Why is my foundation doing this?!

Weird pic of my nose attached! This is after a few hours wear but it's pretty much like that when it's applied. It's expensive foundation, I'm moisturised and with primer....help!

Why is my foundation doing this?!

It's not pilling. Pilling looks different.
Definitely don't ditch the moisturizer- if anything increase it to a richer one- you can see the skin is dry and dehydrated (though it can also be oily but that's not evident from the pic) If the foundation is oil free then maybe change that to a more hydrating one.

There's lots of foundations now that contain SPF [/quote]
They don't contain anywhere near enough. You would have to apply a lot of foundation - think how much spf you need on your face! I use three finger lengths for SPF

HellToTheNope · 05/04/2022 09:32

Is it a matte foundation, op?

Iknowthis1 · 05/04/2022 10:27

The products you're using don't mix. The products are water based, oil based or silicone based. If you layer products of different bases over either other they separate. It's like trying to put a water based paint over an oil based paint. Google "how to stop foundation separating on your nose". There are lots of articles and you tube videos explaining how to fix it and what ingredients to look for.

TobyMory · 05/04/2022 10:30

Interesting about water and silicone not mixing. How do you know whether your products are water or silicone based? I actually stopped wearing foundation due to the issue above .

The bit about make up separating is 7 mins in to that first video Toby, so you'll have to forward a bit on that one.

ClaryFairchild · 05/04/2022 13:30

Skin ageing? I changed from using a foundation for oily skin to dry/normal and mine stopped doing that.

TootsieBootsie · 05/04/2022 18:07

Thanks for all the responses! Amazing advice. I use spf no 7 moisturiser and primer makes no difference as its the same with or without. This happens with full coverage foundation, I use Charlotte Tilbury light wander usually but I'm looking for a foundation with more coverage. I've tried Charlotte Tilbury airbrush flawless one and deliliah and estee lauder double wear and they all do it. I'm just wasting money on foundation 😒

How often should you exfoliate? (I'm nearly 40 and feel I should know this!).
All your advice is appreciated. I want a moisturiser with spf as I like knowing I've got protection and clinging on to the belief its helping me age at slightly less a pace ?!

That was happening to me and nothing I did made it go away. I now use Clarins BB skin detox cream. It is lighter coverage but it doesn't sit on my pores like foundation did.

I've just changed from the Clarins to Charlotte Tilbury foundation and the Clarins was far better at not showing pores and looking much nicer in general. The only reason I changed was lack of choice of shades. I just couldn't find one that matched. Such a shame as it's the nicest coverage ive found. If you can find a match OP I'd definitely recommend asking for a sample of it to try

winterchills · 05/04/2022 18:32

Mine does this too!! No matter what foundation or primer I use. Sooooo frustrating

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 05/04/2022 20:48

Active serums are thought best for exfoliation these days, so a retinol or AHA or similar. When my skin gets like this though I generally use a manual facial brush over the dry areas in the shower, with a sensitive cream cleanser.

Am wary of manual exfoliation but Sometimes it's needed, just go gently. Rosehip oil is a great moisturiser to follow (use in evening or you can get a slight yellow tinge visible in daylight).

Floydthebarber · 05/04/2022 21:09

I used an aha bha (I think) liquid exfoliant once or twice a week, a salicylic acid face wash once a week, or more when hormonal, and a tret every other day. Every now and then I use a glycolic scrub which leaves my face so soft and smooth. Its easy to exfoliate too often and then damage your skin. It's trial and error.

If you use an acid toner (chemical exfoliation, replaced gritty scrubs which can really damage skin) then build up slowly. Every other night or a couple of times a week to begin with. AHA- glycolic etc, good for dry skin BHA- salicylic, for blemish prone.
Floydthebarber · 06/04/2022 09:21

As PAFMO said, take it slowly with acids. I use a the gritty manual one once a month, if that. I last did after a had a bit of a cold and had lots of rough dry skin after. Sorted it out but it's so tempting to just scrub a little bit harder or do it again the next day just to see how smooth your skin can get! But don't!

How do you remove your make up? Using a face cloth gently is a really good way of getting rid of any dry patches if exfoliants dont suit you.

EssexLioness · 08/04/2022 19:56

I found mine used to do this too once I got into my 40s. I now use a little foundation mixed with moisturiser, but no primer underneath. This seems to have resolved it

BusterGonad · 09/04/2022 15:34

Mine would do this if I'm using the wrong type for my skin. Eg a matte foundation when I have dry skin. Also are you perhaps using too much foundation.

Sushi7 · 09/04/2022 15:36

You have to be careful about which primer you use with different foundations. Maybe matte heavy coverage foundations don’t work for you. I go for bb creams.

TootsieBootsie · 12/04/2022 22:18

It is only.the heavier full coverage foundation that it happens with.
I take make up off with a cleanser face wash, use toner and moisturise twice a day. All the initials of all the different acids and stuff confuses me!!!

I have just tried ilmakiage foundation and it seems to be working on, less dewey than CT light wander but a bit more coverage. So far so.good!
