Hello! Can't see a facial sunscreen thread recently so thought I'd start one.

Which sunscreens are you using this year and why?

The range seems to have improved a lot in the last couple of years thank goodness. I'm looking for a new one 🤞🏼

I'm currently using Obagi Sun Shield Tint SPF 50. I really really like it. It's a medical grade sun screen with a base of titanium dioxide and zinc. The tint is great on my skin and also works very well under my makeup. https://www.skinstation.co.uk/obagi-tinted-sun-shield-spf-50-cool-85g

Last year I was using Heliocare Gel SPF 50

*clicked post too soon. I switched from the Heliocare because I fog d it really pilled and balled up under my foundation. If you're not wearing makeup it's fine.

midnightbluevelvet · 28/03/2022 22:21

I’m using the La Roche Posay Anthelios 50+. It’s mattifying, which I love as my skin is quite oily and it’s a great base for makeup.

thesnaleandthewhail · 28/03/2022 22:22

Ooh that's interesting thanks. I have the heliocare and I don't mind it when it's very hot but it can be quite drying.

I have to wear a mineral one according to dermatologist… just tried Murad and hated it as too oily for me, but it is good quality so if you have dry skin and like a glow it would work.

Have gone back to jan marini which is matte and fab.

Also ordered a missha chemical one for layering underneath. Biore is getting very expensive and a lot of possible fakes.

thesnaleandthewhail · 28/03/2022 22:25

Excellent lots of new ones to try here! Is the anthelios not too shiny?

thesnaleandthewhail · 28/03/2022 22:28

Sorry I know you said it's mattifying, which one is it?

I'm using the Nivea Face SPF 50 mattifying one:

NIVEA UV Face Shine Control SPF50 (50ml), Face Sun Cream, UV Face Cream, Moisturising Cream with SPF50 for Daily Use, Sunscreen for Immediate UVA/UVB Protection https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BCTT9BS/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_WARVWC3AK717MNAMGEC3

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 28/03/2022 22:36

The Obagi one I mentioned is mattifying. I'm quite pale, and have always worn a full face of makeup to go out. But the tint on the Obagi one is really nice and matt. Gives me a lot of extra confidence with my skin which is weird because it's just a bit of tint but I love it

Laquila · 28/03/2022 22:37

I've been using the LRP Anthelios Age-Correct SPF50 as a moisturiser (i.e. with no separate product for moisturising) and I've just started to wonder whether actually it's just meant to be an SPF that you later on top of moisturiser. I usually use a serum or something under it, such as COSRX Snail Mucin, so it's hard to gauge how moisturising it is on its own. It doesn't break me out though so it's a win for me!

I usually love Bioré on holidays/warmer weather, or the Heliocare - prefer the former thougg.

I'm a big fan of The Altruist sunscreen for body so might try their facial one this year.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 28/03/2022 22:39

I use La Roche Posay Anthelios, the little rectangle bottle one and I really like it. However in a bid to save money, and I generally just hate being ripped off if there is something out there just as good for cheaper, I have bought the Garnier one in the rectangle bottle which is supposed to be a dupe for a tenner less.

My only reservation is that the UVA rating is only 3 stars, but then I am reading that the stars rating thing is just a marketing thing originated from Boots or something, and I think the LRP one is probably similar anyway.

GettingStuffed · 29/03/2022 03:39

I use Tesco own brand, it's cheap and I have no problems with it, it also smells of summer holidays.

I'm pale too and usually find tinted anything is too dark for me - what's this one like? Do you think you don't mind it because you're used to a lot of foundation or is it natural?

Also can some explain which of these is the best? There is additionally the age correct factor 50 one but it will only let me attach three pics. So that's at least 4 LRP factor 50s! I just want something light

I've got dry, sensitive skin and very sensitive eyes. They nearly all either sting my face, sting my eyes, are too drying or break me out (or all of the above). Currently using Altruist Face Fluid and I love it. Also love the normal Altruist SPF50.

One that didn't work: Heliocare (drying, stung eyes), No7 Protect & Perfect (break outs), Beauty Pie (eyes), Ultrasun (stung eyes and face, such a high alcohol content). I always end up with ones to use up on my neck/chest - I really should just stick to Altruist.

AnastasiaRomanov · 29/03/2022 07:44

Nivea 50 facial sunblock. It is really easy to apply and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy.

AnastasiaRomanov · 29/03/2022 07:47

I prefer mineral blocks though, but many leave a white cast in the skin. Any recommendations?

NameChanged15729 · 29/03/2022 08:05

Kiehls ultra light daily defence. I find it absorbs quickly so doesn’t effect make up application. It’s also factor 50.

FrownsAndDimples · 29/03/2022 08:14

Currently using REN mineral sunblock. Think they only do the one. I love that it has a whopping 22% non nano zinc which I need to fend off melasma. Slight white cast but rubs in eventually.

Innocenta · 29/03/2022 08:18

I use Supergoop, very happy with it.

LookItsMeAgain · 29/03/2022 08:37

I was browsing Instagram yesterday and saw on Marian Keyes' posts that she is always looking for a good facial SPF to go under her foundation and she tried this one and it works for her. It's a bit pricy but it might be worth the investment:

I use this one too. I like the sound of many of the mineral ones above (I can’t use a chemical screen, I react badly) but they all seem to have aluminium in. I worry about this in skincare as I assume it could be absorbed into the bloodstream, and i read something about aluminium being inked to dementia .
Marbles321 · 29/03/2022 08:40

I've just switched from Beauty Pie's chemical offering to Hello Farmer spf50 which is zinc - melasma is an issue for me and I need mineral based to really tackle it.
Very impressed - lightweight, sinks in, no white cast, doesn't leave face sticky. Got in on amazon for slightly less than the Korean beauty sites, but it's still quite pricey for such a small tube.

Open to suggestions to any cheaper mineral alternatives, but I have a feeling you get what you pay for when it comes to facial sunscreen!

Marbles321 · 29/03/2022 08:43

Thank You Farmer, not Hello Farmer! Blush

SmallestInTheClass · 29/03/2022 08:49

Another vote for NIVEA UV Face Shine Control SPF50. I've tried all sorts, lots of expensive ones but this is the best - goes on easily, soaks in so you don't have that layer of gunk on your skin, and doesn't make you look too shiny.
