Cotton knickers with wide gussets in multipacks

Not a troll, honest. Just a peri-menopausal woman who uses sanitary pads and pantyliners, and can no longer find comfy inexpensive cotton knickers with wide gussets. Used to buy M and S or Sainsbury's multipacks; now find their gussets are shrinking. Hard to make out gusset size on websites. Any reccos?
@ClumpingBambooIsALie I too hate the thin elastic - which mens ones are you buying please?
Just supermarket men's briefs with no fly in a multipack — there's sometimes a little extra room in the front but not much. They suit me fine because I've got basically no bum.

Noodlekugel · 23/02/2022 16:54

@ClumpingBambooIsALie Thanks - I'll take a look.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 23/02/2022 16:58

Closest thing I can compare them to is those extra thick knickers some schools used to make girls wear to do sports Hmm Those had tunneled seams for the elastic, too.

Noodlekugel · 23/02/2022 17:14

Ah yes - sounds familiar!

Lollypop701 · 23/02/2022 17:31

Seriously it’s so bloody annoying that they are making gussets smaller. I’m not aware that womens bits are shrinking, or that we no longer need a bloody gusset or only a bloody gstring type one.

CharlesChickens · 23/02/2022 17:38

@Aderyn21

Try wirapa brand on Amazon - they are cotton, very comfy and decent quality
I recently bought these after seeing them suggested on here and they have a wide gusset shape. They are incredibly comfortable. I am a 12 and I bought the size L rather than the M as I was worried they might come up small and I hate knickers that are snug at the top of the thighs. they are fine but I suspect the M would have also been fine as they are pretty stretchy. A 10-12 I think the M would be the right size.
AuntMasha · 23/02/2022 17:40

I am also appalled by this gusset stinginess on behalf of manufacturers. OP has my sympathy as I too struggle to find adequate gussetry.

gluenotsoup · 23/02/2022 18:00

Even children’s knickers have little thin gussets, I hate it. Not only are they uncomfortable but kids are so active that they need to be able to move and climb and so on, and everything stays covered up. It’s stinginess on the part of the manufacturers.

As I get older Im definitely going for bigger pants , usually all cotton ones . Came across these the other day , comfy and very reasonable price for 3 I thought

Bagelsandbrie · 23/02/2022 18:18

I’m having this issue too. It must be a thing if so many of us are complaining about it! I used to buy m and s midi knickers but the last pack I got were awful and ended up in the bin!

Celestiel · 23/02/2022 18:19

Matalan multipack full knickers are generous of gusset (seriously, why do retailers make knicker gussets that are smaller in width than sanitary pads? It just increases likelihood of the pad sticking to inner thigh and tearing off…)

JanisMoplin · 23/02/2022 19:00

Is it because most women use tampons these days? Thanks for all the suggestions.

Glitterdandruff · 23/02/2022 19:11

I wondered that too as I used to see many more options of pads in the supermarket or if more people have mirenas and similar so maybe lighter flow?

Bagelsandbrie · 23/02/2022 19:16

I think a lot of women take the mini pill and the normal pill without a break now so they don’t have periods (that’s true for me, but I’m 41 and have incontinence issues due to disabilities so I need pads for that… the joys)!

Bagelsandbrie · 23/02/2022 19:16

(It used to be that you had to have a 7 day break with the combined pill but you don’t have to do that anymore).

CalledYouARadical · 23/02/2022 19:18

Definitely Primark, as a PP said. They have a range of different styles, all with proper gussets.

twilightcafe · 23/02/2022 19:21

Another vote for Primark knickers.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 23/02/2022 19:26

Seconding the John Lewis recommendation, they are the best ones I've tried.

feministqueen · 23/02/2022 19:30

Full briefs from boody are brilliant and I can highly recommend them

I got some Wirapa shorts style after a recommendation on MN. They are really good. Bought from Amazon

Petit Bateau are the ones to get . Not cheap but last and can be passed down.
Celestiel · 23/02/2022 19:58

You don’t need to be on the mini pill to not need a decent gusset - small ones have a habit of siding ‘either side’ and doing a reverse wedgie here…

I was going to say Matalan, I've just bought several packs of these for after my C-section next week and they have gussets big enough for maternity pads.
ClumpingBambooIsALie · 23/02/2022 20:19

I don't see the point of skinny gussets. Surely the entire rest of the pair of knickers exists purely as a support structure for the presence and correct placement of the gusset.
