Cos - what do we all think?

What do we all think of cos? Who is it aimed at?

OP posts:
KimikosNightmare · 12/03/2022 16:53

I love Cos. I'm a 62 year old solicitor, 5'5 - size 14. I like it because the clothes are structured and quirky and look more expensive than they are.

grey12 · 12/03/2022 16:54

I like it Smile

It's a slightly hip basics, not bad quality. I'm in my 30s and MIL in her 60s also likes it

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 12/03/2022 16:55

I love COS, its my go to shop. I have most of my clothes from there. They just suit me and I think the quality is so much better than shops with a similar price point like Jigsaw. Some of their stuff is bizarre and even the models look stupid but on the whole I love it. Well cut items like white shirts, wool blend coats, bretton tops, shirt dresses some I have had for years and still look good.

evilharpy · 12/03/2022 16:57

I love it. Their clothes fit me really well and the oversized pieces somehow don't make me look like I'm dressing up in my dad's clothes. I'm early 40s.

emsyj37 · 12/03/2022 17:06

I always think the website makes the clothes look weird and a bit Toast-esque, but I saw a try on that doesmybumlook40inthis did on Instagram and the stuff looked really nice, so I'm tempted to try some things from there. Anyone know what the sizing is like?

Zinnia · 12/03/2022 17:10

What @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango said

I bought a couple of shirts and a long-sleeve top there this morning in fact Blush

Sizing is on the generous side, I'm a 14 and take a 40/M in Cos in most things, though have lots of 38/S things from pre-lockdown when I was more of a 12.

catfunk · 12/03/2022 17:10

I love it, have worn it for around 6 years (age 37 now) decent quality.
Sizing : SML is pretty roomy (the item descriptions usually say if oversized) 40/42/44 etc more true to size.

noodlezoodle · 12/03/2022 17:34

I love it. Yes they have some absolutely batshit stuff, but they also have some beautifully cut pieces that are really great quality for the money. All my Cos stuff has held up beautifully which unfortunately can't be said for most other shops!

EllaPaella · 12/03/2022 17:41

I love Cos

EllaPaella · 12/03/2022 17:42

Don't know who it's aimed at but I am 42 - the clothes are excellent quality for the price

WeirdArchitecture · 12/03/2022 17:42

What defines COS for me is 'city' or at least actively urban.

I used to shop there quite a bit, they offered decent basics in plain colours, but I didn't find the quality all that great - just because it's better then H&M doesn't mean it's ideal for me, etc.

But since I loved more rural, and then semi rural, I haven't found much use for COS. It would stand out slightly oddly here, where there's a mix of slouchy indie or else waterproofs.

My fave cashmere scarf is from COS though so I rate some stuff. As a look I'd def consider it professional metropolitan, not 'mad architect' as some say.

PAFMO · 12/03/2022 17:49

Agree with the above.
The website often does the brand no favours but the stuff is good.

PAFMO · 12/03/2022 17:50

I'd also define it as aiming for professional women looking for something a bit different for work.

XingMing · 12/03/2022 18:52

Living in the rural fringe, I still like it. It might be workwear for many but I think they generally get proportion, and the jeans have been good buys for me. Slouchy but not swampy.

user1460377741 · 12/03/2022 18:58

Love it. Really suits my body shape, which is large chest and slim everywhere else. Quality is v good and the clothes always wash well

L0stinCyberspace · 12/03/2022 19:09

I've found it to be hit and miss.

Some pieces I have years, beautifully cut, comfortable and different.

Last year I bought some Ts and they went thin in the wash really fast and the seams of long sleeve cotton Ts unravelled.

GettingStuffed · 12/03/2022 19:28

I find some pieces are not to my taste, but I bought a hooded sweatshirt dress from them. It's good quality and very warm

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 12/03/2022 19:30

Cos is okay as lettuce goes😃

bangaverage · 12/03/2022 19:32

I'd love it if I was tall and/or thin. But alas I am average height and size with big boobs. Lots of clever cuts and good fabrics.

sansucre · 12/03/2022 19:57

About 75% of my wardrobe is from COS. Have worn it ever since they opened their first store on the corner of Great Marlborough Street and Regent Street. I buy several items a season although in recent years, have waited until their sales as they always overstock and everything ends up being discounted.

I find their designs and my interest goes in cycles. The last time I really loved COS was when Rebecca Day was at the helm. After she left, I didn’t buy anything for several seasons. Then, suddenly, COS very much returned to its former glory and I started buying again. (I think this would have been 2017/2018). Then the pandemic happened. Obviously, I do understand that many brands reconsidered their offering, and many started to produce more relaxed lounge wear. COS definitely did this..

About six months ago, maybe a little longer, they changed their design and marketing strategy. Their branding changed, as evidenced by their new labels and (very dull) new shopping bags. They also changed their ethos and COS is now all about everyday luxury. Except I don’t find anything about their latest collection particularly luxurious at all. More man made fabrics are creeping in, and the designs are dreary and really rather pedestrian. They have also started to merchandise each store in exactly the same way so there is now a bland uniformity. Previously, as each store did things their own way, I often found items in one store I hadn’t noticed elsewhere. Now, I can walk in, scan the rails and at a glance see that there is nothing I haven’t already seen elsewhere. I was in their Covent Garden store earlier today and nothing really grabbed me. Usually at this point in the season, I have quite a few items earmarked. Presently, there is nothing. I really hope this is just a blip and rediscover their flare. COS were genuinely groundbreaking and individual when they first opened, but now, now it’s a shadow of its former self.

Rainallnight · 12/03/2022 20:02

I love Cos. I’m five feet nothing so have to choose carefully but get a lot of my clothes from there

wfrances · 12/03/2022 20:22

I've placed 2 orders and sent everything back
Nothing suited my shape at all
Im 5ft 4 and apple shaped

IvorCutler · 12/03/2022 21:36

I love cos but sizing is completely unpredictable. Obviously much of it is an oversized aesthetic (which I like), but even an xs can be oversized on me as a size 12! Other things I’ve bought have been a medium and verging on small. I wish I had a store locally that I could go into and try things on, I’d buy everything!

LunaTheCat · 12/03/2022 21:42

I love Cos . I live in Southern Hemisphere and alas only one shop here which is other end country.
Their sizing is hard to predict so unless familiar with style then it is risky to buy online.
Garments ware well constructed with French seams and love their cotton.

spacehardware · 12/03/2022 21:47
