My keratosis pilaris is no more-is

I’ve always had KP on my arms, upper arms as well as forearms. Used various exfoliators, urea creams, glycolic etc. They helped but never eradicated it completely.

But about two months ago I started taking daily Vit D supplements (I use the Better You spray in the red bottle. Costs about a fiver) and I noticed about 6 weeks later, whilst idly stroking my arms, that all my KP had vamoosed. Nothing else in my routine has changed so this is the only thing I can put it down to. It's such a novelty for me having silky smooth arms.

Worth a try if anyone else would like to get rid of those pesky bumps.

Interesting. Mine is always better in the sun, I'd sort of assumed it was due to using more creams, spf, aloe Vera etc. maybe it's the increased vitamin d...

GiantHaystacks2021 · 24/01/2022 12:35

Or use Scholl foot cream on the back of your arms. Any cream with 5% or 10% urea in it will clear it right up.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/01/2022 12:37

I tried urea creams and they helped a bit but didn't get rid of it.

I take Vit D but haven’t noticed any difference to my arms. Can I ask how much you’re taking?

catfunk · 24/01/2022 12:41

Ooh interesting.
Mine sometimes flares up worse in the sun, sort of turns into itchy hives!
I currently keep on top of it with ameliorate and a Korean cloth. But it's never gone away.

moonlight1705 · 24/01/2022 12:44

That's interesting, mine has turned into itchy hives with the cold/heat this last week.

I might get some vitamin D just to see how it goes.

3000 IU a day

How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I used to get this and it went of its own accord when I passed 40

NotsoNeurotypical · 24/01/2022 12:58

Mine went away from Epsom salt baths and magnesium supplements. I think it is often a sign of a deficiency but not always vitamin D

TooManyPJs · 24/01/2022 13:09

I take 4000iu a day and it's makes no difference to my KP sadly. Nor has taking magnesium.

I'm early 40s! So maybe the kp just gave up the ghost. Happy for it to be gone either way

Urea 100% worked for me.
The cream that you put on your feets.
Brilliant for KP - for me anyway.

Branleuse · 24/01/2022 14:01

occasionally if i use hair removal cream/veet/immac it does help it and i assumed that whatever dissolved the hair, was dissolving the keratin that was plugging the skin.
Im gonna try the vit D suppment too now, so thanks

Gwenhwyfar · 24/01/2022 18:17

"3000 IU a day"

I've been taking that amount throughout the pandemic and no difference to my KP.

No, the sun is supposed to be good.

Some people recommend IPL hair removal for it, but I don't know if it's totally proven yet.

Mine went away when I went on a gluten free diet.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 24/01/2022 19:04

Mine went away on my arms after taking vitamin d but I still have it on my upper legs.

M1RR0R · 24/01/2022 19:10

This is so interesting, my 4 year old son has this (middle child). I was wondering if it would go away after childhood, no amount of moisturiser will help. He also has very dry skin on his cheeks!
Following but I’m assuming his hairy arms will make it hard to notice when he’s an adult, I didn’t realise it got itchy though.

Tinkletwat · 25/01/2022 14:12

Mine always improves in the sun too. Took a punt on this a few months back and for me it's worked so much better than Ameliorate and is also cheaper www.boots.com/revolution-body-skincare-aha-smoothing-moisture-balm-10285408

I haven't had it on my arms for ages, but it just gets worse and worse on my upper legs.

Which cream? 100% urea is just urea surely?
traintraveller · 25/01/2022 16:54

Mine disappeared when I stopped using shower gel and moved to bar soap and a face cloth

Scottishnewbie2022 · 25/01/2022 16:57

Cerave Smoothing Cleanser really helps too

I'm on a gluten free diet, take loads of Vit D and have had limited success with Urea creams. I think I am resigned to having it at this stage!
