My 15 year old has really dry hands that are now bleeding & very cracked, I’ve tried lots of things even steroid cream from the doctor, lush dream cream, working hand cream e45 etc nothing much makes a difference
Just wondered if anyone had any miracle creams I didn’t know about, attached a photo

Shea Butter is great for this. In its purest, most natural state.

It's almost hard, you have to warm it up and then massage it is.

It's completely natural and great at healing dry or cracked skin. My hands weren't quite like this, but now they are a lot smoother.

I think L'Occitane offer something like this, at least they used to, in a small or large tin for at home or on the go.

ClaudineClare · 20/01/2022 15:44

Oh poor lad, that looks so sore. Maybe Aveeno with the blue cap applied through the day?

CluelessAboutClothes · 20/01/2022 15:55

Have you tried:

Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream
Robertsons Eczema Relief
The Good Soap's Hemp moisturiser

Cantgetausername87 · 20/01/2022 16:00

Working hands cream will sort it x

OnlyClothes · 20/01/2022 16:05

Is that sore hands or a skin condition? I’d be tempted to go to a pharmacist to make sure.

And Vaseline with gloves/socks all night works really well for me.

tulips27 · 20/01/2022 16:08

My suggestions (I have a similar issue):

Dove Deeply Nourishing Body Wash (SLS-free) or Baby Dove Rich Moisture Head to Toe Wash/Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Head to Toe Wash for hand washing instead of other soaps/liquid soaps.

Body shop hemp hand cream is excellent or shea as mentioned above. Or l'Occitane do very good shea hand creams but they are more expensive and have rose etc. scents.

JuneOsborne · 20/01/2022 16:11

Ouch, poor, poor lad.

Have you tried any anti fungal treatment?

Does he have proper cotton gloves? Whatever you apply will be helped along with putting cotton gloves over the top too.

I'd be tempted try la Roche Posay toleraine baume. It's expensive and only a small bottle.

Can the gp not offer anything else? I'd be going back and back again. Poor lad can't be expected to go around like that.

tulips27 · 20/01/2022 16:12

Sorry, looking again at the pics the way it's in patches makes me wonder if it's not related to contact with a particular material/substance.

www.superdrug.com/Health/Foot-Care/Athletes-Foot/Daktarin-Intensive-Cream-15g/p/207070

Try a few tubes of this, applied religiously, twice a day for 6 weeks.

LoveFall · 20/01/2022 16:34

I would suggest you might want to ask for a referral to a dermatologist. I am no doctor but have had allergies/eczema/contact dermatitis and to me that looks like more than dry skin.

Your poor son. I hope you find a solution. On his hands it is visible and exposed so people will notice.

Alayalaya · 20/01/2022 16:38

Another vote for Vaseline. I’ve also had success with squalane oil which is great but costs more.

daisyjgrey · 20/01/2022 16:42

I wouldn't be putting anything except Vaseline on that until I'd seen a dermatologist.

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 20/01/2022 16:49

Go to your pharmacist and ask for Epimax. It’s a new cream and it honestly works.

bicky · 20/01/2022 17:41

Thanks all, I’m trying to get a doctors appointment that’s a whole other story tbh I will keep trying though, going to try Vaseline tonight 🤞

Cerave but wouldn’t put it on broken skin. Get some zerobase for now and talk to your GP

BreadInCaptivity · 20/01/2022 18:03

That's not just dry skin.

He needs to see a GP again.

If it's continually cracked and bleeding it risks becoming infected.

If he's already tried steroids then it might be fungal or as a pp has suggested given its specific in certain areas, an allergic reaction.

Is there anything he does with his hands specifically (for example does he hold them together at night in such a way that the two sore area touch together) or use a certain product that those areas are more in contact with?

In the meantime he needs to keep his hands as clean as possible using gentle washing products and keep them as moisturised as possible.

MrsDThomas · 20/01/2022 22:23

Aveeno and cotton gloves. I was like this for years and sometimes the steroid cream/ointment made it worse and thinned my skin.

Certainly looks as if he needs a fungal cream. Must hurt so bad ☹️

How about using hydrocortisone cream before it gets so bad? Not as potent and doesn’t ruin the skin.

catfunk · 20/01/2022 22:57

Christ op please push for a derm appointment. That's not just dry skin.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/01/2022 23:26

Are you using anti bacterial hand wash ? Mine get like that if I do. I switched to plain bars of soap and it clears up.

CeraVe cream is excellent.

RedSoloCup · 20/01/2022 23:40

I had issues like this with one particular shampoo, (in my case tresemme) as soon as I changed it disappeared in case that helps

Inthesameboatatmo · 21/01/2022 12:13

Salcura bio derm spray from Holland and Barratt then lots of aqueous cream on top at night

WellTidy · 21/01/2022 12:31

I wouldn’t put anything on that at all. I was all set to recommend the 25% Shea intensive balm from occitane, but I’m not as his skin is broken. That needs a medical professional. You could ask a pharmacist for their opinion if you’re having problems making an appointment with a doctor.

INeedNewShoes · 21/01/2022 12:33

It would be worth trying an anti-fungal cream but I would 100% talk to a pharmacist. They tend to be very knowledgable about skin things.

I have had eczema for years and was surprised to have a GP tell me that some particularly stubborn dry skin on my face had a fungal infection at its root.

Milomonster · 21/01/2022 15:09

Mustela Emollient Balm is the most soothing and moisturizing cream. I have had eczema on my hands since being a baby. I’ve tried various creams. Mustela is the only thing I use now. It can be found in the baby section of good pharmacies. All natural and no fragrance.
I use it as my daily face cream too and skin looks great.

yaboreme · 21/01/2022 15:31

Zerobase - it's amazing! Gentle on the skin too.
