Laser for age spots?

rainydogday · 03/03/2022 20:25

I have started getting liver coloured age spots on my nose and random places on my face. Use factor 30 or 50 now but did worship the sun previously. I am 42. Thinking I need zapping. Is it laser or what do I need to Google or look for at a clinic. Want something that will last and fix it! Then promise always to look after my
Skin......

I don’t know about laser but once I started to use vitamin C serum, a large’ish liver spot on my cheek has completely faded away.

Lumecca IPL is supposed to be the best atm. You only need 1 to 3 treatments. I had my first on Monday, which was very easy and painless. Before hearing about Lumecca, I had two LimeLight treatments in the autumn, which were very painful and didn’t really make a lot of difference. IIRC at least 4 to 6 LimeLight treatments are recommended so Lumecca should work in half the time. 🤞

rainydogday · 03/03/2022 22:28

This sounds daft but is it the same or similar as the Philips lumea hair zapper? Or similar and much stronger?
I have tried vitamin C and it did help a bit but not enough. Thanks for replies. Do age spots come back if super careful about sun or is it just a pigment thing similar to wrinkles and inevitable?

I use Dermatica- last resort before laser. It took about 8 weeks, my skin is so much better. It took me a bit of practise to tolerate it. Very happy o share tips.

doadeer · 03/03/2022 23:02

I'm not sure about laser but Dermatica prescription can help - they will give you a formulation.

I would definately keep up the high Spf too. As a standalone not in a moisturiser.

NoToLandfill · 03/03/2022 23:16

Not all vitc serums are equally good. Best one is skinceuticals. £ but works. SPF 50 every single day from now to forever. Decent facialist can treat the sun damage.

groovergirl · 03/03/2022 23:22

Following as I have awful spots on my hands in a very unfash '70s caramel hue!
Do let us know how you go, OP. It would good to know what works for you.

floppybit · 03/03/2022 23:25

Follow also because of age spots on hands, interested to see what works for you

Clymene · 03/03/2022 23:27

Costing super restorative age control hand cream works.

Clymene · 03/03/2022 23:28

Costing? Clarins!

Following… age spots all around my eyes!
Clicked on the dermatica link with interest but do you just keep paying £20 a month indefinitely, @doadeer?? It’s not clear…

Yes you get a tube a month for £20. But you only need cleanser, moisturiser and Spf on top of that. And they don't need to be expensive. A tube can last longer than a month too and I believe you can delay the order if you still have some left.
rainydogday · 04/03/2022 08:08

Do you use it all over or just the spots? What is it? I am thinking along the laser thing as want a quick fix Blush

OP posts:
doadeer · 04/03/2022 08:32

It's a cream that targets pigmentation, fine lines, brightens skin.
It's a long term solution not a quick fix but it helps with lots of skin issues.

Sorry i don't know much about laser!

lurkingfromhome · 04/03/2022 08:37

I had IPL on a couple of age spots quite a few years ago. It definitely worked very well in two sessions (the pigment kind of rises to the surface and rubs off) although the spots have come back, but that's through me not being as zealous with the SPF as I should have been, I suspect. I'm going to go and get them blasted again next week then after that it's SPF 50 every single day for me. I don't think any serum is going to work as effectively as giving it a good blast of IPL, or if it does, it will be a very long-term thing.

NoToLandfill · 04/03/2022 08:39

Any treatment creams put on at night. Then each morning put on spf 50 on top of whatever serums you use.

Barksmum12 · 04/03/2022 12:05

I delay my delivery, £20 every 6 weeks. I have a plain face cream and SPF. I thinks it’s actually cheaper for me, than the lotions and potions I was using.

I started to notice the difference after 8 week, but my skin is so much better overall. There is a really good You Tube video which shows you how to apply it.

imstilljenny2 · 04/03/2022 12:19

This us a brilliant video on dealing with age spots. I've just booked laser treatment after watching it

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/03/2022 17:03

I’d just go for laser if you can afford it. Zap the fuckers off before summer.

rainydogday · 06/01/2023 20:32

Update! I have been using dermica sent through every 6 weeks or so. It has faded my age spots but not sure if that's also Because it is winter. Anyway today I have my first laser treatment! They use gentle pro max? The same thing is a used for hair removal. Didn't hurt and the spots have gone very dark already. Apparently they go dark and crusty then flake off! I have an appointment for two weeks incase I need a top up. It cost me £50! Which was much cheaper than I thought

helenabonhamfarter · 06/01/2023 22:08

Please do update as looking at laser myself

UserNinetyNine · 07/01/2023 08:47

Thanks for the update OP, I happened to be reading this thread the other week looking for tips.

Was laser recommended over IPL (or is it the same thing?)? I’m looking for a recommendation of where to go in London if anybody has one.

UserNinetyNine · 07/01/2023 08:50

Also could I ask if the spots go dark right away, and can you cover them with concealer? Not sure if I’d love going into work with dark brown flaky patches all over my face, might have to book some time off.

rainydogday · 07/01/2023 11:16

I had lots of little ones on the side of my cheeks and neck and a bigger one on my nose. They are suddenly very noticeable since zapped but I am thinking that's a good thing! They said I can wear my normal makeup that will lesson them but be careful when cleansing as you are not supposed to pick the scabs off. I will try to upload a photo, but it's doesn't seem to want to let me

Have a look at cryo pen for age/sun spots, cheaper and quicker than laser xx
