Help me find COMFORTABLE non-frumpy shoes that go with dresses

I am about to start a new role - semi-corporate but also arms-length public sector. I will be working with a chief exec as well as creative types.
I am pretty huge so my staple wardrobe is Boden dresses (some wrap, but some structured A-line ones). I had a social lunch yesterday and trialled one of my dresses with my usual pair of Clark's boots (not much of a heel, usually comfortable). Dear reader, I was in agony by the time I got home. I am so used to wearing trainers. I cannot wear heels due to age and weight. Also I have huge legs so ankle boots outside of the winter season when I can make my legs blend in with dark tights that match the boots are going to be problematic. What flat (but padded sole) shoes can you help me find? Trainers I fear will be too casual. Are there are other shoes that go with dresses that are not boots or heels? I quite like platform type leather sneakers in black leather with a white sole but are these too casual? My usual staple is black but will consider a navy pair to go with blue dresses too...

@5329871e my favourite pair of summer wedges are gabor. I've had them for nearly 5 years now, bought when I was 35. I hadn't heard of the brand but fell in love when I tried them on - so unbelievably comfy even all day on my feet. They still are my most chic (tan leather gladiator style ish) wedges and I get asked where they're from by my much younger, hip colleagues. Don't make assumptions on brands, look for yourself!

ISeeTheLight · 17/03/2022 18:31

Sargassoandgrey.com especially if you have wider feet. I have a pair of loafers and they're great, very comfy.

Peter Kaiser is also very good. And SOME gabor shoes are definitely not granny like!

WutheringCripes · 17/03/2022 18:34

Just giving a shout out to www.itsgotsoul.co.uk/

They do lots of great styles and are specifically designed for being on your feet all day - I used to work in hospitality and these were a god send and lasted me over 5 years!!!

Fitflops.

NannaKaren · 17/03/2022 18:37

You need to check out Fitflop - you will find lace up shoes, loafers, alley pumps and boots also summer wedge type sandals (plus Trainers)! Have a look they are so comfortable !!!!

…and good luck with your job xxx

goinghome2022 · 17/03/2022 18:38

I just got these for my recent round of interviews. They look good with a smart outfit and they have a bit of shine to them. They are really comfy. No need to break in at all. I was dubious when I first looked at them but on they were good, and they look good with jeans and stuff too. I don't wear many dresses but I think they'd do the job.

Camper. Love their shoes. Super comfy and stylish. www.camper.com/en_GB/women/shoes/flat_shoes

Lovely13 · 17/03/2022 18:43

Hotters are comfy and have some nice styles. Not sure why shoes are called granny. Nothing more unappealing than staggering in shoes that hurt you. Men don’t do that.

Billandben444 · 17/03/2022 18:53

with something to draw attention to your face like a statement necklace.
When I mentioned statement necklaces on another thread I was shot down in flames - they go with granny shoes apparently 🙄

Batmannequin · 17/03/2022 18:53

Have you looked on the Shuh website? They have have loads of brogues and loafers that would go great with dresses.

bellocchild · 17/03/2022 18:56

Have a look at Clarks. Usually supportive, with good footbeds. Hotter also do some fairly reasonable non-granny styles.

anappleadaykeeps · 17/03/2022 18:58

Fitflop ballerinas

watchingthedetectives · 17/03/2022 19:06

2nd or 3rd Camper. Really comfortable and lots of flat/low heel styles

simiisme · 17/03/2022 19:13

So many of the shoes being recommended have really thin soles.
If painful feet are an issue, they are unlikely to be comfortable.
I definitely need a tick, padded sole or I seem to feel every bit of gravel through the soles.
The most comfortable shoes I've owned for many years are these: www.orthoticshop.com/vionic-cosmic-codie-womens-casual-shoe.html

LemonDrizzles · 17/03/2022 19:13

This was me yesterday!

I decided to try some burgundy, wide, Clark shoes. I'll let you know how I get on.

New shoes do take a while to wear in....

LemonDrizzles · 17/03/2022 19:17

I see several people have suggested FitFlop, they are my go to for comfy shoes or boots of any sort, and I am also of traditional build. But I also have some Gabor which I love and some Moda in Pelle which are also really comfy (mine are wedge sandals but I’ve also got some white flats)

TypicaIMe · 17/03/2022 19:19

FitFlop Allegro

What I love about these is they look like they have regular, thin ballet pump soles but actually they have a concealed thick cushioned support sole. It's really cleverly done. As well as RA I have plantar fascitis and hypermobile joints but these keep everything in place and support my flat arches too. I have loads of pairs and they all look new, even though they're pretty much all I wear.

TypicaIMe · 17/03/2022 19:21

Link fail, hopefully this will take you to Allegro Grin

SymbollocksInteractionism · 17/03/2022 19:25

Something like these?

Chelsea boots for now, Fitflop ballet pumps for summer.

whythewait · 17/03/2022 20:06

@TeeBee how do they come up size wise please?

TeeBee · 17/03/2022 20:12

True to size really. I've had to buy half a size up once because they'd run out of my size and they were also fine.
