Please can you advise.

I am fair skinned and have very white legs. I am going on holiday in March and would like to start using a gradual tanning product.

I want an easy to use, natural looking one, that doesn't have a biscuit smell.

I have tried to google but as there are so many I come away confused. So I am on here looking for recommendations.

Thank you

I second the isle of paradise tanning drops to mix with your normal moisturiser.

I do like dove too but it needs doing everything day for me (I'm very fair) tanning drops can be upped or reduced depending on how tanned you want to be.

Aldi also do these tanning drops for a third of the price of IoP - they aren't excellent!

I had an Avon self tan last year. Really easy to use and smelt almost pleasant.

Sorry - *are excellent!

St Tropez gradual tan is the best one I have found (not the shower one - just the regular gradual tan). It's more expensive than some but worth it. I have pale skin too and the light/ medium one is just brilliant.

The biggest issue with the shower tan is standing shivering with the water off while it “cooks”

RampantIvy · 27/01/2022 21:23

Dove for me as well.

Thanks all. I have a couple of months until I go away, so will trial a couple of your suggestions. I may start with the Dove.

I've tried £££ ones and £ ones and now i just use Fake It Don't Bake It. Which is a £ one :)

It's really all about the application - once you've got the hang of one you've got the hang of them all. I apply it using those vinyl gloves that come in a box of 20 or whatever for a pound and one pair of gloves lasts 4/5 applications if you don't screw them up taking them off. No worrying about orange knuckles.

However i find that all these application tans wear off quickly if you wear tights or your skinny jeans or go swimming.

@apinions I just applied mine again this morning, there isn't a strong scent of anything, I mean it has a very faint delicate smell like a plain moisturiser would have or a very mild handwash but nothing that you would think was fake tan, it doesn't have a scent that lingers. I know what you mean though, many fake tans especially cheap ones and the likes of st tropez and xen tan have quite strong and obvious fake tan smell that is awful, especially when it gets into the bedsheets.

Also very pale, white and blond hair now. Johnson's Holiday skin, start with the lightest shade. Similar to Dove, which I've also used

jeaux90 · 28/01/2022 09:40

@apinions as the other poster said no not really. Very faint. But also no MI (methylisothiazolinone) in it either which a lot of them and other beauty products have. EU looking at banning products with this in as about 20% are allergic to it including myself. (It's in shampoo, clothes washing products etc)

The cheaper end of the range is Palmers gradual tan which just smells like cocoa butter.

I think the Tan Luxe products are excellent, especially the gradual tan which I've used for years. However, I've also been using St Tropez Purity bronzing water which has very little smell, is very light and gives a good golden colour. Easy to apply to, I spritz it on and rub in with a tanning mitt.
