Bardot dress for work

I have a meeting with some clients in two weeks. Having wfh for nearly two years and not been into the office, I don’t fit into my work clothes at all, so I need a new dress.

Been struggling to find anything but came across a Bardot style dress that, whilst strictly speaking an occasion dress, I think can work as an office dress with simple court shoes. Just not 100% sure if it’s too much.

It’s a meeting in the office followed by dinner and drinks.

If it wasn’t for the Bardot style, I wouldn’t question it and would have worn it as it’s very me. My style is feminine and tailored, if that makes sense.

What do you think?

If you wore it with a jacket it would be fine I think. After all sleeveless shift dresses with a jacket have been suitable for smart workplaces for years.

All workplaces are different though so really it depends on yours!

Definitely not for lots of reasons

Fairylightsongs · 11/02/2022 12:21

That’s an evening dress, I’d find it very odd if you turned up at work in an evening occasion dress or to meet a client for lunch. It is not business attire.

ambushedbywine · 11/02/2022 12:21

No from me. If it had a very structure bottom half maybe but it’s too floaty to have strappy top half.

KimikosNightmare · 11/02/2022 12:22

@christingle2

I think the dress is fine for dinner/drinks

As for work, it depends on your workplace dress code.

I work in finance within civil service; that dress wouldn’t be out of place in my office as we have an ambiguous “smart/casual” dress code. I feel like I would be overdressed for the occasion in it though, also don’t like the straps as it looks like bra straps.

I think sleeveless dresses/tops can look smart for work, depends on the person I suppose. Someone with the right figure and general classy demeanour could pull it off.

I would think that dress looked very odd in a Civil Service or fincial services situation except possibly on very junior staff who might know better.

Might not know better. I'd be taken aback if I turned up to a meeting with a civil and they were wearing that.

I think it looks too much like a party dress. I would also find it bizarre seeing someone with bare shoulders and arms this time of year when it's still so cold.

Definitely not a work dress! Have you tried looking here:

Lots of colour/ style options for similar budget

doadeer · 11/02/2022 16:03

What industry are you? I personally think that dress looks a bad fit. It.doesnt look right on the model which makes me think it wouldn't look great on us mere mortals

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 11/02/2022 17:10

@Thewindwhispers

If you wear a jacket or pashmina to cover your shoulders it’s ok. Naked shoulders at work distracts your male colleagues, particularly those from more traditional cultures. and so is unprofessional… Unless you work in rock music or something 🤣
1970 phoned. It wants its misogynistic attitude towards women in the workplace back.
llansannan21 · 11/02/2022 18:34

A no from me. Especially not in winter.
