"Modest" nightwear and pjs

Notagoodnight · 19/02/2022 06:32

My DS(14) has a developed a condition that means he needs round the clock male support staff. I have realised that this means DD(26) and I have a desperate need for some sleepwear that is "modest" and better quality than our usual primark stuff!

I'm looking for long nightgowns in slightly stretchy fabric, a long lightweight definitely not see through dressing gown that is easy to get on quickly, and a long definitely not see through must stay closed dressing gown without a waistband that I can sit in comfortably. They must be lightweight as the heating is on these day much more than it used to be.
Any recommendations?

Dd is 16 not 26!!

You could have a look at cyberjammies? I'm not sure if they are actively modest enough if you're talking religious levels of modesty but might shirts I have (though not long enough) aren't see through so I see no reason why the night dresses would be. They're mainly only knee length so if you want floor length I don't think they'd be doable. There is often a discount code in relation to them or you can often find them in TK Maxx.

Lands End

Thatsplentyjack · 19/02/2022 06:48

Just buy t-shirt and shorts/trousers pajams. Probably easier.

ZenNudist · 19/02/2022 07:02

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Surely m&s has enough lightweigt modest pj's and nightgown to sink a ship?. Personally I prefer pj's and like fat face or joules. I wear a big man's t-shirt in bed and have pj's bottoms and bed socks on the floor to pull on. That's modest enough.

hugoagogo · 19/02/2022 07:07

Dressing gowns inevitably flap, I wear long length hoodies this time of year. Something like this could work if your house is really warm.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 19/02/2022 07:07

I was going to say m&s, too. I's there a reason pjs aren't an option?

gingerhills · 19/02/2022 07:17

Buy different stuff from Primark! I have very modest long legged and long or short sleeved cotton jersey PJs from there which are the most comfortable ever and not at all see through. Put a good dressing gown or kimono on top and you look perfectly respectable.

Boux sells sets of PJs in little bags that always get loads of compliments if I wear them at family Christmases/on holiday with friends. 20% off your first order which brings the price down a fair bit.

LuckyKitty13 · 19/02/2022 07:23

I bought a exactly this from sainsburys recently!

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 19/02/2022 07:42

I assume you will sleep with your bedroom door closed, then I would just keep a hoody and joggers next to the bed to throw on when I get up. Can be a thin lightweight hoody - primark sells some as loungewear.
It’s a hard one if your house is kept warm as if it was me, the warmer the house the less I want to wear in bed. Hopefully you will get to know the carers well enough that soon you won’t be too worried about them, they have to accept they are going into normal family life and not to judge your pjs

Notagoodnight · 19/02/2022 07:46

Not religious levels of modesty! Just definitely arent see though and are definitely absolutely not sexy. I want the carers and us to be comfortable

I can get quite very sensory in what I sleep in/wear when I'm tired and am worse the hotter I am. Usually the house is cold as is makes it easier, but the carers get quite uncomfortable sat in a temperature which works for me. I have pjs which are fine for those occasions when I am comfortable in pjs But sometimes I cant do waistlines, sometimes I cant do large shoulders and it isnt unheard of that I end up needing to strip everything off! Today we had an ambulance arrive to do a heart assessment at 4.30am. I was ok because it was a good PJ day

I thought Marks too. Theres a couple of night dresses that may be good but otherwise I was surprisingly unimpressed. Theres a lot of fleece I'll take a look at the other suggestions. Its possibly the good dressing gown that is most important thing.

www.thewhitecompany.com/uk/Clothing/c/nightwear

Has some nice things but £££

Also www.cyberjammies.co.uk, particularly for dressing gowns. I got an excellent one from there for my stay in hospital.

Spellfish · 19/02/2022 07:49

Lands End nighties are soft and stretchy and work for my dd who has issues with waistbands and how things feel.

Northernsoullover · 19/02/2022 07:49

I bought muslin pyjamas from m and s last year. Pink. Not see through. I would imagine they will have them again in spring.

WaitingonSpring · 19/02/2022 07:58

Thermostatic radiator valves. Grin I hate sleeping in anything on my legs, so if I'm visiting or we have company I keep a pair of pyjama trousers by the bed to throw on when I leave the room.

k1233 · 19/02/2022 08:01

Can you wear summer tshirt nighties? They're comfy, no waist band and not hot. Either of these would work. The sleeveless one would be good if you're struggling with shoulders

The thing that helps me feel less exposed is a bra underneath. Might a soft (cropped?) vest with in build support be cool for you - or maybe too restrictive, with a dressing gown over the top for when you need to meet people in your nightwear?

Have you got the radiator control valve in your bedroom turned right down to cool your sleeping space below the temperature in the rest of the house?

HelloDulling · 19/02/2022 08:07

Lands End nighties are nice soft jersey and very long, with long and short sleeves. If you want to keep your breasts under control, the Bravissimo lounge bra is comfy for sleeping.

shinynewapple22 · 19/02/2022 08:07

Are cotton jersey PJs with short sleeves OK? Have bought from Next - also surprisingly from Avon!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/02/2022 08:07

Get a thermostat fitted to your radiator, wear what you want in bed and if you need to get up pull on some pajama bottoms and a hoodie or find a dressing gown. seasalt do a nice light one called pottering gown which doesn't gape.

Sorry for what you're dealing with Flowers

ChangedToday · 19/02/2022 08:11

I haven't got a link to hand but you can get long dressing gowns /towelling robes with zips. Possibly called bathrobes? Or something with swimming in the name? Certainly something I used to wear to walk to and from the beach in colder weather when there were no changing facilities etc.

Blackcoffeewithmilkplease · 19/02/2022 08:15

Sorry to hear about your son, OP.

I've been buying Japanese kimono dressing gowns from this site for years - www.japanya.co.uk/mobile/category.aspx?cat=Japanese-Clothing

The lined yukata in particular are so so comfy, and because it's cotton and gauze it's really cool to wear. They are a bit pricy but last for years. They are ankle length on me (5'6") and perfectly modest. The only thing is that they do have big kimono sleeves which might get in the way if you have to do any practical nursing of ds.

k1233 · 19/02/2022 08:16

I've got a few of these dresses in navy to wear around the house. Quick to throw on. Something like this might be an option to put on before leaving your room if you can't wear pjs?
