Dubarry Style Boots

Living in the countryside and hours long walks through forests and fields I'm looking for a robust, waterproof pair of brown leather boot recommendations please. I spend my life in wellies and am looking for something smarter. I have heard about Dubarry boots and researched online. These are the style I am looking for and was wondering if there are any other similar that you'd recommend. I love the Duchess of Cambridge's taggle boots she's sported for decades. Thank you

Buy the Dubarrys they’re obviously pricey but they last ages (even better if you look after them well) and they’re so comfy. Any imitation ones never last!

pastypirate · 08/01/2022 18:49

I've bought some horse ware brand yard boots they are a revelation - waterproof and cosy and I can stand in a river in them!

The ones the Duchess of Cambridge wears are by Penelope Chilvers. I’ve got a pair of those and also have Dubarry boots. I’d say that the Dubarry boots are better for walking through muddy fields and forests. The Chilvers boots have a zip, so you can’t wade through deep puddles.

Dubarry boots will last you years. They’re totally waterproof, keep you warm in winter and remarkably cool in summer. Cheaper look-alikes just don’t come close to being as good.

I've had Dubarrys in the past (lasted ages) but the 'build quality' now doesn't seem to be any different from Dublin boots which are half the price.

I to decide on the pull tie ones or the buckles. Thoughts? Thank you all for your advice x

Was going to suggest Trailback as I like the look of them bu would need a reliable review

Rydale and Moretto might be worth a look OP

Might have misspelt the names

Dublin river boots

Tuffa Suffolk boots are great.

Bareback are cheaper than Penelope Chivers , or search Spanish Riding boots.

I have ariat grasmere which are over 10 years old and still look fantastic. Like slippers from day 1 as well

I have Ariat Windermere, absolutely love them. Wore them straight out of the box and so comfortable.

I trashed them within 5 years using them for mucking out. I now have a pair of Aigle Parcours really warm and like walking on clouds.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 08/01/2022 21:19

Bearing in mind I bought them in 2009, occasionally show them a hosepipe/leather treatment and wade through mud and horse muck, they're not looking too bad! Still don't leak either

Ariat Grasmeres are excellent. I’ve stood in water bars soaking hay nets and got out with dry feet. Totally waterproof and last for years.

bouncydog · 08/01/2022 23:18

Water baths!

I've got ariat grassmere for winter still going strong after 12 years and a brown pair of ariat for summer.they're amazing and last forever.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 09/01/2022 17:42

Ariat, cheaper than Dubarry, great styles, designed for work and much better quality than Dublin/Rydale etc. Goretex lined so properly waterproof and have a supportive cushioned footbed.

I have far too many pairs of different types, I was out in a pair of walking boot style ones today but I have Grasmere country boots too, and am currently hankering after Conistons.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 09/01/2022 17:45

Do not buy Dublin River boots. They are crap. Mine fell apart after about 10 days worth of hanging around marquees at country shows, I couldn't return them though because I had actually had them quite a while, I kept them specifically to look respectable at these events so didn't wear them much.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 09/01/2022 17:47

I have just bought Bareback and very impressed with them so far. I don't ride or do any farm work but waterproof boots with a good sole are very important to me!

I read the Dublin reviews and although cheaper the reviews aren't great. What style or ariat do you have? The side lace up ones are very tempting. Also, how do they size? I see hey do wide calf. I'm a size 12. In a trainer I take a 6.5 but in a walking boot I take a 7. Thank you for taking the time to help x

Ariat Grasmere are amazing. I love mine. I'd also recommend Dublin River boots. I had some that lasted for years, waded through mud, stamped on by horses etc.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 10/01/2022 08:56

The country boots I have are the Grasmere, that's the ones with the side laces. They are very forgiving for a wide calf, they are especially good if your calf is curvy rather than tree trunky because you can vary the fit with the laces.

My sister has the Windermere which is a traditional pull on design. They are cheaper but great quality although better for short people as they aren't very long.

I would go for the same size as your walking boots. They don't size particularly large or small but they are quite tough leather and you need space to get your feet in and out.

I love ariat boots, as well as the Grasmeres I have six other pairs 😳

Thank you for you for the advice. I'm 5 ft 9 so the lace up sound perfect. I appreciate you taking the time x
