Hi lovely people. I am in my late 50s and have a massive problem with my upper eye lid .I look about 10 years older and will avoid any pics to be taken. I have really sagging eyelids. Any recommendations for surgery would be fantastic. I need honest comments!

Ohisitreally · 03/01/2022 23:32

Watching this space! I did see stick on ones that apparently work? Has anyone tried those?

Ohisitreally · 04/01/2022 00:05

@bloodyhoodedeyes...stick on what...sorry I genuinely don't understand your reply!

A friend of mine had this surgery.
I couldn't see any difference but she was very pleased with it.

notapizzaeater · 04/01/2022 00:19

Ooh, I've had a quick look at this. Some of the results are impressive

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 04/01/2022 00:34

I had an upper and lower blethoraplasty in July this year. I'm 49. I feel so much better about my eyes. They look amazing! I had hooded eyelids, particularly the right eye.
I went to Transform in Manchester. In and out in one day. Wore sunglasses for approx 10 days following the op and healed quickly and have had no problems.
I'm genuinely thrilled. Cost £6800.
I used to use eyelid stickers before I had my surgery. You can get them off amazon and ebay. Very effective! Need a bit of practise putting them on but they do work.
I treated myself to surgery because I was sick of using them. I genuinely feel great and regularly am told I look it! Wink

IamGusFring · 04/01/2022 01:01

A friend of mine had them done and I just thought she's not like herself anymore . I don't think it enhanced her . You can Have Botox on your forehead to raise your eyebrows which helps open your eyes too .

bloodyhoodedeyes · 04/01/2022 07:19

I think they are called eyelid stickers and they are small patches and you pop them on your eyelid and they help lift the lid.

I've seen them on my Instagram feed! Shows what I search 🤦‍♀️

MulticatHouse · 04/01/2022 07:27

I've been thinking about this too.

I had Fibroplast in October and while it wasn't too bad (I did a ton of research after reading horror stories) and I have seen an improvement, I would need two more and I can't be arsed to wait.

I'm not in UK and have found a good surgeon so I'm chewing it over.

tribpot · 04/01/2022 07:33

I've been thinking about this surgery as well, not for purely cosmetic reasons but because one of my eyelids now seems to sag to the point where I can feel it and it feels like it could intrude on my vision, but it doesn't seem to do it all the time.

The surgery does look quite terrifying, though - @cheeseandbiscuitsplease how long was your vision affected, could you see okay but just needed to protect your eyes from sunlight? (Surely in Manchester there is little risk of this anyway Grin )

My friend had it done on the NHS because she said it was affecting her eyesight.

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 04/01/2022 08:31

My eyesight wasn't affected at all. My eyeballs were a little yellow for a week but soon cleared. The worst part of the whole thing was the itching whilst I was healing but this was bearable and didn't last long.
I agree photos of the surgery look terrifying but it really wasn't! I cannot stress this enough. By day 3 you could start to see results.
I went on holiday 20 days later completely healed and feeling great.
If you look at pictures of eyelid surgery it does look painful and horrible but in my experience it was easy. I healed so quickly. Paracetamol for 2 days after the op then I genuinely didn't look back. Just got better every day. My eyes never closed, my vision wasn't affected.
I'm a teacher, I had this done at the start of the summer holidays.
I paid for mine as it was purely for vanity reasons!
It's fantastic to have eyelids again.

tribpot · 04/01/2022 08:42

Thanks @cheeseandbiscuitsplease that's good to know. And it's not done under a general anaesthetic, is it? nhs.uk says it can be done under either local or general, but I would assume local.

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 04/01/2022 18:48

I had a general anaesthetic. Nurses and surgeon at Transform were fantastic, brilliant aftercare. Treated by my own nurse whilst I was in the hospital 8am-3pm. Fantastic. Was worth every penny.

tulips27 · 04/01/2022 18:50

There was a thread like this before Christmas and someone posted some stunning results and they had been to I think it was Estonia? I will try and find it. I need this op too.

IamGusFring · 04/01/2022 20:28

Anyone willing to show pics?

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 04/01/2022 20:52

I'm trying to post pics but app won't let me - it says success! Then oops something went wrong??

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 04/01/2022 20:57

Genuinely tried several times to post 3 pics but no luck. Anybody any idea??

Hairyfriend · 04/01/2022 21:05

My mum (abroad) had laser eye surgery, meaning she no longer wore glasses. It then became apparent that she had very droopy eye lids. There, the surgery is partially funded, but I would assume only in the UK if its affecting your vision.

I helped her post op and for a few days her eyes were puffy, bruised and a little tender. Once fully recovered, she looked great and more awake. Most people didn't know what she'd had done and couldn't work it out, but commented she looked well and refreshed.

The stick on things people are referring to (if I'm correct?) are a thin, clear, plastic, sticker that sticks to the upper lid. I believe they're used mainly by people with Asian/almond shaped eyes to give the illusion of a more rounded eye, by lifting the upper lid slightly.

KatharinaRosalie · 04/01/2022 21:14

tulips might have been me. I had the surgery about 3 years ago, there are some photos on this thread (warning, also a bruised post surgery photo). Still very happy with the result. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3536542-Please-help-me-with-my-saggy-eyelids-Any-make-up-tips

Catch32 · 04/01/2022 21:40

@KatharinaRosalie thanks for sharing, yours looks fab!

I have looked into this in a Spire Clinic hospital in the South East. Cost would be I think £3.5k for upper lids only. Haven't had a consultation yet though, and wondering whether to wait a few years to let them get as saggy as they are going to before tightening up

havemybreakfastthen · 04/01/2022 21:47

I had upper and lower eyelids done.

Resulted in one eye looking great......and an ectropion on the other eye requiring three further surgeries to correct it.

Don't mean to put a downer on it but the reality is that there are risks involved.

tulips27 · 04/01/2022 22:59

@KatharinaRosalie that was it, yes! I must have been searching for threads before Christmas.

Mine actually feels uncomfortable, I can feel the skin resting on my eyelid and in a way that's worse than the look of it.

Northernlass99 · 05/01/2022 16:24

I have been planning on doing this for a while. My eyes are really ageing my face and one eyelid is resting on my eyelashes now. I will mention it to my optician next time I go. I have been for a consultation about fillers but I can't see the point if my eyelids are so saggy.

Some of the results look amazing, subtle but with a big impact. I heard a surgeon on a podcast saying basically everyone over 50 could benefit from this and it is fairly routine (but he would say that wouldn't he!). However I would like to be sure exactly how risky it is.

@havemybreakfastthen Just googled ectropion. That must have been uncomfortable. Was that from the lower lid surgery?
