A la Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Homer Simpson...

What would yours be if you had to do this?

I used to do this with my colleagues in my first 'proper' job. It was an office (admin) role and we all worked on the same team doing a specific role. We all bought the same blouses from M&S to wear with black trousers (and a black cardi in winter). The blouse came in three different colours in the same style / design: mainly white with coloured pinstripes. We'd all wear the blue one on Mondays and Thursdays, the pink one on Tuesdays and Fridays and the green one on Wednesdays Smile. This was in the 1990s and it made getting ready for work easy!

Thoosa · 07/01/2022 21:58

Then once you’ve decided on one farmer that meets all of some of the above questions then you can work outwards with these supplementary questions…

I know it was a typo, but that made me laugh. Grins

EssexLioness · 07/01/2022 22:02

I sort of do this. I have a capsule wardrobe in limited colours, which really suit me and flattering silhouettes. Everything goes well with each other.
Then I have a stricter ‘uniform’ for at home eg lounging and working from home, walking the dog etc. I have 3 sets of this uniform which I wear on rotation. They have to be comfy, and decent enough that I could pop to the shops/ answer the door if I needed to. For me, this is loose, harem style trousers, fitted t shirt and I also have a couple of jumpers I can throw on top if I get chilly.

JeSuis · 07/01/2022 22:04

Yes @Houseplantmad. I'm always bloody cold! But I think with my proposed Steve Jobs uniform, I'd have a properly warm, polo neck, chunky jumper and then lighter versions for warmer months. Go totally crazy and take the jumper off in summer.

This is all completely hypothetical you understand, but maybe I'd do it.

I actually wear a work imposed (not self imposed) uniform at work anyway though, so maybe it wouldn't make an enormous difference to my life.

@Thoosa I am watching a comedy about farmers at the moment

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/01/2022 22:13

Elizabeth Holmes, the silicon valley fraudster, based her look on Steve Jobs. So beware the lure of the black polo neck. You'll end up in the clink!

JeSuis · 07/01/2022 22:17

Very nice @MaybeHeIsMyCat!

Ha! I did come across Elizabeth Holmes when I was googling the idea. Yikes. No black polo necks then...and also no defrauding people with my blood testing equipment or whatever it was.

I do this. My work wardrobe consists of only black, grey and navy items. I buy multiples, of different colours if they're available, otherwise same colour (I'm v short, and if things go really well, I tend to buy multiples just so I have nicely fitting clothes).
I have a very narrow palette for my home clothes too.

Ah that explains it. Smile

DaisyWaldron · 07/01/2022 22:52

@Houseplantmad

This is really interesting but what about keeping warm?
Layering, and the right sort of fabrics.

So on cold days I wear an M&S longline thermal top under a Merino wool dress with wool lights, a warm cardigan and a scarf. On warmer days, I would wear the dress with cooler opaque tights, without the other layers. In hot weather, I switch to a short-sleeved dress with bare legs (home) or skin-toned tights (work).

I also have an exercise/Loungewear/pyjama uniform with harem pants, and the same shape of jeans in black and blue which I wear with men's T-shirts with the neckline and sleeves cut.

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 07/01/2022 22:58

My winter uniform is skirt, shirt or polo neck, blazers black tights and boots. Summer I mix it up a bit - I might wear a trouser or an interesting shoe.

I don't think anyone really cares what anyone else wears but I work in uniformed services so some people I have only ever seen in one outfit.

TheChosenTwo · 07/01/2022 23:00

I thought many people would probably do something like this! I know I do.
For work I tend to wear a navy dress, tights and boots. Cardigan/blazer over the top. I have about 10 different navy dresses from midi length to short, skater to button down, collars to v necks, but so easy to just get one out and fling it on without any thought in the mornings.
I do branch out and go for something different sometimes for work but generally it’s easy and requires zero input on my part!
At home i wear a lot of leggings and jumpers but I’m not averse to chucking on a navy dress from time to time there too!

Yes, me too! I am also a psychiatrist and agree that patients find the predictability reassuring. But for me it is a question of one less thing to think about.

It is black trousers - M and S or Boden
Grey jumper - at the moment I have one from John Lewis, one from Whistles and two from the White Company sale.
I then have a long grey White Company coatigan or a black WC coatigan for cold days
Black boots two pairs I rotate, both Geox. Summer I have some horribly uncomfortable silver and bronze Geox ballet flats but need to find something else
Plain t shirt under the jumper
Summer - I have a few tops to wear with the same black trousers and grey cardigan, from WC and Boden, black, green, white, grey.

Idontknowlondon · 07/01/2022 23:27
@FinallyHere, may I ask where you get your trousers please?
I was going to ask the same!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/01/2022 23:38

I kind of have this, but it is definitely not a capsule, more variations on a theme. I am pretty much WFH at the moment, but pre Christmas was in two half days.

Winter - high waisted tapered jeans or cords, slightly cropped boxy knit, preferably mohair or alpaca. Uniqlo heat-tech top underneath. DM boots or Adidas trainers. Birkenstock clogs with wool socks in the house.

Spring/early autumn - swap out the knit for a v-neck cardi with a t-shirt. I have the same Arket alpaca cardi in multiple colour ways.

Summer - midi dress with trainers, or t-shirt tucked into midi skirt. Sometimes the clogs if I am going for a sister-wife vibe.

Going out in winter I would either wear a mini-ish dress with opaque tights, or a leather mini-ish skirt with a lighter knit jumper.

Coatigans! These were my favourite Hush used to do them Do I need to look on eBay?
batmanladybird · 08/01/2022 00:18

I am so interested in this
I basically wear slogan sweatshirt and jeans in winter
V neck t shirt and jeans in summer

Cupcakesandjam · 08/01/2022 02:56

I wear something different everyday! Wfh but need to look sharp for calls.

I have outfits - running- dog walking- housework - gardening. These might be my uniforms?

But for everyday what or weekends might appear downstairs in heels and a dress then the next day silky cargo pants and t shirt then a maxi skirt etc. If I'm feeling down or poorly it's leggings and a long top in a dull colour.
Even my nightwear ranges from full length swishy red silk nightdress to flannel pj's, changes to how o feel.

I think about it when I go to sleep. I wear everything in my wardrobe and have had most of it for years- perhaps I like the memories as well as the clothes:)
I

Ohmycron · 08/01/2022 02:59

Gosh how weird this is.

I wear different every day. How boring to wear a uniform

Frollop · 08/01/2022 07:32

WFH.. leggings, top, hoody.
Days off at home..may sometimes wear a looser bottom feels a bit more comfier but top and hoody still apply.

In the summer I wear loose fitting tunic WFH.

I am a GP. I wear a lot colour - usually dresses( which hide a multitude of sins). Boots and ankle socks in winter. Summer birkies. I bought myself a pair of Trish Nuewl brogues which I love and are very trans- seasonal. I have hated wearing scrubs during lockdown - I felt a piece of myself was taken away. I think patients perception of what doctors wear would be a fascinating study !.

@ImmediatelyNo I want to see pictures of your looks too!

Ha - I do this. We can wear whatever we please at work but some items are more suitable than others.

Monday to Friday you will find me in a Breton top or checked shirt, with a pair of cropped wide leg jeans or cords. Doc boots. It’s practical and casual but I still feel stylish. Those are my work clothes. I rotate the same items all the time.

At the weekend I wear different things…skinnies or dresses. I’m often in outdoor gear too…owing to my hobbies.

I wear different stuff at the weekend.
