Experiences of Vinted

I need to start over with my wardrobe. I’m 46 & stuck for what to wear. I’d like to try & buy better quality clothes but don’t have loads of spare money. I had a look at Vinted for the first time today and saw some lovely things.
I thought perhaps I could use this to buy some things from better quality brands I’ve never tried before. But I’m a bit hesitant in case I buy and it doesn’t fit or suit or not good condition, I will have wasted money as can’t return like you would to a shop. I’ve bought from ebay in the past & had this problem a couple of times.
I’m just wondering what people’s experiences here are of using it?

My stuff sells quickly on there. But I don't care, as I usually want rid of it. I do price things cheaply and only sell nice stuff, usually new

Rainbowbrite2022 · 31/01/2022 08:13

I’ve never sold anything but I’ve only had positives of buying from Vinted in the last 6 months. I use the filters and search brands I like. I select the condition/ colour/size. Whatever specifically I’m looking for and it’s great and easy to use. Everything has been sent in a decent amount of time and described correctly. I’ve barely bought anything new from shops recently, I’m not a huge shopper but it’s saving me money and better to be recycling clothes.

@LadyGoddiva

I've had an odd experience.

Selling, I find it annoying when I get notifications of 'Likes'.
Why? Why are people 'liking' but not buying?

I also had someone who liked and messaged me she wanted to buy and I said yes, great, thanks- and she never bought.

I took my items off after about 2 months and they sold on ebay in a week.

I like things when I’m browsing. I can then go back and decide if I like it enough to buy it later on. It stops me making a rash purchase. I could be on my work break if not have time to do the full purchase. If I decide not to buy I unlike it.

Sometimes sellers also send you a private message with an offer if you’ve liked it so like 50p/£1 off the price for example.

@Sooverthemill glad you got to go out! Keep keep keep that sweater. It really suits you.

BabyInTheJungle · 02/02/2022 08:21

Hmm I'm revising my opinion this morning. Have had such a good experience selling so far but some of the offers I've received in the past few days have bordered on an insult... Confused I admire the brass neck of some people but I've priced the stuff extremely reasonably to start with, don't offer me half fgs Hmm

FrancescaContini · 02/02/2022 08:23

My 15 year old DD loves it as it’s really cheap.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/02/2022 08:37

I need to start selling.

Can someone explain the process to me please?

I’m a total newbie. How do I package stuff and do I take it to the Post Office?

BabyInTheJungle · 02/02/2022 09:29

Download the app for the easiest way to sell. Take photos on your phone to upload. It takes you through each stage step by step.

Buy packaging from the pound shop or reuse any of you have it in the house. I've reused lots of packaging. You select what size the parcel will be so the buyer knows how much the shipping will cost.

You can offer postage via RM, Hermes or yodel. I prefer Hermes as the parcel shop is near my house. The buyer pays for a shipping label which you print and attach the to the parcel. I find that the easiest but others might prefer other methods.

AllisoninWunderland · 02/02/2022 10:01

I really like it. I’ve only sold on there but it’s very easy. I find it quicker to use and simpler than eBay.
Be warned though, price your items at a slightly higher price than you actually want for them as people barter with you before buying! I learned the hard way selling a Maje blouse for peanuts.

You update your settings to what kind of postage you will offer (Royal Mail, Yodel, Hermes, UPS) then when someone buys it they will select which of those postage methods they want to pay for. This generates a shipping label with their details on it and you print and stick to the parcel and then drop off with which ever postal service they have chosen. Its all tracked (apart from RM) so both you and the buyer know when its been delivered.

Thank you @Chishnfips

I love it! I sell and pretty much spend whatever I make Confused I’ve had to put a ban on myself as I just have far too much! It’s really friendly and as others have said the seller doesn’t get the payment until you’ve confirmed you have the item and you’re happy with it so it’s in the sellers best interest to send things that are good quality. Clean, no rips etc.

No3No2No1 · 02/02/2022 11:48

Can you sell if you don't have a printer?

delilahbucket · 02/02/2022 11:57

I did really rate it, but I've had two not as described purchases and the final straw was a horrid and abusive seller hounding me with messages over returning some shoes they had long since refunded me for that were so far beyond described it was unreal, and they started within three hours of deciding they wanted them back, saying they would report me for not returning them. Initially I just replied "you haven't even given me chance to return them" and then the messages got nastier and nastier. DS had Covid, I had Covid, no one was going anywhere near a post office, and apparently I should have just been getting on with life regardless. I wish I'd have checked their feedback as it wasn't just me. There was no way of reporting the seller to Vinted and I couldn't even leave feedback. I deleted my account just to stop them. They really were vile.
I don't like eBay either, had some dire purchases on there and while the buyer protection is good, I hate how they treat sellers.
I'm going to try depop next.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/02/2022 12:07

If you don’t get the money until the buyer receives the item, is the money held by a third party?

AprilLady · 02/02/2022 12:15

I’ve only tried selling and definitely have mixed feelings about Vinted. I’ve had some really good interactions with buyers, including some good natured bartering, which has been nice. But I’ve priced items fairly to start (looked at eBay pricing for the same item, and priced a little below the lowest buy-it-now price on ebay), so the buyers offering ridiculously low prices are somewhat annoying.

Most annoying are those who barter you down until you agree an offer and then still don’t go through with the purchase. This has happened to me 3 times in the last month.

I moved two items to eBay in the last few days and they sold quickly for a price the same as that I’d agreed on Vinted with buyers who didn’t follow through. On eBay at least if someone makes you an offer which you accept, it’s binding on them.

This has been my exact experience the past few days and has annoyed me.

I used to politely reply to every message/offer but I've stopped with the ridiculously low ones as I don't know how to phrase 'are you fucking kidding me?' more politely...

ldn7813 · 02/02/2022 13:04

I just sold a pair of new Paul smith socks on Vinted, posted the item out with first class, everything went smooth except few days after the delivery, the buyer just can't be bothered to confirm he's got the item even ignored my messages. I then approached the customer service all they suggest is wait for 8 working days for the buyer to confirm unless I can prove the item is delivered. Obviously I've sent them untracked..Is it that you have to wait for a whole month to get your fund released if the buyers not confirmed on their side? Thats annoyingConfused

SpamIAm · 09/02/2022 12:17

@ldn7813 the money gets released automatically after the 8 days as long as the buyer doesn't report a problem.

@JayAlfredPrufrock money is taken by Vinted at the point of purchase, then held by them until the buyer confirms receipt. So there's a bit of a wait for your money, but no risk of the buyer not paying up after you've sent it. No idea what happens if the buyer reports a problem though!

Sge995 · 01/09/2022 22:05

I’ve just reached my £2,500 mark!!! Love vinted!!! You can sell literally everything
