Is this ok for a wedding? And what do I wear with it?

April wedding but not in this country (should be about 20 degrees) and is at a vineyard. I really like it (it has pockets!) but I have no idea what to accessorise it with. I can’t wear heels unless they are blocky and I have wide feet. I’m usually a T-shirt and jeans person but am trying to go outside my comfort zone as I’m very nearly 50 and need a change.

I would say it seems very casual for a wedding but I guess a vineyard wedding might be casual. I would wear low wedges with it as the ground might be very uneven.

For a fairly relaxed, outdoor wedding I think it’s lovely.
It’s a great colour and I think it suits you.
Really pretty sandals? I think I’d be choosing gold accessories with that. A gold belt might make it look more ‘dressy’??
Statement Jewellry?
I’m not a style guru by any means but I think it just fine for what you need it for.

It looks a bit too casual, do you have more options?

threecupsofteaminimum · 22/02/2022 12:23

Not really, it's too casual and might look a bit scruffy with flats, sorry.

If you normally live in jeans perhaps a trouser suit in a pastel colour and nice chiffon scarf in case it gets chilly?

Thatsplentyjack · 22/02/2022 12:24

If its quite a casual wedding I would say it's good. Looks lovely on you.

TwoBlueFish · 22/02/2022 12:25

Hmm, so maybe too casual. No other options yet but open to suggestions.

I love it! (I am also being swayed by the pockets.)

If the wedding is in France and involves French guests, I have always found weddings here to be very dressy (although I just embrace my British style, because I'd feel like a twonk in anything too dressy), so I would definitely go with gold accessories to add a bit of sparkle. Low wedges seem the safest option.

Ooh, I love that! Where's it from? I'd definitely wear it if it's a casual wedding 🙂

3dogsnorth · 22/02/2022 12:34

I'm with you on this! I'm of a similar age and style. I think the dress looks really nice on you, maybe some wedges and a nice bag and it'll be lovely

Not France, it’s South Africa

Not keen on the trouser suit. I like the dress but that length never seems to look right unless it’s paired with heels.

It looks brighter and nicer on the website than it does on you!

I'd be tempted to order some more dresses like the JL ones linked to and try on before the wedding to see what suits you. I have no idea re heat etc in SA.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/02/2022 12:49

I have dithered over that dress on the Hobbs website. I’m just not certain about the 100% polyester for a summer dress.

Batinahat · 22/02/2022 13:08

I think it looks lovely and perfect for a wedding - it really suits you. On the Hobbs page it suggests some white wedge espadrilles to wear with it - would something like that be an option? I don't think heels are essential for any outfit including weddings and I don't think you have to be very dressed up for weddings. Be comfortable and confident in what you like and are happy wearing and have a fab time! :)

Thank you 😊 I’ve bought it! So now to find some shoes and things to accessorise

It's a nice day dress but too casual for a wedding. The length and style suit you, it's just the colour, pattern and fabric.

AgathaX · 22/02/2022 13:25

The pink dress from John Lewis linked to upthread is beautiful and perfect for a wedding.

WhatAHexIGotInto · 22/02/2022 13:26

I think the lighting is not great in your photo because I have that dress and it's lovely, it's a beautiful colour. It fits you really well and the length is good on you. I would go for gold wedges and gold accesories. Nice pair of sunglasses too if the wedding is in SA.

I wore these shoes with mine recently - so maybe something similar? I know these are pricey (Christmas money!) but you can get lots of lovely similar shoes for much less.

Palavah · 22/02/2022 13:29

Is the belt detachable? If so you could buy or borrow a slim gold belt instead and woth other gold accessories, plus a headband that could look lovely.
