Collagen supplement

Has anyone really done their research and able to tell me the best collagen supplement (in terms of value and absorption/conversion etc)?. I'm aware of many companies selling collagen sachets but wondering of the price is because of the branding rather than superiority?!

Aren't they all a bit of a con? It's just protein powder? I haven't seen anything that suggests they have added benefit

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2022 22:14

Cod science. The punchline being you’re better off eating the cod 😂

FortySeven · 03/01/2022 22:22

Useless and a con AFAIK. I bought a whole bottle and it made no discernible difference to me!

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 03/01/2022 22:32

I've spent a fortune on collagen and can't see any difference Hmm would be interested to hear if anyone has

Theblacksheepandme · 03/01/2022 22:39

It's been scientifically proven that taking collagen orally does not work.

TheBlueBear88 · 04/01/2022 00:08

Haa anyone tried reverse life collagen? Reviews on trust pilot and FB are great, but not sure if it's a placebo effect

I saw a study saying it did. Sponsored by a company that makes collagen supplements 😂😂😂

So, no bias there, none at all.

I have an Absolute Collagen subscription, I have been taking it since May and I have noticed a positive difference. They have pretty good reviews too. It tastes vile though tbh but I mix it with a smoothie

Journeynotdestination · 04/01/2022 21:58

I take collagen capsules from Amazon - they do definitely make my nails strong, can’t tell if anything else is affected. My hair definitely isn’t.

I took Absolute Collagen for 10 months and it made no difference at all.

Following, as my FB feed is full of Collagen adverts, I’m very tempted so interested to hear Mumsnet reviews.

GettingStuffed · 04/01/2022 22:23

Try using it topically, I use the collagen drops from Superdrug and they do make my skin look fuller.

SarahBellam · 04/01/2022 22:23

The gelatine in a bag of Haribos is pretty much the same thing.

Same! I tried the Boots tablets. They made my nails so strong, and they grew really fast. But everything skin and hair looked as old as ever.

I'm now trying the fizzy collagen tablets from a Holland and Barret, but they don't dissolve.

I use collagen powder from Amazon. Just dissolve it in my morning coffee. Studies have shown it improves skin elasticity and bone density. Ive noticed a definite difference in my hair and nails. My hairdresser commented on how much stronger and thicker my hair was. My cousins oncologist recommended she take it to strengthen her hair whilst having cold cap chemotherapy.

VanGoghsDog · 04/01/2022 23:54

I take it for joint pain (osteoarthritis), along with glucosamine sulfate, and it definitely makes a difference.
Not sure it really has any impact on hair, skin or nails though.

You make such a great point. People need to check where the studies are coming from. A lot come from companies trying to sell collagen or making it. I would question any doctor that states taking collagen actually works.

XiCi · 05/01/2022 11:09

@Theblacksheepandme can you please link to the research that has proven taking collagen has no benefit please

Theblacksheepandme · 05/01/2022 11:20

XiCi
I spent months googling stuff and didn't happen to save any links. You just have to do the research like I did and make your own mind up on whether you want to take it or not. There have also been doctors on ITV This Morning stating it doesn't work. I also asked my dermatologist and she said it doesn't work.

Thats handy Grin. I have done my own research and have found nothing proving that taking collagen has no benefits, quite the opposite in fact. You really shouldn't make statements like that when you can't back them up.

XiCi · 05/01/2022 11:30

In relation to what though? Did you ask your dermatologist if it improved bone density for instance?

Chocaholic9 · 05/01/2022 11:36

I use it for my joints and my gut. These have improved since I started taking it, but then again I've made a lot of changes so I can't say it was the only thing I changed.

Theblacksheepandme · 05/01/2022 11:38

XiCi
I'm not here for an argument. Glug as much collagen as you want. You dont appear to be attaching any links either. Just making random statements also. How about you attach all the links you have stating collagen works.

You really shouldn't make all those statements without backing them up. What studies are you talking about?
