I need to start over with my wardrobe. I’m 46 & stuck for what to wear. I’d like to try & buy better quality clothes but don’t have loads of spare money. I had a look at Vinted for the first time today and saw some lovely things.
I thought perhaps I could use this to buy some things from better quality brands I’ve never tried before. But I’m a bit hesitant in case I buy and it doesn’t fit or suit or not good condition, I will have wasted money as can’t return like you would to a shop. I’ve bought from ebay in the past & had this problem a couple of times.
I’m just wondering what people’s experiences here are of using it?

Sorry, they don't HAVE to buy it. They aren't committed to the purchase. But if they want it they have to complete the purchase even after offer is accepted.

That wasn't very clear in my last post!

AllisoninWunderland · 26/01/2022 17:17

I’ve not bought on it but am having a bit of luck with selling stuff. Been really impressed with how easy it is.
One thing to know about it is that people barter you down. So the price you see might not be the price you end up paying. I learnt that the hard way! So now I price things about a third higher than the price I actually want to receive.
HTH!

@psuedocream3

I'm a fan, but I tend to buy from brands I know well and look for specific items from past seasons that I had my eye on but couldn't justify even the sale prices at the time. I haven't ever been disappointed and saved an absolute fortune on retail price.
I do this as well - I have my favourite brands, know my size and love it. I'm doing a "buy nothing new" challenge this year and Vinted is really helping!
Katshouldnotswim · 26/01/2022 17:25

Quite the opposite for me… just had a too described as a jumper which was in fact jersey, a blazer that I paid for and was never posted and a blouse too.

Got my money back eventually but it kind of put me off…

CrimbleCrumble1 · 26/01/2022 17:27

My friend has done well selling her stuff on Vinted. She then used some of the profit she made to buy some bits from there. She seems pleased with it but the clothes, bag and purse she bought all look old and worn to me. They were mega cheap though.

londonmummy1966 · 26/01/2022 17:27

I've just started selling there and it is working well for me - at the moment I'm double listing on ebay too and it does seem that there is a different demographic between the two.

The other place you might look is thrift+ - it is not as cheap but they check everything as it comes in and don't list subpar stuff and there is a no quibble return policy so definitely worth it for more expensive items. It's also nice that most things there are partially sold for charity.

Thanks, it does sound like it’s not uncommon to have buyers not follow through on offers.

@AllisoninWunderland, yes, the bartering has taken me by surprise and I’ll price things a bit differently in future.

IcyWinterWonderland · 29/01/2022 20:02

I love vinted. I have had so many amazing things from there

IWasFunBeforeMum · 29/01/2022 20:03

Really easy.

LadyGoddiva · 29/01/2022 20:05

I've had an odd experience.

Selling, I find it annoying when I get notifications of 'Likes'.
Why? Why are people 'liking' but not buying?

I also had someone who liked and messaged me she wanted to buy and I said yes, great, thanks- and she never bought.

I took my items off after about 2 months and they sold on ebay in a week.

Littlemiss74 · 29/01/2022 20:21

I’ve had another look and seen some nice things new with tags on. For those who sell, out of interest, why do people sell new with tags items? Is it just that people have maybe changed their minds or item doesn’t fit etc and too late to return? I think I’d be quite tempted to buy something new with tags if I was used to the brand and knew it would fit etc.

I’ve bought loads and am slightly addicted. I’ve renewed my ski gear plus bought a designer jacket and a couple of work suits wuite cheaply and the condition has always been good. It is a bit hit and miss sizing wise, not least because between French, Italian and UK sizing people tend to get muddled up and list it with the number they see on the label. Plus a size 10 is listed as medium! I also try to go with brands I know, but even then there are variables.

I try to buy only designer or branded stuff I wouldn’t normally shell out for, so that limits my spending.

I need to start selling, if only to make room for my new purchases. I’ve taken loads of photos but not quite got around to putting them up. Maybe I’ll try my first one tomorrow.

The only slightly annoying thing is that children’s clothes go for very little. I have a ton of nice branded stuff which is practically new and I’d like to get more than €5 or €10. Maybe I should eBay those instead.

