Fragrance free moisturiser

Dilbertian · 17/02/2022 22:36

The ingredients list for my favourite moisturiser has changed and added 'parfum'. It smelled pleasant enough without it - nicer than, say, Simple or Waitrose Pure - and it felt nicer than them, too.

I'm allergic to several fragrances, so it's safer for me to avoid all fragrance, even 'natural'.

Can anyone recommend a nice facial moisturiser that has a bit of a feel of luxury, smells pleasant and is not clinical or heavy - and is fragrance-free?

I find that even the fragrance free ones smell of something, and the smell isn't particularly pleasant.

Dilbertian · 18/02/2022 08:52

True, which is one reason I liked my previous cream so much. It's one thing to rub something that smells like PVA glue on your elbows and knees - quite another to rub it on your face!

All FaceTheory's moisturisers come in scented and unscented versions. They have ones for all different skin types, and I've found all their products very good. And they're plastic free to boot!

Cerave is wonderful, I also have very sensitive skin. There's a day moisturiser with SPF and a ight one without

I came on here to say the same. Brilliant stuff and a good price.
chatw0o0 · 19/02/2022 06:14

Came on to also suggest Cerave! I have got both (SPF and non-SPF). They're a good price, no fuss and effective. I've got the serum as well, which is also good.

Very sensitive skin here. Since using Cerave, my skin has never looked better

Dilbertian · 19/02/2022 14:47

Looks like I'm going to have to try Cerave Grin

I don't think I've seen it in shops. Do I need to buy it online?

I have really sensitive skin and cerave burns like billy-o. Can use the cleansers but not the creams.

I’ve just started using Eucerin Ato-Control and am really liking it

JungleJimbo · 19/02/2022 15:24

Sorry to hear you don't get on with Cerave @LefttoherownDevizes!

Eucerin is also wonderful, completely cleared my eczema

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/02/2022 15:25

@Dilbertian
Boots and Superdrug sell it, or sites like look fantastic online

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 19/02/2022 16:22

Cerave can sting if my skin is unhappy- must be the moisture barrier. But if my skin is under control then Cerave is fine and actually helps keep it under control.
Eucerin make some nice ones, too. Diprobase or Aquamax works when my skin is really unhappy as both a cleanser and moisturiser.

Dilbertian · 19/02/2022 16:43

Diprobase doesn't agree with my skin. Eucerin is good, but I don't like the smell or texture (as with most of these things). Though I haven't used them in over 10y, so I won't discount checking them out again.

It's just that I'd like something nicer than clinical. So difficult to find decent fragrance free stuff.

If my skin is unhappy I don't use any moisturiser other than pure virgin cold-pressed coconut oil until it has completely steamed down again.

Olay Sensitive. Not fancy but has spf and does the job for me despite eczema.

Thecazelets · 19/02/2022 16:49

I didn't get on with Cerave either - was tempted to try as teenage dd likes it, but was not for me.

LefttoherownDevizes · 19/02/2022 16:51

If you really don't want to try the Pharmacy brands then Liz Earle sells unfragranced Superskin moisturiser, it does smell a bit from the oils but no fragrance.

It is rich though.

Also Clinique still fragrance free

merrymelodies · 19/02/2022 16:59

Avene or Laroche-Posay are both really good.

Geamhradh · 19/02/2022 19:59

There are various CeraVe moisturizers and some of them have actives like salicylic so even though unfragranced they would irritate very sensitive skin.
La Roche Posay Toleriane or Cica range
Lumene is unfragranced
Clinique has never been fragrances.

Remember that no added fragrance means the cream will smell of its actual ingredients. This doesn't always mean it'll smell nice! I had a lovely Lumene cream that I wouldn't repurchase because of the honk to it.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 19/02/2022 21:12

Cetaphil Rich Night cream is also very nice and not too expensive. I have used it during the day as well before SPF cream.

Classica · 19/02/2022 21:16

I love Bioderma's Sensibio range.

Classica · 19/02/2022 21:17

clinique if you would rather something other than a French pharmacy brand

Dolphinnoises · 19/02/2022 21:18

My dermatologist recommended LaRoche Posay. I know they’ve got a sponsored thread for babies on this week but I promise I’m not on commission! Their daily moisturiser is excellent

Blossom64265 · 19/02/2022 21:36

I would try Clinique
The pros are that they have several to choose from and are pretty good about samples with purchase so it makes it easy to try really lots of variety.
The con is that they do use derivatives of Benzoic acid as a preservative in some of their moisturizers. There is a correlation with people diagnosed with fragrance allergy and diagnosed with Benzoic acid allergy. Just something to be aware of.

As always. Patch test for 72 hours before using on your face. Much better to have a small reaction on your arm than have your whole face swell up.
