Inspired by the expensive products that are a waste of money thread….

What cheaper, high street beauty switches would you recommend? I could do with saving some money!

The Ordinary are quite good, and Boots have recently bought out a similar cheap range.

Aldi skincare stuff is popular.

I’m using Dermatica (prescription skincare) so need the most basic of creams for night time.I use something for eczema sufferers.

The best sunscreen spf 50 I’ve found is the Nivea Shine control one which is about £7 which is pretty reasonable.

TheWeeDonkey · 14/01/2022 19:42

I rate the Lacura skincare range, especially the Q10 dupe and the Caviar cream.

I like Garnier BB cream, it makes a great primer too. Primark Perfect Finish is a surprisingly good foundation and less than a fiver!

DaffodilPot · 14/01/2022 19:43

Keep thinking I should try the Aldi range

Catrice is excellent, JustMyLook sell it in the UK with free postage. The hydrating foundation, loose powder and concealer are all fantastic.

Primark eyebrow pencils are the best I have tried by a mile.

Nuffaluff · 14/01/2022 20:07

I swear by Atrixo hand cream, the big green tub.
It makes my hands feel better than more expensive ones and it’s only £4.

Flockameanie · 14/01/2022 20:10

Simple light moisturiser is decent

I like the Body Shop camomile cleansing balm, which is ÂŁ11

StrongSunglasses · 14/01/2022 20:16

Lipcote to keep lipstick in place for hours - only a couple of quid and works really well đź‘„

Geamhradh · 14/01/2022 20:24

Nivea Q10 night cream is excellent and costs about ÂŁ4 from places like Savers and Home Bargains. One of the best night creams I've used

Nip & Fab Teen Skin has exactly the same ingredients and percentage of BHAs as Paula's choice.

Nivea Blue Tub/Astral

Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream is the best on the market. Tiny tube lasts 300 applications. Costs about a fiver. Ditto the body lotion.

@Nuffaluff, years ago Atrixo was reputed to be almost exactly the same composition as something really really expensive. I can't remember what now, possibly Creme de la Mer. Apparently there was only one ingredient difference.

Herbal Essences range with avocado that's 98% vegan and without silicones and phosphates- best shampoo DD and I gave used on our curly girl hair (used ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ stuff from salons and beauty retailers but nothing has come close to the Herbal Essences)

Appalonia · 14/01/2022 20:39

I got a great eyebrow pencil for my light eyebrows from Wilco Essence range. Their mascara are good too.
I also got a fantastic nude lipstick from Primark. The only problem I have with budget make-up is that the packinging can be quite flimsy and can break easily.

Appalonia · 14/01/2022 20:42

Simple range is excellent if you have sensitive skin and very reasonably priced.

tigerbear · 14/01/2022 20:48

@Appalonia agree, the best nude lipstick I’ve ever bought was from Primark.
Best mascara is Technic or Lash Essence from Wilko

GingerbreadVanMan · 14/01/2022 21:05

Another vote for essence eyebrow pencil and I absolutely love the Aldi hemp hand cream, it really does a good job.

Musmerian · 14/01/2022 21:25

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth cleanser. It’s just as good as the Liz Earle one and cheap as chips. They usually have a BOGOF so I stock up. Simple eye make up remover also great.

EmergencyHydrangea · 14/01/2022 21:25

I love superdrugs naturally radiant range

Kanfuzed123 · 14/01/2022 21:37

Skincare- cerave, cetaphil, the inkey list and the ordinary
Makeup - love maybelline mascaras, there’s 2 pink ones that I really rate, lash sensational maybe?
Elf putty primer - dupe for a really high end one. Nyx skinny brow pencil good copy of the benefit one. I’ve heard the elf brow stuff is quite good too. Some revolution stuff is quite good too, particularly their collabs and cheap as chips too. I like the maybelline 24 hr superstay foundation too. Milani blush is lovely too

Muminabun · 14/01/2022 22:12

I like L’Oréal age perfect cleansing milk, e45 lotion in the big pump dispenser is £5 and lasts ages, Sainsbury’s do a pure soap 4 in a pack which is brilliant for dry skin, another vote for Primark eye brow pencils, Pantene shampoo and conditioner. Body shop hand creams.

WhyYesYABU · 14/01/2022 22:57

Primark

WhyYesYABU · 14/01/2022 22:58

Whoops ! Primark pink mascara is great and I've tried MAC, diorshow and many other high street brands!

I also like Garnier SPF 50 and have ditched the ÂŁ22 bodyshop one I was using

Flockameanie · 14/01/2022 22:59

Aveeno hand lotion. Unlike most, it doesn’t leave a horrible sticky or greasy residue. Far better than many more expensive brands I’ve tried.

Vicliz24 · 14/01/2022 23:05

Wilko Essence range . The skinny liner is fabulous and ditto the eyebrow mascara stuff .

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 15/01/2022 01:00

Few cheap things I buy over and over because they're excellent regardless of price!

Vitamin e mist from Superdrug - it's a mac fix plus dupe so use as a hydrating mist or spray over makeup and it makes any powdery bits vanish
Superdrug simply pure hydration serum - cheap and good for day or night
Essence lash princess mascara (I like the green tube)
Wet n wild mega glo highlight (blossom glow shade if you're pale) - no glitter, just glow
Boots your good skin range of cleansers
Not as cheap but bioderma shower oil so you can skip moisturising. Can use on your face, body and hair and I shave my legs with it
Elf bite size eyeshadows are really good
Elf mint primer is a dupe for milk hydrogrip
Creightons micellar conditioner - curly girl safe and excellent slip and about ÂŁ1.49

NotVeryChattySchoolMum · 15/01/2022 01:09

Garnier SPF Anti-Age or Sensitive Face Fluid
La Roche Posay Shaka Fluid SPF 50 (when on sale)

Hands down my favourites and I have tried quite a few high end SPF!

ItsSunnyOutside · 15/01/2022 11:21

The Ordinary serum 'The Buffet'
It's an all in one serum, costs around ÂŁ12, so whilst not super cheap, it is excellent value for money, considering all the goodness it has in it.

The Superdrug Vitamin E oil is also really good. I mix with my moisturiser a few times a week.

Essence Lash Princess mascara is fantastic. I bought it after seeing a few beauty bloggers raving about it. It was ÂŁ4 on Amazon and it is honestly better then most of the more expensive mascaras I've tried over the years.

Collection 2000 liquid eyeliner. Hands down, the best eye liner I've ever used. Never smudges, doesn't sting my eyes, stays put all day and costs less then ÂŁ4.

Also rate most of the Elf cosmetics range, inc the putty primer a pp mentioned. It is brilliant. The cream bronzer is great too. It really feels like high end make up but no where near the price.

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/01/2022 11:27

The Ordinary has been great for me - I have dry skin and rosacea. I spent much more on some serum and moisturiser from Revolution which did nothing for me at all.