I'm going to be trying to sell a White Stuff jersey dress that has tags. I bought it for work, then work changed, and I don't feel it really suits me now.I know people may think I've worn it and just pinned the label back on but I am an honest person! I am also going to try to sell a new cashmere jumper for my elderly aunt- brand new from M&S - she bought a size (online) and decided too late that it was in fact too big for her.
grownup2 · 29/01/2022 21:48

In my experience as a buyer, Vinted is cheap, fun and casual. Descriptions tend to be more limited than on eBay so I have to be careful to study the photos carefully and/or ask questions (they are usually answered and honestly). Since descriptions are limited, search is limited too. It can take a while to identify good items, but if you find a seller with a similar taste to you, you can get a good deal on a bundle. There are some sellers who seem to just want to find a good home for their items, even if sold cheaply. I've bought quite a few from
nonna1919 who is selling off exquisitely made items from their Italian grandmother's clothes shop. The more you buy, the cheaper.

BodgertheJogger · 29/01/2022 21:53

I love Vinted. Had some really good stuff at good prices considering the brands that I've bought.
As others have said, put £1 on top for buyer's fees and the postage and packaging generally works out at around £3 on top of the item price.
You can make offers also.

Dinnertime22 · 29/01/2022 22:42

As a seller although items may go for cheaper than on Ebay, there are no fees.
Ebay take a decent amount off any items sold, so it works out better on Vinted.

sunshineforest · 30/01/2022 07:52

I've bought a couple of things that were supposed to be sent by Hermes and never turned up so haven't bothered since

I 'like' items when I'm looking for something specific to make a list in my favourites then I can look at all of them and decide on final purchase. I 'unlike' afterwards to clear my favourites .

I can't think of any other reason for liking something. I see it as a temporary selection tool.

No following up on offers with a final answer is simply bad manners. Maybe they forgot or couldn't be bothered (which would be rude).

StCharlotte · 30/01/2022 13:41

Yes pretty much this in my case Grin

I sell on Vinted and although I was initially a bit disappointed with the low pricing, I'm just glad stuff is going to a good home rather than gathering dust in my wardrobe. Am about to upload a load of occasion dresses now that this year's wedding invitations are starting to come in and they're dresses that have only been worn once Blush

As for sizing, I think the prices are low enough you can afford the odd mistake. I tend to mark an item "generous size 18" if something comes up a bit big for example.

grownup2 · 30/01/2022 14:00

I quite often get offers of reductions on liked things, either immediately or if it hasn't sold after a while.

J7510 · 30/01/2022 22:56

Vinted is great

So easy to sell and buy.
Lots of bargains and unusual finds.
I ask questions to the seller to get a good feel for a item. Easy to ask questions to the seller and people reply quickly if they want to sell something(in my experience.)

Hapoydayz · 30/01/2022 22:59

I've bought some great stuff from vinted. Really easy, nothing bad yet!

Bikerbunnies · 30/01/2022 23:05

I've had only good experiences with Vinted. I buy and sell on there and find it much better value than ebay. Yes I've made a few mistakes but I just re sell them.

SpamIAm · 31/01/2022 07:59

I've only sold, not bought. I'd say generally people want stuff cheap but I'm not selling anything designer or particularly high quality.

I sell things new with tags because I buy too much stuff and end up with things that have never been worn and either don't fit me or don't suit my style anymore. Nothing suspicious! More than once just because I've missed the window to return things as well 🙈

Things not fitting is just the risk you take buying from a site like that, but do feel free to ask for more details on the sizing particularly if you're buying a more expensive item. I've had my tape measure out many a time after potential buyers have asked for detailed measurements. The sizing that you have to select on Vinted is pretty unhelpful, e.g. S/8 or M/10. So if I have something that's a medium but fits like a 12-14 then I select medium because that's the size on the label but will then put in the description that it's like a 12-14.

Postage is pretty good I think because you can choose your courier from whichever ones the seller has activated. So, e.g., if your local Hermes delivery person is shocking then you can just avoid choosing Hermes. They do deals often as well for say 99p delivery to a Hermes shop or similar.

BabyInTheJungle · 31/01/2022 08:02

I listed yesterday loads of BNWT baby stuff I'd been given as gifts and didn't manage to get on the babies at the right time. I'd sold most of it within an hour or two so wondering if it was a little too cheap Grin never mind. I'm happy for it to find a good home that isn't mine!
