than that’s fine.
mamabr · 05/04/2022 08:00

Don't moisturize and prime straight away. My primer is actually an oil, so it doesn't make your face feel weird or tight.

Also don't forget to exfoliate your face, at least twice a week.

Does your face get sweaty? Maybe need to change your foundation to one that's more suitable. And there's no harm in trying a setting spray or powder lightly over your foundation (if you don't already)

mamabr · 05/04/2022 08:01

@KeepThinking

There's lots of foundations now that contain SPF

ApolloandDaphne · 05/04/2022 08:06

That was happening to me and nothing I did made it go away. I now use Clarins BB skin detox cream. It is lighter coverage but it doesn't sit on my pores like foundation did.

VerityPJohnson · 05/04/2022 09:02

Do you exfoliate with a manual or chemical product? I would be trying that first. Also suggest an SPF needs fitting in.

If that doesn’t help I’d be looking for a new foundation.

Floydthebarber · 05/04/2022 09:07

Silicone in the primer causing the piling possibly.

But you need to add a spf in now the uv is getting stronger again. No point spending money on skincare and good foundation if you are not protecting your skin from damage and aging with a sunscreen.

HellToTheNope · 05/04/2022 09:10

It's the primer. Ditch it.
