Is it worth spending more than £30 on a hairdryer? Does it actually dry any better?

Yes the more expensive dryers are better.
They have different settings, they are longer in length and easier to control and the various temperatures are better for your hair.

KindlyKanga · 26/02/2022 21:23

Thank you. I saw some that were ionic that looked interesting.

Meant to say - they also dry much faster than the smaller, cheaper ones!

You know what, I didn't even twig they might dry it faster! I just assumed they might make it smoother. So is about £50-60 a decent price to spend on one? I need a new one but it's been years!

I have a Dyson, it was a gift and I like it but not worth the extra money. It is a bit better than previous hairdryer £30ish one but not enough to justify the cost.

Youcansaythatagainandagain · 26/02/2022 21:34

I have a Parlux and like it. I’ve had it years but there are probably better versions available now.

Slowgrowingelm · 26/02/2022 21:39

Eti turbo hairdryer - absolutely brilliant. I have thick, long and wavy (frizzy) hair. I wash and blow dry it straight twice a week. Stays straight. It’s amazing. Mine was about £50 or £60. I had my first one for years, replaced last year with my second. Was gifted a dyson but it couldn’t cope with my hair, it would cut out and stop working half way through.

JSG55 · 26/02/2022 21:43

I have a cloud9 hairdryer. It is heavier than previous lower priced hairdryers but I love it, worth every penny

NoToLandfill · 26/02/2022 21:45

Ionic does work. I have a not very expensive babyliss one. It's great.
Go for 2000W, a decent hairdryer needs some decent power

Erictheavocado · 26/02/2022 21:59

I have just bought the Babyliss big diamond hairdryer. It has a rotating brush and is actually easy to use once you remember which button to press so it rotates in the right direction. It was about £42.

KindlyKanga · 26/02/2022 22:05

Thanks everyone! So helpful!

Be careful with this. I have one and loved it. It’s very hard on your hair. My hair had severe breakage from it. It happened gradually and I didn’t realise until the damage was done.

Have a look at Diva. They're on a par with Parlux quality wise but cheaper. This is their cheapest one at present, currently reduced to £30:

Ok so I've found a cloud nine green and a ghd airshot one both on sale to about £90-£100 are they any good? Or is this just paying for a name?

OP posts:

cannot bring myself to spend more than £100

My gym has ghd hairdryers and they do seem good. Never heard of cloud9. I'd go for ghd
(I still have an original pair of ghd straighteners, still working perfectly, so the build quality must be good)

Stateofflux · 27/02/2022 07:50

I have a GHD hairdryer and my hair is noticeably better since using it. Less frizzy, better condition, much quicker 👌🏼

Erictheavocado · 27/02/2022 08:21

@Youcansaythatagainandagain

Thank you for the warning. I have only just started using it as I am letting my hair grow from my usual very short style. I will keep a close eye on things - I'm only expecting to use it for a few months and I only dry my hair once, maybe twice a week, after using a good protective hair oil, so hopefully will be able to prevent any damage. Thanks for the warning.

KindlyKanga · 27/02/2022 10:29

Right I've been reading reviews and am still no closer to choosing between the 2. I might toss a coin.

I don’t know about either of them OP.

GHD has a good name and their straighteners have been around for years and they work. I’ve often wondered why hair stylists never seem to use the GHD dryers as they all seem to use the GHD straighteners.

I was recommended Parlux by a hair stylist who used one herself.

If I was buying a new dryer, I would read online reviews from hair salon stylists who use hairdryers day in and day out…

KindlyKanga · 27/02/2022 13:52

Thank you yes I shall try and hunt more reviews down.

I have a Parlux-it’s still going strong after 4 years and is the best dryer I’ve had. Think it was about £95. Quiet, powerful and leaves shiny hair. Whenever I go to a hotel and use the dryers provided, I’m reminded how good my dryer is!

ArabeI · 04/03/2022 11:02

I'd also recommend Parlux. Mine must be quite ancient now as it's years old. I'd replace it with another if the need ever arose.

I did briefly look at Dyson, having heard favourable reviews, but I rarely use heat on my hair nowadays to make the purchase cost worthwhile.

ShavingTheBadger · 04/03/2022 11:04

Parlux all the way. My first one lasted 14 years and I only replaced it with a new one because it stopped being as powerful. It still works and is my "emergency" hairdryer :-)
