How much time do you designate to getting ready in the morning?

I feel like since Covid I just don’t fit any time for me to get ready into the mornings, basically I’ve been WFH and as I had a 1 year old when Covid started I was finding it stressful to get myself ready as toddler was running riot so I have literally got out the habit of getting ready & just chuck on a pair of jeans Blush

I need to change this. Feeling crap about myself.

So if you have little kids & work, how much time do you allocate to getting ready & what’s your routine?

My one year old is now 3.5 so I’m thinking it should theoretically at least be easier to get myself ready although I somehow still struggle Confused

15-20 minutes, shower, hair wash teeth clean, dry and straighten hair, dressed, coat on, shoes on, out the door.
I only have me to get ready.

MrsWorriedMother · 18/02/2022 19:40

About an hour and 15 mins but I don't leave the house without make up.
If hair washing say just over hour and a half

absolutelynotfabulous · 18/02/2022 19:40

Half an hour. Up, wash face, mousurise, wait a bit, makeup on, fiddle with hair, dress. Teeth, coat and out.

Bath night before. Smile

HumbugWhale · 18/02/2022 19:40

I'm lucky that dh is still wfh most of the time (he did pre-covid too) so he gets up with the dcs and sorts breakfast, packed lunches etc while I shower and get dressed then eat my breakfast. He then gets himself and dcs ready and takes them to school before starting work.
From getting out of bed to leaving the house takes me about 45 mins.

WhatAHexIGotInto · 18/02/2022 19:41

An hour.

Take dog out, shower, make up, dry hair, eat breakfast, empty dishwasher, put a washing on, make sure DD up and getting ready, DS not up til after I leave. Out the door at 7am.

WhatAHexIGotInto · 18/02/2022 19:44

Oh and teeth, obviously!

FigitBit · 18/02/2022 19:45

People who take an hour plus - do you have young kids?

OP posts:
Watchingpeppa12 · 18/02/2022 19:52

I have kids and take an hour, up at 6 they are up at 7

LittleBearPad · 18/02/2022 19:55

An hour plus!

How? I’m trying not to sound snarky but genuinely how can it take that long.

25 mins OP and that includes washing and drying my hair.

trilbydoll · 18/02/2022 20:01

10 minutes to get dressed and do makeup. I don't dry my hair. I do have a bath though so that obviously can be anything from 5-30 minutes!

DH chivvies along dc while he's ironing their school uniform. When they were younger I'd leave them in front of the TV while I got ready.

Wiennetta · 18/02/2022 20:02

An hour or so. In answer to @LittleBearPad it’s probably something like: First a shower, 15 minutes or so. Make a cup of tea and then put some make up on - another 15 minutes. Dry hair and style - 15 minutes. Then brush teeth, get dressed and get stuff together for the day - 15 minutes. If I wanted to make a bit more of an effort I’d spend a few more minutes on hair and make up so could spend an hour and 15 or an hour and a half in total.

Not rushing so could do it quicker but I like a slow-ish morning and don’t enjoy rushing first thing.

Well my hair takes 45-60 mins to dry Grin I mostly do it at night because of that
FindingMeno · 18/02/2022 20:04

For me, 20- 30 minutes.
For everyone and everything else, about 2hrs and 15 mins prior to that.
I don't do make up.

isthismylifenow · 18/02/2022 20:07

About an hour. But in this hour I include making a cup of coffee and taking it back to bed. Then there is a big panic as I got top invested in FB memes

statetrooperstacey · 18/02/2022 20:08

I’ve always got ready downstairs , I keep my make up and hairdryer etc in the utility room, so while they’re eating breakfast I get myself ready.
Years ago my first house had a downstairs bathroom and I used to run a shallow bath put dd in with a yoghurt and a spoon and sometimes a banana and get ready while she ate that, then just rinse her off and got her dressed .
To answer your question anywhere between 15 mins and 30, rarely shower in the morning.

TheMadGardener · 18/02/2022 20:09

1 hour 10 mins. Up, wash face, moisturise, shake teenage DDs who grunt at me, go downstairs, feed cats, make breakfast, check whether DDs have actually surfaced, eat breakfast while listening to radio and checking phone, go back upstairs, do face and teeth, get dressed, brush hair, remind DDs to eat breakfast, take school stuff, etc, get my lunch from fridge, put on shoes, get bag, leave house.
I have to leave at 7.50 to drive to work in another town. DDs don't have to leave until about 8.15 to walk to school so they have the luxury of a bit more time to eat breakfast and get themselves ready. That's the advantage of them being 17 and 15 and able to sort themselves out and nag each other. When they were little my DH was alive (died in 2019, bastard cancer) and we were able to work as a team to sort out kids in morning.

25 minutes?!

Not meaning to sound snarky but why so long?

10 minutes here and that includes 7 minutes to showering/washing my hair.

LittleBearPad · 18/02/2022 20:12

Ok that’s fair - one more question. I always dry my hair pre makeup. Does yours come off when your drying your hair.

Mine is very long so tend to get fairly hot drying it. Feel my make you would melt off if I did it first. Am I missing a trick?

EileenGC · 18/02/2022 20:13

30 mins for shower, wash, dry and straighten, face wash and/or moisturiser and brush teeth.

40 mins if I add make up to all that.

Wash hair every 2-3 days so every other day I can be out the door within 20 minutes of waking up. Just me to get ready.

LittleBearPad · 18/02/2022 20:13

Ah @Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat I read MN while I’m drying my hair. It slows me down.

Itsnottheendoftheworldisit · 18/02/2022 20:19

I put clothes on. Then I’m too busy getting everyone else ready. Curly hair goes in a messy bun, can’t brush it or it would be huge and frizzy. I don’t do any make up. So about 1 minute.
I bath just before bed so don’t need a shower when I get up. I am not a morning person at all.
I am one of those mums who’s kids are immaculate, their clothes crisply ironed and hair all perfect. But I look like a complete wreck!

KitDeLuca · 18/02/2022 20:24

@TheMadGardener 💐

Chewbecca · 18/02/2022 20:29

30 mins max.

Loo, shower, dry off & moisturise & hrt. Teeth, hairdry, dress, mascara, out.

Clevs · 18/02/2022 20:30

If I'm just getting myself up for work then 40mins. If I'm getting myself and toddler up to go somewhere then at least 1.5 hours but ideally 2 hours.
