Non-stingy handcream

My DC's hands are looking very dry and sore from washing and gelling. I've tried them with various hand creams but I've yet to find one that doesn't sting.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

Aveeno has been accepted by my DC who makes the same complaints.

FlickyCrumble · 28/03/2022 20:47

We like Aveeno body lotion. There is also a baby version. Not the aveeno hand cream.

Have you tried that keefes working hands?

BurntEnds · 28/03/2022 21:03

The body shop hemp struggling burns on my sore hands so avoid that

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/03/2022 22:55

I use BS Hemp , my hands get dry with the constant handwashing and gels (HCP) .
I have a scratch on my hand
No stinging . Smells a bit iffy though !

The o'keefes hand lotion was rubbish on me BUT their body lotion in the yellow pump - amazing! I had a rash on my hand that was sore and itchy and even steroids weren't clearing it
That body lotion shifted it in about 4 days and didn't irritate or sting. I'm converted

wonderspread · 29/03/2022 01:50

Agree on both O’Keefes, I think the green hand cream is great for hands and no issues. However, DH gets rashes on his hands and finds the green stings, but the yellow body lotion doesn’t and works brilliantly for him in clearing up the hands and moisturising well.

Neutrogena Norwegian.
£3.99 from places like Tesco. 300 doses in a tiny tube. I bought one tube early in 2020 lockdown when we were all scrubbing at ourselves constantly. Haven't finished it yet.
Can also recommend the body lotion.

How odd must just be my hands reacting. They get sore when I use it

Op I asked a skin nurse about moisturiser stinging.
She said it was the skin cells rehydrating. And likened it to a raisin refilling with water, the cells slowly expanding.

purplesequins · 29/03/2022 06:32

palmers cocoa butter.
in the tub.

it's very greasy, so best put it on before bed. but it works wonders (and smells nice).

sandgrown · 29/03/2022 06:34

Cetreben emollient cream works for me .

Peachy7 · 29/03/2022 06:42

If they're very dry any cream will sting until they start to repair. Load cream on, wrap them in cling film for 10 mins, then wrap a warm towel round them.

Lush Helping Hands.

Nursem
Do they do an unscented one?

I agree with @Peachy7. I also do this to my daughter but I slather some Vaseline on her hands! It does work.
CorsicaDreaming · 30/03/2022 21:21

Vaseline Dermacare in a white plastic bottle is very good at actually repairing and improving dry skin conditions. And generally well tolerated. Start with a small pea sized amount as I think sometimes it is using too much that can cause the skin to feel stingy. And after washing and drying so the skin starts quite hydrated and the cream can lock the moisture in.

If you are in a hard water area and can afford it, consider a water softener. Really make a difference.

And consider the hand wash / soaps used too. The school ones can be really drying and harsh. Could he take in a small bottle of his own hand wash and not use the school one?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/03/2022 21:27

Atrixo. I have terrible eczema on my hands and it's brilliant in my experience

JinglingHellsBells · 30/03/2022 21:37

Neutrogena for very dry hands.

NuzzleandScratch · 30/03/2022 21:45

Epaderm cream, nothing fancy, just a good plain moisturiser. Comes in a neat little pump, but also a larger one which is handy for use at home. Also make sure they are drying their hands thoroughly after washing, as I found recently I was getting a sore patch where I was leaving the skin slightly wet.

Perfectlystill · 31/03/2022 06:50

Dr Hauschka hydrating hand cream is really good. It's on Amazon.

FunnyTalks · 31/03/2022 10:34

Inecto My little saviour coconut hand & nail cream. Really soothing, effective and non stingy. Also really really cheap from chemists.

JurassicPerks · 31/03/2022 10:39

Keep putting it on til the hands aren't as dry, then most won't sting. Then you need to keep it up so they don't get to dry again.
Strange, I find putting on more cream when they start stinging helps - it usually takes a minute or 2 for them to start hurting ime.

Datsandcogs · 03/04/2022 20:45

For BurntEnds - Yes. In a white pot or tube, I’m allergic to fragrance and this stuff works!
