A la Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Homer Simpson...

What would yours be if you had to do this?

I never ever wear work clothes at the weekend or on holiday if it can be helped. There’s a clear distinction.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 08/01/2022 09:32

Yep I have one. Hush harems, a plain vest top and a chunky cardigan over the top.

LadyEloise1 · 08/01/2022 09:40

@solania
Where do you get your dresses from ?

Exhausteddog · 08/01/2022 09:46

I sorted out my wardrobe over Christmas and decided I had too many grey jumpers/hoodies. I've only got 12 now - they are all different though!

Christmaseveagonyaunt · 08/01/2022 10:37

@solania

I don’t have a uniform as such, but for work I wear one of a variety of dresses from the same company, with brightly coloured tights and a matching bright cardigan. It's sort of a uniform!
Collectif by any chance?
EssexLioness · 08/01/2022 11:18

@Christmaseveagonyaunt, interesting! I assumed Poppy. I have a couple of lovely dresses from Collectif

AgathaMystery · 08/01/2022 11:22

I have several different jobs so have invested in ‘smart scrubs’ for one job, I have an actual
Uniform for another and then I have what my friend calls my ‘civilian uniform’ which is 3 black dresses from GAP (identical) that I accessorise differently.

For socialising etc I wear whatever I want but for work it’s just the above. I never think about what I’m going to wear.

This thread is fascinating!

I couldn't do this, I love shopping and looking for different styles, and spending hours playing on the Stylebook app putting different outfits together!

I get how easy it must make life though.

Floisme · 08/01/2022 12:47

For the last few years I've had a bit of a summer uniform of loose fitting trousers with a silk or linen shirt. For reasons of vanity, health and comfort I prefer to be covered up, so I struggle to find clothes that work for me in warm weather. The rest of the year I ring the changes a lot more.

MeMumI · 08/01/2022 13:02

College lecturer here with zero interest in clothes...

So for me, I own 6 pairs of the same non denim jeans (black or dark navy), plus a few other pairs of plain black trousers.

I pair that up every day with a tunic style top or long chiffon style blouse. Varying dark patterns, never light or white.

If it's cold I add a thick black cardigan, if it's summer it's a thin black cardigan.

Wear the same in and outside of work. All my tops go with almost all my trousers, so I just put on my jeans, grab a top and go.

Love it!

DD and I drive past a school teacher fitting your description every morning. We love guessing what colour ‘bright tights lady’ will be wearing each day!

Not being rude but if you're young, have a good figure, then this is of course fun...but if you're not young or don't have the ideal figure, then it's really hard to find things that look good. So when you do, you recreate that in slight variations.
LumosSolem · 08/01/2022 13:27

I don't think it's an age thing @FortunesFave- maybe it's easier with the kind of figure that looks good in a range of styles but that's not limited to the young. My mum is in her 60s and has a great figure.

Yes I meant age OR figure ....the thing is that for a lot of women, post 50, their figure doesn't stay great. That's when you tend to stick with limited looks because they work. I'm almost 50 and used to play around with styles but my body, while not bad at all, definitely has it's limitations as to what goes on show and what doesn't.
Jabbawasarollingstone · 08/01/2022 14:06

I have to wear an actual uniform but my employing manager can wear what she likes as long as it's smart. She has a fine collection of silk scarves, and ties them in a way that is trés chic, a feat I have never been able to master.

StCharlotte · 08/01/2022 14:13

@ffscovid

I used to do this with my colleagues in my first 'proper' job. It was an office (admin) role and we all worked on the same team doing a specific role. We all bought the same blouses from M&S to wear with black trousers (and a black cardi in winter). The blouse came in three different colours in the same style / design: mainly white with coloured pinstripes. We'd all wear the blue one on Mondays and Thursdays, the pink one on Tuesdays and Fridays and the green one on Wednesdays Smile. This was in the 1990s and it made getting ready for work easy!
My old firm tried this with our team of receptionists. Bought them all navy blue suits from M&S with shorter skirt, longer skirt and trousers. They also bought them all a set of five different blouses. Trouble is they never told them to wear the same blouses on the same day so it just looked like they borrowed each other's tops all the time Grin
itsgettingweird · 08/01/2022 17:04

With regards keeping warm.

In winter I wear thermal socks and boots and polo neck wool jumpers.

Spring/autumn cotton or light knit jumpers, ankle boots or loafers.

Summer I wear tailored shorts in the 2 weeks it's sunny otherwise I just wear light cardigan for travelling to and from work

Itsnotdeep · 08/01/2022 17:06
@Itsnotdeep here are some questions to get you started…

These are the central questions…
What is absolutely your favourite thing to wear at the moment? And what is the thing you wear most often? What has proved really good value per wear/worn well?/What would you buy again?/What suits your lifestyle?

Then once you’ve decided on one farmer that meets all of some of the above questions then you can work outwards with these supplementary questions…

Are these things similar to other things you have worn frequently/enjoyed wearing in the past?

What are your favourite colours/colours which suit you best?

What washes well/easily?

Is there anything currently en vogue you’ve seen and would like to try? What would it go with in your existing wardrobe that falls into the favourite/frequent/wears well category?

What are your favourite fabrics/textures?
Thank you! I'm tempted to do this. At the moment I'm mostly wearing lounge trousers and cashmere jumpers, but they're all different (although varying shades of the same colours). I also have a large number of pairs of black jeans. But I do have too many clothes and am sometimes overwhelmed with choice and end up looking a bit rubbish or just reach for the same items over and over again. . I think it sounds appealing not to think about clothes at all. I will try one outfit in February/March I think for spring. Just one outift x 5.

ufucoffee · 08/01/2022 21:51

I wear a uniform of sorts, in summer it's black wide leg linen trousers with a black relaxed t shirt. In winter it's black trousers with a black sweatshirt or black jumper. Occasionally I branch out into colour and denim but not for long.
