Night creams

Can anyone recommend might creams?

I have normal/dry skin and feel like when I wake up in the morning my skin has sooked it all up and feels dry rather than soft. Also noticed a few more fine lines recently under the eyes that seem to have appeared over night!

Any recommendations would be gratefully received, happy to spend a wee bit more if its good.

Have gone through a few recently to try but don't seem to be that great for my skin: Superdrug, polaar nuit

I make my own face oil (use food grade oils like almond, avocado, grape seed) plus some Rosehip Oil & essential oils.
Then I put Nivea Q10 night cream over the top.

Paddingtonthebear · 02/04/2022 14:59

I’ve been using the M&S ultimate sleep cream which has been working pretty well

badkitty · 02/04/2022 15:00

I decided to try Skin+Me as they have a first month free offer. I was sceptical but it was only postage cost. I have kept it on as a subscription (so you get one per month personalised prescription cream which lasts for exactly a month). I have never ever found any cream make a difference but after nearly 2 months my skin is honestly the best it's been for years, I actually have a bit of a glow and am not having to wear nearly so much make up (not quite ready to go completely bare faced yet!).

jowly · 02/04/2022 15:00

I've used loads in the past but now I use Nivea creme on the dry bits and then Nivea soft everywhere. Just slather it on.

I then pay more attention (and pay more money) for day skin care.

Weleda Skin Food
Nivea blue pot.
Astral

Any of the L'Oréal/Garnier/Olay/Nivea ones. The No7 ones are excellent. You don't need to spend on moisturizer. Good ones contain ceramides. Very good ones also contain peptides. Glycerine is another ingredient to look out for.

I like the Nivea Q10 as well.

Neal's Yard Frankincense is fabulous if you like "natural".

TheZenOne22 · 02/04/2022 15:08

The best night cream I have used where I noticed a difference using a sample is the one from Oskia (it is on the pricey side but I bought a new one from a seller on EBay for almost half that cost). You can buy a sample for £1 from their website. It really made a difference to my skin.

hobbledyhoy · 02/04/2022 15:12

Thank you all, some great suggestions for me to try.

Getting some samples off eBay might be a plan, that way not shelling out for something that works the same as a standard priced brand.

I have mega dry skin too and found using a chemical exfoliant every other day made a bigger difference to my skin rather than the moisturiser so may be worth a shot if you haven't tried this already? I use Pixi Glow which is very gentle
hobbledyhoy · 02/04/2022 15:21

@NameChangeCity123

That's interesting, I haven't really used anything like that as I was worried it would dry my skin out more.

I got a glycolic acid cleanser thing from Superdrug as part of their range but I stopped using it as I thought my skin was actually looking worse.

I feel so confused by all these different acids and ingredients that people are using now, they all seem to come with warnings for sensitive skin or you need to build them up gradually. I'm frightened to use the wrong thing and my face melts off 😂

Whenever I am slightly dehydrated I like using Eucerin Hyaluronic Filler creams.
If you are looking for something a bit cheaper then Curel brand (available at Boots & Amazon) seems to be very popular right now and they are dedicated to dry/sensitive skin.

You might also consider buying hyaluronic acid serum - if you have no idea where to start the Ordinary can be good choice.

hobbledyhoy · 02/04/2022 15:28

@Epli
Thank you, I'm on boots as we speak - wading through the reviews!

Perhaps try an oil and then a moisturizer as well.

Tbh I don't buy day/night creams. I used Clarins for years and bought into the needing a day one, night one, neck one etc etc. I changed my routine now and started using a low strength retinol at night and I now use Neutrogena day and night.

I do still have the double serum oil so I do use that sometimes as well.

You really don't need to spend a lot. I wish I knew that many years ago after spending so much on high priced brand names.

I use Vitamin c in the morning followed by neutrogena (I use the hydro boost range)

Retinol at night (start off slow though if you do decide that route) with neutrogena again.

I'm in my 50s now and my skin is looker better than it has in years. And I don't pay a lot for skincare anymore.

Ponks · 02/04/2022 21:17

Lately I have been mixing a couple of drops of rosehip oil into my night moisturiser (No7 or Aldi) and it makes a big difference to how my skin feels in the morning.

dudsville · 02/04/2022 21:25

The end of my routine (balm cleanser, glycolic acid, Buffet, Hyaluronic acid, and a thick cream based moisturiser) is a final layer of EA8hr nightime balm. It's so soothing.

travailtotravel · 02/04/2022 21:39

I periodically go to bed with a thick mask of nivea blue and come out looking like a baby. Not quite but .. I have found Loreal Lavandin to be really good and soap and glory miracle thingy. Both cheaper end of the market!

WaitinginVain · 02/04/2022 22:05

I use Clinique Moisture Surge Intense at night and really happy with it.

Fairislefandango · 02/04/2022 22:10

I use Aldi night time facial oil (in the blue bottle) followed by Aldi Caviar night cream. My skin never feels dry when I wake up.

Vicliz24 · 02/04/2022 22:19

I use just avocado oil on my face at night and always wake up feeling moisturised.

bouncydog · 02/04/2022 22:26

I use body shop vitamin e range plus Nivea Q10. Cleanse in morning and evening wash off with cold water, bitof eye cream, Q10 serum at night and then vit e face cream in morning and Q10 night cream at night. Plus healthy diet - no meat - fresh air and a bit of walking. Skin won’t get a lot better as love the sun, but eye bags have disappeared and jawline looks better!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 02/04/2022 22:33

LRP cicaplast. Also dry skin here and nothing beats it.

hobbledyhoy · 02/04/2022 23:17

Excellent, thank you all. I have more to have a look at tomorrow.

Another vote for Neal’s Yard Frankincense cream.
This is worth a look - prickly pear seed oil as used by Nigella. It does work.

Word of warning about hyaluronic - if you have dry skin (I do) apply it to damp skin and slap a moisturiser on top very quickly! It works by sucking moisture out of its environment, so if you have dry skin and you use hyaluronic by itself it just sucks more moisture out of your skin. I couldn't work out why it made my skin feel so tight until I did some Googling and changed the way I used it.

The M&S ultimate sleep cream is good. I mostly use Sunday Riley's Luna night oil, it's very very moisturising (bit OTT unless you have dry skin probably).

SkippingLambs · 03/04/2022 11:58

I’m another M&S Ultimate Sleep Cream user - love it.

PAFMO · 03/04/2022 12:07

Hyaluronic always needs to be applied to damp skin or it has the opposite effect and you end up dry even if usually you aren't!
I'm after a new cream this week so am making a list of some of these!
