That old MN fave...the stylish waterproof jacket. Is this one??

I like it. But it says 'water repellent' . Does that mean its not waterproof?

I'm going to need it for the school run and a trip to paris in Feb. When it will be freezing and probably wet.

I've looked at Millets. Anyone got any of the ones on the website??

Or any other suggestions?

Thanks .

Shower-proof PU coated fabric to keep out the rain .

Also its only dry cleanable [can just imagine what it will look like a week down the line in the company of my ds!]

Fimbo · 07/01/2008 17:31

Cremola - I think you need to spend an hour or two searching TK Maxx.

princessmel · 07/01/2008 17:34

Definatly not traumatic or forceful.

I was doing the 'dont offer ' business but now I have refused her

I think if I fed her tonight she'd just start up again.

sorry, I should have phrased that better - I knew it wasn't traumatic or forceful - it was a rhetorical question

I meant "don't feel too bad, after all, you know it has not been traumatic or forceful for her"

Cremolasnowdome · 07/01/2008 17:37

Fimbo- yes funny enough that was going to be my next move.Might take a dash over there tomorrow. Honestly you would think it was a weird thing to want to be warm and dry at the same time.there is no shortage of big cuddley parkas/wool coats out there but they are not waterproof. Likewise you can get an anorak type thing but they are either bright yellow and red or have no fleecy lining.
I have been looking for years.
I bet i will see a hundred of the right thing when i get to Vienna.LOL sods law

princessmel · 07/01/2008 18:05

Ok

I feel confused now. Maybe I should let her feed tonight. It was only the last one at night. I didn't mind AT ALL. But now she's stopped it just seems that if I start again she will be confused. Like me Oh dear.

Dior yes I have a very stylish duffle coat

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 20:15

Oh mel I didn't mean to confuse you, I am sorry if i have said the wrong thing

I just feel sad when I hear about mothers stopping bf when they don't whole heartedly want to. I know there is such pressure from people like partners, parents and often it feels like the whole of society expecting and nagging us to give up something that is really good for us and our children to carry on with. I just try to even up the balance a bit by saying "you can carry on if you want to, and it would probably be nice for both of you if you do". I don't think you are doing or have done anything wrong if you want to stop now. You just sounded quite conflicted, to begin with.

princessmel · 07/01/2008 22:09

Thanks F and Z, I am glad I can talk to you about it. I feel you really get it.

She didn't mention it tonight, so that sorted out tonights 'feed or not to feed' problem.

I did get a lot of stick a while ago. When she was nearing 1 etc but then people stopped saying things. I think they just accepted it. I only fed her at bedtime (in the end) but in front of whoever was there. My parents, inlaws, sister etc.

I really wanted her to do this by herself. And I was happy at first as that was what happened. Maybe she was distracted with christmas and we were out a lot, late nights etc. and so that was why she didn't seem to want it. But since she's mentioned it a few times ,I feel bad.

Oh well. I know I've given her a good start and I'm happy with that but I don't want her to feel pushed away or hurt or confused.

cremola-If you need warmth and waterproof I'd recommend this from lands end

I have it in brown ,really warm.

brimfull · 07/01/2008 22:51

american site has much better photos

Cremolasnowdome · 07/01/2008 23:16

ggirl- thats a fab jacket.ihave it on my short list.i would prefer a longer coat i think. need to keep my bum unfrozen.also i like wearing dresses and tunic style things so i think it looks weird if you can see that below the jacket.

god i am fussy -sorry!

Cremolasnowdome · 07/01/2008 23:19

this is more like it but can't run to £109 at the moment

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 07/01/2008 23:26

I don't like hoods - anyone else think that it is very hard to find anything stylish with a hood.

And am I asking too much for something waterproof without a hood?

I like how this thread is carrying on in 2 different directions. It's so sad when you know you've given up b/feeding. I hope you feel less confused and happier with whichever decision you make PrincessMel.

brimfull · 07/01/2008 23:49

this is nice but £££ and not warm

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 08/01/2008 00:10

Oh yes, it's nice. I'm off to sell my kids on e-bay to pay for it. Do they sell a matching umbrella?

MrsBadger · 08/01/2008 06:05

margo - not esp warm but bargainous

morningglory · 08/01/2008 06:35

Belstaff make waterproof and very sylish coats, but a bit expensive (on sale now, though)

princessmel · 08/01/2008 10:34

Hi everyone

Thanks Margo, that kind of you to say.

I still can't decide what to do about the jackets.
I like the brown ggirl Lands End one. But it has no hood. And it would be too hot for rainy days in spring. I need one with a removeable fleece liner bit.

This search is going to go on and on
I suppose I'll just have to accept that you can't be dry and stylish.
I found this
www.millets.co.uk/Womens-Clothing/Jackets/Womens-Summit-Long-Line-J/product/041341.aspx

But its only showing that they have it in a 14. Plus they don't have any pics of someone wearing it to see what its like on.

I bought the la redoute one a while back....and I'd have to say that while it is very warm, fairly rainpoof (not been out in torrential rain in it) and very good value for money esp if you get the 30% off i did, I still hate wearing it! It feels like wearing a particularly unattractive sack! Maybe not helped that I live in London, it might feel okay in the country iykwim!

btw the sizing is very generous!

cardy · 08/01/2008 14:17

The North Face one has a removable fleece lining, it is VERY practical and stylish (ish).

I got one of those from Primark for about £6 anniemac.

princessmel · 08/01/2008 17:02

Is it waterproof?

Looks ok for a keep-in-the-boot thingy but I want a more of a coat option.

Nice style. If it was thicker, more substantial it would be great. And not pink!!
