Flares - shoes?

Libertynan · 16/03/2022 13:56

Decided to take a break from skinny jeans and go for some flares. Mine are a little longer than the models so look much more casual.

What shoes would you go for? I have some boots with a slim heel, boots with chunky heel. Trainer style shoes in light shades and dark shades. Chunky flat boots (but I don't think they will work). Sandals with small chunky heel for warmer weather?

I've been stuck in the skinny jeans and chunky hiking boots for what seems like months now so am clueless!!

Thanks stylistas!

I wear my wide leg jeans with chunky Chelsea ankle boots, that may work?

Amelion · 16/03/2022 14:01

Are they really flares? Do you have a link? They look more like slim/straight to me from that angle.

Libertynan · 16/03/2022 14:21

They are def flares on me. Perhaps because I went for the Long length they flare out lower down.

Terrible changing room shot !

They’re nice and look great on you. I’d say sandals with a small heel would work or boots with a slim heel. You could try on your shoe options and post more pics here if you wanted ideas.

mewkins · 16/03/2022 14:50

I'd wear trainers with those. They are more kick flares than the massive ones I used to wear Grin.

HowIsItMarchAlready · 16/03/2022 15:29

Ages ago I used to love wearing flared jeans with cowboy boots!!!

evilharpy · 16/03/2022 15:49

I'm racking my brains to think of what shoes/boots I own that would work with these, but failing miserably. The best I can come up with is converse or maybe a pair of silver supergas. I think if I'm ever going to embrace the bootcuts I'll have to go shoe shopping too.

Oh or I have boots a bit similar to these, that might work?

In the early 2000s I'd have worn them with heeled strappy sandals for going out, but I couldn't even stand up in them these days Grin

Thank you for asking this important question! Love my flares but always get stuck on the footwear

evilharpy · 16/03/2022 16:07

& Other Stories suggests clogs are the way to go. I can't image walking in these, they look so uncomfortable.

A better option might be Vejas.

Reiss have lots of sandals with their flares but I quite like these pointy toes.

Pull & Bear have some with block heel sandals and lots with chunky white trainers.

Asos have chunky green things that might be boots or might be clogs and good old Converse.

Kiitos · 16/03/2022 17:53

Came here to say definitely clogs but @evilharpy had beaten me to it!

evilharpy · 16/03/2022 18:03

I used to have these exact clogs from Clarks, must have been early 2000s. I loved them but constantly went over sideways, I have no idea why I struggled to walk in them so much! Think I wore them more with long skirts or shorts though. Maybe clogs are the way to go with bootcut jeans, although hopefully the OP is less clumsy than me!

Libertynan · 16/03/2022 18:23

Thanks all

Some good ideas - I will get all my shoes lined up and have a trying on session.

Saw these and thought they’d be good with flares

Fixing Verity's link

I like these but would break my neck.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 17/03/2022 13:55

Either trainers or heels, depending on whether you're going smart or casual. Not boots or flats.

HCHQ · 17/03/2022 16:12

Check out Natascha McElhone's wardrobe in Californication.

Her character Karen has a fab look - lots of flares.

Wrinklepicker · 17/03/2022 16:53

Platforms work well with flares as do trainers, or ankle boots with a not-too-chunky heel.

EllaPaella · 17/03/2022 18:31

I used to wear kick flare and bootcut in the 00's and would wear with a pointed toe shoe or boot with a heel. I think now I would wear with either heeled clogs, a cowboy style ankle boot or platform or flatform trainers.

evilharpy · 17/03/2022 21:08

I saw these slingbacks from Zara earlier and thought they might work with your flares, OP.

Candlecassie · 17/03/2022 21:30

Oh god, I must be a dinosaur as the shoes linked, to me are horrendous. I’d just wear converse or vejas.

Pangolin44 · 17/03/2022 21:34

I think they're a bootcut rather than a flare, and they are a length that I wouldn't wear a platform or trainer with.

Clogs could be good, or there are lots of barely there slightly higher than kitten heel sandals around at the moment that would work. Little kick-flare and a whisper of heeled sandal is a good nod to the 90s.

Or a cowboy style with a Cuban heel and elastic panel.

No trainers! I always thought trainers with flares looked rubbish.

DillDanding · 17/03/2022 21:34

I think they look bad with heels. Those mules upthread are particularly dreadful.

Much better with nice trainers.

Libertynan · 18/03/2022 13:43

I would call them a bootcut too rather than a flare.

I tried them on with a couple of pair of heeled boots - one was a chunky heel, the other skinny. Looked okay actually.

I also tried with my white trainery shoes. They look fine. In my head I'll float around early summer with them and my birkenstocks.

I'd forgotten how much better they suit my shape than skinnies too. I've got larger calves than one would think looking at my thighs and bum area - and skinnies leave nothing to the imagination. In bootcuts/flares my calves are pretty much invisible.

Looking forward to wearing them tonight - will have a dress up and see what works best .

Thank you all for the suggestions.
