Help! My skin is so sore

tiredandveryhungry · 28/01/2022 08:27

A combination of Covid/various sickness bugs/cold weather and lack of fresh air has left my skin feeling very sore and dry. It's also sensitive so I can't use harsh products.

I'm looking to buy a lovely product to soothe it and help it out. I'm thinking maybe a nice face mask or cream. I'm happy for something that can be used on a daily basis or weekly.

Any recommendations? Bonus points if i can get it from John Lewis.

I’ve got the same at the moment, my skin is very dry and itchy. I swear by the big blue pots of nivea. So cheap and I just slather it on at night, it makes such a difference!!!

Iamnotamermaid · 28/01/2022 08:32

Body Shop - Hemp overnight nourishing rescue mask

createda · 28/01/2022 09:00

Weleda skin food is amazing.
You could also try using virgin coconut oil - available from any supermarket. Warm up a couple of tablespoons and rub onto damp skin after the shower and then pat dry. Rosehip and avocado oil are also good for this. A few drops of rosehip are also great as a face moisturiser.

Aveeno products x

Gabbiadini · 28/01/2022 09:04

I’ve just had to use Vaseline for the last week for the same problem. Every other cream made my face sting and go red.

KillingMeDeftly · 28/01/2022 09:05

Sali Hughes did a video this week about the best products for post-Covid skin that might be helpful OP? I didn't get on well with the LRP Toleriane moisturiser she recommends but I've found Avene's Tolerance range works for me.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/01/2022 09:14

CeraVe

DidgeDoolittle · 28/01/2022 11:03

LRP Cicaplast Baume 5 is brilliant for sore skin. My skin reacted badly to tretinion and was very sore. This sorted it out very quickly

Thinkle · 28/01/2022 12:13

I had this during the cold snap before Christmas. My eyelids in particular were very sore. I went for Aesop Damascan rose oil based on reviews and within two applications had fixed my skin. I now use to around three days a week before moisturiser.
And I can claim bonus points as John Lewis sell it!

Milomonster · 28/01/2022 13:18

Mustela emollient balm is the most soothing cream I’ve ever used (as an eczema sufferer). I use it as my daily moisturiser. It was designed for babies and is very gentle. I use a face oil underneath (rosehip or argan).

Minesnotahighhorse · 28/01/2022 16:17

I second the LRP Cicaplast B5 or Avene Cicalfate - both really soothing and recommended to me by a dermatologist for winter skin.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/01/2022 16:39

CeraVe is amazing
You could put a smear of Sudocrem underneath for the really sore places too

Kjr33 · 28/01/2022 17:38

Aveeno Or LRP are really good for this sort of thing. I have a ceramide comfort cream from cosrx which is my go to when my skin is struggling.

wankywomble · 28/01/2022 20:09

LRP Cicaplast Baume is so soothing and I use it as does my DD for when we have overdone the actives. So good at repairing the skin barrier.

Lndnmummy · 28/01/2022 20:33

OP I see many have recommended "natural" options like coconut oil ans rosehip oil. Be aware that there are many allergens in those products. My skin burns like crazy from rosehip oil. Also be aware overloading the skin with too heavy cream. The skin is most likely inflamed rather than dry. Avene does a serum that you can keep in the fridge for an extra cooling effect.

willowstar · 28/01/2022 21:10

CeraVe moisturising cream.

ineedakip · 28/01/2022 21:11

Aveeno or double base

tiredandveryhungry · 28/01/2022 22:37

Thanks so much everyone. I will have a look at these products and see what might suit my skin best. @KillingMeDeftly that's a fascinating link thanks. I didn't even realise that Covid could have that effect on your skin but when I think about it more, it's actually worse since testing positive. I just want to buy everything now!

I would heartily recommend something like La Roche Posay Baume B5 cream - it's very soothing and great for sensitive skin.

I love Weleda Skin Food but I'd start slow - I think it contains essential oils, which can be a trigger for sensitive skin. I'd also be careful with coconut oil - it breaks me out every time!

AuntieStella · 29/01/2022 20:23

Nivea - I'd go for the white pots rather than the blue.

Or this stuff - utterly brilliant!!

I wrote my post I while before I pressed Send and I see that I'm not alone with my love for LRP Baume B5! Anything with cica or centella is very soothing.

@kjr33 How does the Cosrx one compare to the LRP Baume B5? I've very nearly bought it many times and then resolved to use up my B5 first!

MonicaGellerBing · 29/01/2022 20:45

Definitely Aveeno

bippityboppity87 · 29/01/2022 20:57

Honestly, I would try E45 moisturiser. Safflower oil is also pretty good. You don't want anything with too mainly chemicals or ingredients in it, or you'll just make it worse and irritated

So washing face with just water from the sink and then either the oil or E45 cream

MaximoosesMum · 29/01/2022 21:03

Just getting better from covid. Had a horrible sore dry nose, Any moisturiser was stinging, so I tried aloe from my aloe Vera plant, helped so much and looks so much better now.
