No sorry, they'll be crap.

They will.

GHDS are well wirth the money!! I have 2 pairs!

If not then these are the next best thing if you cant justify GHDS

Dont bother with anything else!

KittyLetteItSnow · 28/12/2007 17:08

wirth?!?! pmsl

KittyLetteItSnow · 28/12/2007 17:09

keep an eye on these

lilyloo · 28/12/2007 17:12

Have to agree with Kitty i spent that much on buying cheap hair starighteners that i should have just got GHD'S in the first place i really couldn't live without them now.

andaRubberDuckinapeartree · 28/12/2007 17:12

FHIs - cheaper and better than GHDs

naturalblonde · 28/12/2007 17:15

I got GHD's for Christmas from my lovely DP. Couldn't live without them. I would seriously think about selling my house for them!! (Might be homeless but at least I'd have good hair)

Think carefully about if you REALLY need to eat for a week or so and put food money towards GHD's!!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 17:18

I have some BaByliss ones that were reduced to about £40 which I bought 3 ish years ago but my hair has got a sod of a kink at the bottom, which I don't mind but when I am trying for the straight and groomed look it annoys me.

Kitty - that ebay link are they the ones you meant and are they new?

Have £50 off my MIL for Xmas but don't want to waste it if a mistake.

KittyLetteItSnow · 28/12/2007 17:22

Yea, and they are the newest version MK4 too,

it says in the title, 'brand new' and they have 100% positive feedback, i would go for them!

But dont bid yet wait till nearer the end

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 17:37

I rushed to answer you so didn't read the whole thing

Will keep an eye, thanks.

Anybody else got them?

OP posts:
Nbgdoesnthaveachristmasname · 28/12/2007 17:40

Don't get them!

I've had loads of GHD copies and they've all been crap.
Well I say crap, they last for about 2 years and they starighten your hair but no where near as good as the real thing.

I've just bought some GHD's today online. £105 for the new version incl next day delivery, heat mat and heat protecting spray.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 17:41

They are in my magazine which is why I thought I would ask you wise people. DH thinks I just want them to be like everyone else. Has taken years but I want to start looking after myself a bit.

Have you tried GHD's Nab?

Honestly they really are different to other straightners, hence the price tag.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 17:46

No, never tried them. Heard loads about them. Hesitating as I already have some straighteners.

OP posts:
Nbgdoesnthaveachristmasname · 28/12/2007 17:48

If you could try them out I think it would give you the nudge to buy them

There is a seller on ebay that sells the original style of ghds for £75 which bisnt as bad.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 17:49

I really regret having my hair cut. I wouldn't have had so much off if I had known how short it would end up.

OP posts:
Nbgdoesnthaveachristmasname · 28/12/2007 17:52

Oh no

Well ghds could make all the difference!

MummyPenguin · 28/12/2007 19:40

I've got the normal width GHD's which I've had for 2 or 3 years. My hair's got quite a bit longer and I wanted some wide plate straighteners. I saw some Mark Hill ones in Boots reduced from £99.99 to £49.99. They're really good. Look out in Boots, OP, they might still have them in the sale. They had the normal width ones too. Try a couple of brances if you have to, in one branch of Boots the normal width ones weren't reduced so I went to another branch and they were.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 19:42

Hoping to go to Bluewater tmw, MP, do you have a link so I know what I amlooking for please? TIA.

babyliss 230 ones are on offer in most places for £40, usually they are £60 these have great reviews and have a 5 year guarantee. I upgraded from norma ceramic straightners to these babyliss 230 ones and the difference is unbelievable.

Magdeltwinkle · 28/12/2007 19:47

I tried Babyliss 230 approx £30-40 and they were just as good, if not better than GHD's. Ended up getting the GHD's anyway because DD insisted.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 19:54

These are mine - BaByliss ultra high heat solid ceramics. 230-240voltage. Slected personally by Trevor Sorbie!

MummyPenguin · 28/12/2007 20:01

Oh God, can't do links the mark Hill ones are in a dark pink (like cerise) box. The straighteners themselves are black and the plates are pink (same colour as the box.) It says Mark Hill clearly on the box. If you go to a large branch of Boots and head for the electrical hair section, where they have the dryers and so on, if they've got them you'll see them.

I was very sceptical after having GHD's for quite a while, but the MH ones are really good. They have adjustable temperature which GHD don't so that can take a bit of getting used to. Generally the hotter the better. They start at temp 120 and go up to 220. I have used them at 210. I think the GHD's are 220 degrees anyway, so it will be okay to use them at 210 or 220. Mine came with a nice bag to keep them in, more like a zip up case, which has a heatproof mat as part of it, and I got a 'style bible' and a Mark Hill gift card.

I've also heard good things about the Bbayliss pro 230

dinny · 28/12/2007 20:03

please please get GHDs! ask for money towards them for birthday? they are SO fab, honestly!

lou33 · 28/12/2007 20:07

oh well, i had this discussion with a good friend of mine the other day , she is a hairdresser with her own salon

she said any of the ones in supermarkets, cheapo jobs will be crap, ghd's are the best, but some straighteners use the same plates as ghd's for less money, and i bought a pair from her salon as a xmas gift for myself and my girls

they were about 50 quid

these

will post a pic of me with straight hair to show how well they work
