Is this too babyish for 6 year old?

It’s for a present and the recipient is the youngest in year 2 and I’m wondering if she or her friends will think it’s a bit ‘childish’ . I also like a similar one with various vehicles - boats, helicopters, planes on and have the same concern about that too. I’m not sure what 6-8 year olds consider acceptable these days.

Yes. I'd say that looked like a toddler dress.

ISeeTheLight · 17/01/2022 20:33

My 8 yo has dresses like that from Boden and loves them.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/01/2022 20:33

Five tops for that dress.

massiveblob · 17/01/2022 20:34

Mine would have not worn that post age 2/3

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 17/01/2022 20:36

My 7yo DD would say no to that, she's more into unicorns and sequins though as are all the other girls in her class (year 3) H&M is usually pretty good for things that are age appropriate but also 'trendy' for that age group.

Rno3gfr · 17/01/2022 20:36

I think it’s cute but depends on the child. I would probably only go for that if I knew the child would be into it

Prinnny · 17/01/2022 20:37

Agree with PP too toddlerish.

ColdinNovember · 17/01/2022 20:37

I think it’s a bit ‘young’ but depends on the child. Word of warning as well I have bought ‘ex-mini boden’ from eBay that has turned to be quite obvious and poor quality fakes.

Enough4me · 17/01/2022 20:38

Yes with ducks is a bit young. If it was cats, dogs or unicorns it would probably be fine.

mogschristmascalamity · 17/01/2022 20:41

My daughter is 7 and wears the same style but with flying saucers on. Shes tall so its worn as a tunic.

eagerlywaitingfor · 17/01/2022 20:41

Don't like it at all, sorry.

Agree with another pp, it's a toddler dress. The proportions are all wrong for an older child, it's as wide as it is long.

skgnome · 17/01/2022 20:44

It’s a bit on the young side
Lovely print, and if you know the girl and she loves ducks she may love it
Also, size 6? If she’s turning 6 I would go for something 6-8 or 7-8, unless the girl is quite petite

pradavilla · 17/01/2022 20:45

Yes, I wouldn't even buy that for my 4yr old.

AntiHop · 17/01/2022 20:46

My 7 year old wouldn't wear that

DillDanding · 17/01/2022 20:46

Yes - it's a toddler's dress.

Barrawarra · 17/01/2022 20:47

I think my just turned 6yr old would wear that, perhaps not love. Like pp says I’d definitely go for size 7-8 unless child is very petite.

Agathacrustie · 17/01/2022 20:50

I’m really glad I posted. You’ve nearly all confirmed my suspicions. It’s interesting about possible fakes on eBay. I’d like it to be good quality as it’s going to be passed down a few times.

Too “childish” for a six-year-old? She’s literally a small child! It’s perfectly fine OP - looks comfy and practical and not too garish. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at a kid that age in a little animal-print tunic, but there’s nothing more cringe-inducing than parents who dress their primary-agreed kids in mini-me adult style outfits Hmm

FortySeven · 17/01/2022 20:50

Primary-aged that should say!

arghdilema · 17/01/2022 20:52

I have a 7 year old, I think it's too babyish sorry. Agree with pp about sequins and unicorns. I tend to buy from John Lewis, not babyish but not too grown up.

Coughee · 17/01/2022 20:53

There’s something in between mini adult clothes and this though surely? There is definitely something toddlerish about the design of this dress but it doesn’t mean the op has to now go and buy a pair of ripped jeans and a cropped top.

AlwaysinaFlap · 17/01/2022 20:58

Too babyish.

Antssausagedog · 17/01/2022 21:03

It’s lovely for a toddler. Not so much for a six year old.

AcceptCookies · 17/01/2022 21:16

Oh gosh, my 6 year old would love it..! But I've just learnt from this thread that she's clearly not "cool"! So yes, I'd say it depends on whether the 6 year old you know is "cool" or not. Mine likes everything to do with animals and nature, being outside, wellies, mud... but also loves a dress, so this would be great for her.

Agree with others though - I'd buy my (small to average sized) 6 year old at least size 7-8. Mine is an August baby, so also youngest in year 2 - but always better to buy too big than risk it being too small :)

IHaveToSay · 17/01/2022 21:22

I have a 6 year old who is the youngest in year 2. I don’t think she’d wear that. She certainly isn’t into ‘mini adult’ clothing like jeans and crop tops but there is a middle ground… she likes leggings and hoodies (her current favourite is a Harry Potter hoodie), t-shirts with sequins on, cord pinafore dresses etc. I couldn’t see any of her friends wearing that dress either.
She would have loved it when she was 4.
